Randy Orton Hypes His WM27 Match With CM Punk Posted by Dave Mitchell on 03/31/2011 at 11:21 AM
WWE RAW superstar Randy Orton spoke with Kevin Eck of The Baltimore Sun week to hype Sunday's WrestleMania pay-per-view. Here are some highlights of what Orton said about:
Is He Comfortable As a Babyface: "Absolutely not. Im definitely growing as a good guy, as a babyface. Ive got to walk a fine line, Kevin, because as a bad guy, as a heel, I go so comfortable in that role, I think I eventually earned the respect of the fans. And it wasnt some master plan to become a good guy one day. I was dead set on being a heel the rest of my career. I figured theres no way Ill ever be a good guy. But the fans, theyre powerful, and when they speak together like they did, I started getting positive reactions. Id be in the ring with a babyface as a heel, but theyd be chanting for me. Its just one of those things where I just had to make the switch. But I think where I succeeded this time, where I failed back in04 after I became the youngest champ in history and became babyface, I didnt change too much. I think thats very important. That respect I earned from the fans as a bad guy, I dont want to lose that. And if all of a sudden Im coming out and Im trying to be like John Cena, that typical white meat babyface, kissing babies, hugging grandmas, slapping high-five swith everybody in the front row, thats not going to work. If I come out pumping my fist and smiling, its going to make people want to barf. So I really had to walk that fine line and change, but just change enough to where it works for me and my character."
How He Feels Not Being In One Of The top Matches At WrestleMania: "Its a good question, but I believe in every Mania, every pay-per-view, Raw, Smackdown or live event Im in, my goal and I would hope that everyone elses goal on the roster would be to the steal the show, and the pressure is always there. Whether its a stage like WrestleMania or another pay-per-view or just TV or a live event, youve still got the same fans out there. The WWE Universe is watching and youve got to perform. Youve got to live up to the expectations that you have laid out. Me and CM Punk, were not fighting for a title, but if you look back, weve got a three-year story line in the making. I cost him the WWE championship back in 08 when I was returning from a collar bone injury just after the birth of my daughter. I remember it vividly. I punted him in the back of the head backstage on a day when he was champ and was going to defend the title at a pay-per-view. He wasnt able to even perform in the match because I kicked him in the head, cost him the title. If I was him I would have done the same thing. He came back at the Rumble, cost me the title, but as far as Im concerned, that made us even. Anything after that, Im sorry, Phil Brooks, CM Punk. Im going to destroy him April 3 at WrestleMania XXVII. Thats just how its going to go."
Wrestlers Having Tour Buses & How It Helps Their Marriages: "A lot of guys actually dont travel by tour bus ; theres five of us. I think to be able to be at a point in your career where youve earned it and you can afford it, I think anyone would be stupid not to do it. What the tour bus does for me my family coming with me, thats just the cherry on top I dont have to travel 200 and 300 miles a night driving till 3 or 4 a.m. looking for that Dennys thats open or that drive-thru at McDonalds and getting a couple chicken sandwiches and taking the bun off and shoving it down my throat. I got a kitchen, king-size bed, a couple TVs, a washer and dryer, a shower, a bathroom, deep sinks Im set. I can travel anywhere around the country, and I can get flat after a match. I think the biggest thing when it comes to injuries and stuff, travel has a big part in that. Because after a match, guys hit the road and theyre in a sitting position. Theyre not able to ice up or do whatever they have to do therapy-wise. Being in a car driving like that, its just not good on your back, and our backs take a lot of abuse with all the bumps we take in the ring. Our body in general takes a hell of a beating, and that bus allows me to recover thats the biggest thing right there. Its worth every penny because Im able to recover more than I would in a rental car. Waiting in lines, looking for hotels, reserving rental cars, just plugging in an address into your GPS and hoping that address eventually leads you to a gym and not some middle of the subdivision where the address was wrong. There are lots of things that go into that bus that make it worth its weight in gold, but the No. 1 thing for me is the recovery time that I get having the bus that I didnt have in the rental cars."
RAW Ratings Breakdown: Rock-Cena-Miz Draws Huge Posted by Dave Mitchell on 03/31/2011 at 11:13 AM
As previously reported, Monday's episode of WWE RAW drew a strong 3.84 cable rating with an average of 5.89 million viewers. This was the most viewers for RAW since the June 29th, 2009 episode.
Additionally the 4.77 final overrun segment was the highest rated quarter since June 22nd, 2009, the commercial-free RAW.
RAW's peak this week with 7.31 million viewers was the first segment on RAW to break 7 million in almost two years.
In a segment breakdown, Edge and Christian vs. Brodus Clay and Alberto Del Rio gained 3,000 viewers from the opener with CM Punk. The video for Triple H and Undertaker lost 73,000 viewers while Justin Gabriel vs. Santino Marella gained 283,000 viewers. The segment with Triple H, Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker gained 1,346,000 viewers, making the rating go from 3.5 to 4.5 in the Males 18-49 demographic and from 4.5 to 5.4 in the teenagers demo.
Jerry Lawler vs. Jack Swagger lost 1,449,000 viewers, making it one of the worst segments as far as losing viewers goes in years. The same thing happened with Sheamus and Daniel Bryan a few weeks ago - fans tune in to see a major angle, in this case the one with HHH-Taker-HBK, and then tune out once the major angle is over.
The match with Sheamus and Dolph Ziggler vs. Daniel Bryan and John Morrison lost 32,000 more viewers but the Road Warriors Hall of Fame video and the angle with Snooki, Layla, Michelle McCool and Trish Stratus at a bar gained 255,000 viewers. The final segment with The Rock, John Cena and The Miz gained 1,539,000 viewers, which is one of the biggest gains in several years.
Overall, a great showing by WWE and a sign of momentum headed into Sunday's WrestleMania 27 pay-per-view.

