Velvet Sky Interview: Shoots Hard On Internet Rumors, State Of The Knockouts Division
TNA Knockout Velvet Sky was interviewed by Zoo magazine. In the interview she talks about getting her start in Wrestling, the popularity of Impact Wrestling in the UK and the state of the Knockouts division in TNA:
On the popularity of TNA in the UK: The UK fans just dont get the same opportunity to see TNA live because we are based in the US. Our fans back home can see us at the drop of a dime and get so many chances through our events, autograph signings and meet and greet sessions. Its an exciting experience for me because I always look forward to being on the European tour and getting to perform for the UK fans. Ill hopefully get to do a little bit of sightseeing too.
Regarding the Current Direction Of the Knockouts Division: In my opinion I honestly think that despite the lingerie matches and bikini car washes we have the strongest group of women in the wrestling industry today. Every one of us have come from a wrestling background and spent a lot of years on the indy circuit where we worked for little money, and sometimes none at all. For me back then it sucked not to get paid, but it was more important to get my name out there in a positive way and working on the right shows to get recognised.
The pay didnt matter to me, it mattered to work as much as possible and the six years of hard work paid off when I signed with TNA. Ill never forget where I came from because the indy circuit is where I learned my trade. All the dues I and all the other Knockouts paid has made us that much stronger because we struggled so long trying to make it and now we have. The Knockouts is by far the best womens division in the industry today. The internet has changed the wrestling industry considerably.
On how the internet and social media has shaped the business: Aside from the positives from the likes of Twitter and Facebook, the internet in general has had quite a negative effect on the business. Some people report false information on professional wrestling and those in the industry, just so they can have a story. It was reported that the onscreen persona of Karen Jarrett and her negative dialogue of me was what TNA officials thought of me. That is complete and utter bullsh**t! It is just false. This is just a small example of how the internet can have a negative effect on wrestling and affect my character.
I laugh at it more than anything. Its just frustrating because I have worked so hard to try and keep a good name for myself in this business. Dont get me wrong as I said the likes of Twitter and Facebook have also had a positive effect because it has helped tremendously with fan interaction. Before social networking fans could only interact with us through autograph signings and events like that. But now with a click of a button fans can get in touch with us and thats a great thing for us too.

- Evan Bourne will be able to return to WWE TV on the March 19th RAW Supershow. Since Bourne is not going to be a major part of WrestleMania 28, he likely won't return until after that. It's still possible that Bourne may get a WrestleMania dark match spot but with his second suspension he has cost himself the two biggest paydays of the year - Royal Rumble and WrestleMania.
Mr. Anderson, who has not appeared for TNA Wrestling since the November 15, 2011 Impact Wrestling taping, is scheduled to return to the ring at this week's Impact Wrestling World Tour in Worcester, Plymouth and Lowell, Massachusetts. - WWE Champion CM Punk spoke with AZCentral.com this week to promote next week's RAW Supershow in Phoenix. Here are some highlights:
Q: Are American fans not respectful? (After commenting that Japan has respectful fans.)
A: It's just a lack of "excuse me" and "please" and "thank you." I'm a pretty approachable guy, but I've had my headphones taken off my head in the gym, people poking me in the back like I'm a farm animal. It's a part of the game.
Q: With so many young fans, you must find yourself being a role model.
A: Absolutely. I'm the straight-edge guy. I'm a damn good guy to look up to. But I approach it the way Charles Barkley approached it. I'm not a role model. Everybody should choose their own path in life. I don't get preachy with the straight-edge stuff.
Q: Do people put you on a pedestal because of it?
A: I find myself being a target as opposed to being put on a pedestal. I get criticized a lot. There are people who are skeptical about it or scared by it or intimidated by it.
Q: Do you mind that a personal choice like that has become part of your public persona?
A: No, because it's who I am. People say, "When did you decide to be straight edge?" I was born this way. It's nothing I really decided (pause) and, right now, while I'm talking, on the treadmill and doing an interview, there's a guy standing over here, taking pictures ... (He politely asks the guy to stop, which doesn't seem to go well). All right, and now he just flipped me off, and I'm the (expletive). See what I mean? (sighing) ... Anyway, I don't think I have a persona per se. I'm not trying to be something I'm not.
Q: What about acting? So many WWE people go into the movies.
A: That's not up to me, but it's nothing I'm actively pursuing. I never say never to anything, but it's nothing I'm looking to actively do.
- Big Show reportedly suffered a back injury at last night's SmackDown tapings in Las Vegas. No word yet on the severity of the injury but apparently he landed wrong and hurt his back in the dark main event against Daniel Bryan.
The January 16th episode of WWE's RAW Supershow scored a 3.0 cable rating with 4,279,000 viewers, up from last week. The first hour did a 3.0 rating while the second hour did a 3.03. The rating went up as hour two went on but viewership dropped by 62,000.
- Whether this is true or not, there was speculation among some of the WWE talents this week that Evan Bourne was trying to get himself fired after failing another Wellness test just weeks after he returned from the first suspension.
TV 10/55 Sports Anchor Kurt Semder visits TNA Impact Wrestling during their show at NYCB Theatre at Westbury on 1/6/12. Interviews with Velvet Sky and Crimson.
