Microsoft said Thursday it has "released to manufacturing" (RTM) the latest version of its enterprise endpoint security offering which, among other new and extended features, adds an updated anti-malware engine.
Now if Bing search results include a specific link that has also been "liked" by someone in a searcher's Facebook network the link will be highlighted as "Liked" within Bing." The integration aims to streamline enterprise security operations while cutting costs.
Bing also more quietly revealed that the Happy Island social game is now available on Bing Games, allowing users to play with their friends by connecting the game directly to their Facebook page. It allows customers to use their existing client management infrastructure to deploy and manage PC and server security, while providing improved visibility and control.
"Built on System Center Configuration Manager 2007, FEP converges desktop security and management to help simplify and improve endpoint protection, while reducing infrastructure costs," a Microsoft spokesperson said in an e-mail to InternetNews.com.

One of the coolest things about working in Microsoft Research is the opportunity to see what bright students can do with cutting-edge technology. In Project Hawaii, weve provided students with tools, services, and equipment for creating their own cloud-enabled mobile applications.
Project Hawaii is a perfect example. This project, which began in January 2010, offers students the opportunity to explore how the cloud can enhance our mobile devices, especially the increasingly ubiquitous smartphone.
The current Project Hawaii platform consists of a Windows Phone 7 smartphone and several cloud services, including Relay, Rendezvous, Optical Character Recognition, Speech to Text, and Windows Azure for computation and data storage.
Some 300 students at 21 universities (see the list of schools) participated in the project earlier this year, building approximately 80 cloud-enhanced apps for the Windows Phone 7. Then theres Flagged Down, an app that lets users search for and hail cabs in their vicinity.

Hrvoje Benko, researcher with the Adaptive Systems and Interaction group at Microsoft Research Redmond, has worked on both the Mouse 2.0 research and the Microsoft Touch Mouse product-development project. The gesture-recognition software is the brains behind all these interactions.
He recalls one of the key product decisions: selecting from five prototypes the one that would be the launching point for the new device. In the end. we selected the prototype using capacitive touch sensing to track the position of multiple fingers on its surface.

As mobile devices enjoy broader adoption by businesses and consumers (the projected tablet numbers for the next five years, as predicted by research firms like Gartner, are pretty insane), the cloud will likely assume greater importance as a means for porting user data from one gadget to another.
And competitive pressure from Google will ensure that Microsoft keeps pushing money toward its own cloud initiatives. But as the "all in" strategy takes yet another exm1pass 70-270 Questions and Training step, with Office 365 ramping toward release, I'm starting to wonder about Microsoft's strategy for making all this pay in a substantial way.
Nonetheless, it seems that lingering developer fears over Silverlight fading away - after some developers have invested time and resources in the platform - can be put on hold for the moment, with news of the Silverlight 5 beta (not to mention, Microsoft continuing to use it as a platform for Windows Phone).

Redmond is pouring hundreds of millions of dollars into supporting its Bing search engine, in exchange for incremental market-share gains (which add up, to be fair; if you add Bing.com's share with what the search engine earns from powering Yahoo's back-end search, Microsoft can claim close to 30 percent of the market, according to research firm comScore).
At the same time, Microsoft is also attempting to carve out a presence in the smartphone market with Windows Phone 7. Several rivals occupy that territory: Research In Motion, Apple, Google and (soon) Hewlett-Packard's re-launched Palm franchise.
Lastly, there's also the business cloud side of the exm1pass 70-576 exam equation. In addition, Smith accused Google of contractually blocking "leading Websites in Europe from distributing competing search boxes" and discriminating against competitors by raising the price for prominent placement in Google advertisements.
The European Commission, of course, spent years chasing Microsoft around the block over supposed anti-competitive practices related to Internet Explorer. Eventually, Redmond executives relented to releasing a "Web browser choice screen" that gave Windows users in the European Union a selection of browsers other than IE.
"We're not surprised that Microsoft has done this, since one of their subsidiaries was one of the original complainants," a Google spokesperson wrote in a March 31 e-mail to eWEEK. "For our part, we continue to discuss the case with the European Commission, and we're happy to explain to anyone how our business works."

In a five-count indictment handed down Wednesday in U.S. District Court, prosecutors accuse Peter Alfred-Adekeye of illegally accessing Cisco's computer system after he left the company in 2005. The judge, Ronald McKinnon, called Alfred-Adekeye's arrest "shocking" and ordered him released.
The grand jury indictment appears to follow related criminal charges that have been under seal in federal court since last year. Alfred-Adekeye, a citizen of Nigeria and England, formed a Palo Alto-based company called Multiven, which wound up embroiled for years in legal sparring with Cisco.
Alfred-Adekeye was detained by Canadian authorities, at the U.S. government's request, when he arrived in Vancouver, British Columbia, earlier this year to appear for proceedings related to lawsuits between Multiven and Cisco.
We expect conservative guidance of flat year-over-year 640-802 revenue growth in October given the tenuous macro backdrop and cautious tone offered by most networking vendors. These efforts, while deemed necessary by some analysts, are also seen as causing potential distractions that could hurt Cisco near-term, especially in the face of stiffer competition in its core markets.