The Rock took part in an interview with MTV and had the following to say regarding his involvement:
"I'm going to take my fist and lay it across somebody's lips and take my boot which is a size 14, so it's a big boot and stick it straight up somebody's ass."
He also hints at closing the show:
"Like with any show, like with any movie, you want to make sure the final five, 10 minutes of the show are worth every penny."
RVD talks more about why he joined TNA Posted by Corbin Nordhoff on 03/30/2011 at 07:24 PM
In a recent interview conducted for The UK Sun, Rob Van Dam had the following to say about leaving WWE, working there, and joining TNA:
"When my contract ended with the WWE, TNA tried to get me straight away but I said no. Eric Bischoff called me, Dixie Carter called me, even Jason Hervey picked up the phone. But I said to myself that they were not serious because (Hulk) Hogan hadn't called yet ... Then he did, I was doing my radio show and Hogan called in. The guy spent a half hour explaining on the air why I should join him in TNA. That was what got me here. Hulk is the most recognized guy there is in the industry, I value his opinion and knew he was doing what he felt was best for us all when he brought guys like myself to TNA."

Reason for Match Change at WrestleMania 27 Posted by Steve Carrier on 03/29/2011 at 06:10 PM
WWE's creative team plugged Santino Marella and Vladimir Kozlov into the Eight Man Tag Team Match with The Corre at Wrestlemania XXVII after it was decided that Christian would be in Edge's corner when "The Rated-R Superstar" defends the World Heavyweight Championship against Alberto Del Rio. Christian and Kofi Kingston were originally pegged for the match.
It also said that Marella had "earned a spot on the card" based on his tenure with WWE. Management reportedly feels he "hits a home run" with whatever he is told to do on television and since he hadn't yet worked a WrestleMania match (WrestleMania XXV nonwithstanding), he was to be rewarded.
In regards to Kingston not being currently slotted for a match at the event, there has been talk in the last day of him facing Drew McIntyre.

World Wrestling Entertainment released Dave Finlay yesterday. He had been solely working as a producer since retiring from in-ring competition last year.
WWE Champion The Miz was booked to interrupt the national anthem during a live event in Champaign, Illinois on Friday. A number of representatives for the National Guard were in attendance (a major partner and sponsor for WWE) and they were not pleased with the anthem being used to garner heel heat.
Once key WWE officials were informed of the ordeal, a decision was made to terminate his contract, since he was the events top producer.
His release from the organization comes as a shock to numerous employees. Finlay is well liked and many people are hoping that it is a situation where he could be brought back in the future.
Finlay had been with the company since 2001 and was considered the top producer in the organization. Many credit him with orchestrating the womens division over the past decade.
- The Rock wrote the following on Twitter last night for John Cena: "John Cena - God himself can't save you from the ass kicking I will give you this Sunday at Wrestlemania. TEAM BRING IT."

