Nowadays

Digital information has no fixed material form, so we must rethink information beyond material constraints.

You can look at it from many points of view.

These days there are no shelves, the links alone are enough.

Together we can create more information than the experts and we organize information by ourselves.

We no longer just find information, together we can make it find us.

It’s an information explosion and the responsibility to harness create, critique, organize and understand is on all of us.

Semantic <  syntax

Semantic : the meaning behind what you said

The internet gave a voice to computers, so they can talk, but they can’t understand what they are actually saying. In other words, we can communicate.

You can think of the web as a huge document storage system. We have got the ability to search for information on the web.  Html translates the codes to an understandable language for computers.

Now what is the problem?

The problem is that a computer gets the syntax of everything but not the semantics. If could make our computers understand what we are  interested in, they could help us getting what we want. Nowadays we’ve already got two popular ways, called microformats and rdfa. So this semantic web stuff isn’t about something in the future, it’s about something that is happening on this particularly moment.