Sabu Discusses WWE's ECW, What He's Doing Now Posted by Steve Carrier on 03/28/2011 at 05:55 PM
- ECW Original Sabu spoke with The Poughkeepsie Journal this weekend. Here are some highlights:
How much are you still wrestling nowadays and what have you been up to?
I still wrestle a couple of times a week. I go to Japan tomorrow actually. England in about a month. I was in Mexico a couple of months ago. Ive got a lot going on.
You still enjoy it? You still love getting in there?
Not as much as I used to. A couple of weeks ago, I wrestled in Indiana in front of about seven people. I swear to God. And there was no heat. I swear to God, it sucked.
What promotion are you wrestling for in Japan?
Its called Smash. The boss there and the top guy is Tajiri.
You had a WWE run that ended in May of 07 that might have surprised some people.
I dont think it surprised people. I think they were surprised it lasted that long.
What were your thoughts on that run and getting to run with a lot of the ECW guys and get back in the national spotlight?
It started out OK and then it turned sour. I dont know what to say without hurting somebodys feelings. They didnt want me to be me. They wanted me to be somebody else. I was already somebody for 20 years. The main thing for me, and the bait for me to stay as long as I did was they were supposed to put my uncle (The Sheik) in the Hall of Fame, which they did, and I wanted to do at least one WrestleMania, which I did.
Backstage Heat On Snooki & Michelle McCool Posted by Dave Mitchell on 03/28/2011 at 02:09 PM
According to a reliable WWE source, there is backstage heat on the celebrity-involvement of Snooki in the tag team match at Wrestlemania, and the heat is not directed solely at the Jersey Shore star.
We bust our asses 250 days a year on the road, one prominent RAW-brand superstar claimed, Snooki will cut right into everyones Wrestlemania paydays. And the whole show is built around Rock, who is not full time; Austin, from another era, too; Michael Cole, who doesnt go on the road; Lawler, who doesnt go on the road; Snooki, who is a three-shot appearance; and Michelle McCool, who is Undertakers wife and therefore doesnt even go on the road with Layla El, who has to represent LayCool all by herself while her partner gets preferential treatment because of the person she married!
No superstar we spoke with seems to mind Undertaker or Triple H getting top billing this Sunday since everybody acknowledges they've earned their rightful spots. However, many are unhappy with the preferential treatment McCool is afforded as well as the names previously mentioned collecting major paychecks for this years biggest show, and not helping the company on a daily basis.
Maria on Her Time with WWE, What She's Doing Now Posted by Steve Carrier on 03/28/2011 at 02:03 PM
- Former WWE Diva Maria Kanellis spoke with The Poughkeepsie Journal this weekend. Here are some highlights:
It seems like youre pretty busy, doing a lot of different stuff right now.
Yeah, I am. Im keeping busy. Its the first time in my life that Ive actually had time to myself to decide what I want to do next. I got into WWE when I was so young that I really hadnt experienced that much yet. Its the first time in my life that Im able to do what I want to do. Experiencing new things. I loved working for WWE. It was an incredible experience, but Im trying other stuff. Perfume. My new perfume line just came out (available here) online. You can find it online if you just look up Maria Kanellis Signature Perfume. Im doing short films for friends. Im doing a feature this summer. Its not a huge feature. Im writing two films. Its crazy, so busy.
Sounds like an exciting time. Like you said, trying to figure out what you want to do?
Who knows? I might end up doing some more wrestling. I dont know if I will or not. I miss it. I miss the crowds. I miss the people. I miss going out there and having that instant gratification. If you do an incredible move or something amazing happens in the ring, I miss that.
When you came up through the Diva Search, did you expect to be wrestling?
No. I loved Jonathan Coachman. I loved what he and The Rock were doing. When they asked me in the Diva Search what I wanted to do, I told Coach, I want to do what you do. I want to call you a popcorn fart just like The Rock did. They sent me to the next round. Thats what I thought I was going to do. Then, once you get in it, I want to do the physicality. I want to do all of that stuff. I just did.
Was that surprising to you? When did you realize, OK, Im a wrestler now and Im wrestling matches?
I never was. I never considered myself a full-time wrestler because I wasnt always doing matches. A lot of times, I would do one little thing here or there to make the heel be a heel. It wasnt like I was a full-time wrestler. A lot of times, I was the girlfriend, which is fine with me. I loved all aspects of it.
By: Greg Adkins March 28, 2011 CHICAGO Six days. One hundred forty-four hours. Eight thousand, six hundred, forty minutes. Any way you slice it, the time has come for scores to be settled, bodies to be battered and victories to live on in the annals of history when WWE rolls into Atlanta. With The Road to WrestleMania coming to an end, Superstars were savvy enough to lay their bodies on the line in The Windy City to give themselves any possible advantage heading into The Show of Shows.
John Cena, The Rock and WWE Champion The Miz scuffled The battle of words between John Cena, Dwayne The Rock Johnson and WWE Champion The Miz officially turned into a war. In the wake of insults hurled about by each of these three men, tensions finally came to a head. The Great One fended off an attack by The Cleveland Screamer and his lackey, Alex Riley. He then laid the Smackdown on both, tossing Riley from the ring and leveling Miz with The People's Elbow. While Rock relished the adulation, The Cenation Commander-in-Chief slipped into the ring and punished him with an Attitude Adjustment.
Lay-Cool confronted Snooki & Trish Stratus Since Snooki successfully navigated the world of Trish Stratus, it was only fair that the former Womens Champion get her Jersey Shore on. Stratus and the diminutive dynamo hung out at a bar in the Garden State. After the pair fended off a creepin male, they were confronted by two of their WrestleMania opponents, Layla & Michelle McCool. In the wake of some heated words, Lay-Cool found themselves summarily shown the door by bouncers. Ouch.

Jack Swagger def. Jerry Lawler by Disqualification After weeks of getting battered by Michael Coles trainer Jack Swagger, Jerry The King Lawler didnt miss the opportunity to punish the blond bully. As the bell sounded, Lawler grabbed a steel chair and retaliated against The All-American American, causing an instant loss by disqualification.

Shawn Michaels shared his thoughts on Triple H versus The Undertaker Welcome to the hot seat, Shawn Michaels. The Class of 2011 WWE Hall of Fame Inductee found himself caught between two iconic Superstars when he joined Triple H and The Undertaker in the ring to discuss their WrestleMania showdown.
Before putting HBK on the spot, however, The King of Kings explained that he will not be intimidated by The Phenom or allow his emotions to overtake him. For his part, The Undertaker interpreted The Games confidence as arrogance and vowed that it would prove to be his downfall.
As the two warring icons stood face-to-face, The Cerebral Assassin asked Michaels to explain why he will prevail in six days. After much deliberation, The Showstopper reluctantly left the ring. As he walked away, he admitted to his friend that he felt The Deadman could not be beaten at WrestleMania.

Outside the ring, however, the Mexican Aristocrat snapped a Cross Armbreaker on Captain Charisma. The World Heavyweight Champion then chased off his WrestleMania rival, but Del Rio snuck back down the entrance ramp and attacked Edge from behind.
Randy Orton confronted CM Punk Randy Orton appeared hungry for CM Punks head on a platter. And really, who could blame him? Last week, Punk terrorized Ortons wife on their tour bus in order to lure his WrestleMania opponent into perilous straits. When The Viper arrived to defend his wife, Punk hobbled him with a wrench to the knee.
Returning to his hometown, The Second City Savior boasted about the ambush and theorized that Orton had developed a false sense of security after defeating each of Punks New Nexus disciples. Having heard enough, WWEs Apex Predator confronted his tormentor. Amid the ensuing scuffle, Orton lined up to punt The Second City Savior in the skull. Unfortunately for him, though, his knee wouldnt allow it. Punk seized the opportunity and instead leveled Orton with a jaw-rattling GTS.

- Stan sent word that there was 32 minutes and 17 seconds of in-ring action on this past Friday's SmackDown, down from 34 minutes and 13 seconds on the previous week's show.
Orton thinks Cena will "own" The Rock Posted by Roscoe De Soto on 03/27/2011 at 01:50 PM
The following is an excerpt from a Randy Orton interview with ESPN.com:
Robinson: The Rock recently came back to WWE. What do you think of his return so far, and what can we expect to happen when he's actually live on Raw this Monday and he's finally inside the same ring as John Cena and The Miz?
Orton: That's an interesting topic. I know them both and I know Cena a lot better than I know The Rock, obviously, but I've been in the ring with both cutting promos and wrestling. I have to say, though, talking about the whole ring rust thing, John Cena has had about 2,000 matches in the last seven years. The Rock? A big, fat zero. So when it comes to ring rust, I don't care what type of athlete you are, and The Rock is obviously an athletic dude, but Cena has been in the ring. He's been at every show and in every show and making appearances and he has been on the road with the WWE over 300 days a year for the last seven years. The Rock? Virtually nonexistent. You see the interviews that The Rock does and he says that he doesn't want to be known as a wrestler. He doesn't want to be known as a sports entertainer or a performer with WWE or a WWE superstar. He wants to be known as an actor. Now all of a sudden he's back in our world telling the fans what they want to hear. He's telling them, "I promise that I will never go away again. I promise that I'm back for good and that I'm here to stay." He said that, what, six or seven weeks ago? Have we even seen him live since then? No. Via satellite. I think Cena will own The Rock. I think Cena is wittier and can go off the cuff. Cena writes his own stuff, while The Rock has stuff written for him. It just all comes down to who you are in the ring and what kind of performer you are in the ring, and I think Cena is 10 times the performer in the ring that The Rock is. This Monday in Chicago, he'll prove it.
