Hey, welcome back to my blog.

It has still the same subject, the 4 P’s of food. After pizza and pita, it’s time for pasta.
I know that pizza is also a kind of pasta but with the third P , I mean the other kinds.
The origin of pasta is Italy. It’s a famous image: Italian mothers who are making the homemade pasta with a family recipe. In real life, the most people don’t make it themselves. There are a lot of different brands of pasta, e.g. Soubry, Barilla, San Remo,…

When you think of pasta, a certain type will appear in your thoughts. But there are very different types. Each one with different shapes and sizes.
I can sum up thousand types of pasta.

    The most common ones are:

    • Spaghetti

    • Macaroni

    • Farfalle: little bow ties

    • Fusilli: corkscrew pasta, thick long spirals

    • Fettuccini

    • Linguine

    • Penne

    • Cannelloni

    • …

When you eat pasta, it’s too dry to eat without a good sauce with vegetables and meat or fish. Again there are a lot of sauces you can choose from. When you make a sauce you can throw everything in a pot and eat it with the pasta. Pasta are the potatoes of the Italian.
Some examples of famous sauces are bolognaise, pesto, curry,…

    See you next time!

Welcome back to my blog !

This is my third blog message of my life and today we’re talking about the second P: PITA.

Pita is a leavened flatbread. It is founded  in the Middle Eastern cuisine. But today you can find it everywhere. Most of the time, when you want to buy a pita, the maker has an Turkish nationality.
You have a lot of different varieties but when you buy a pita in Belgium you will have always the same choices.

Choices you have when you walk in a pita shop:
à you can choose two kinds of meat: kebab or chicken
à there are many forms you can choose from:
You have the pita bread, it’s an very typical bread and also the original.
You also have the dürüm, it’s a wrap with the meat you choose and vegetables.
When you don’t like the choices with the bread, you can also choose to have a plate with the meat, vegetables and French fries.

It doesn’t matter which kind of dish you choose, you have always the option which kind of vegetables you want, which size you want to take (small, medium or large) and a very important aspect of the taste is the kind of sauce you choose: ketchup, mayonnaise, …

When I go to a pita shop, I take almost every time the same choice: a small chicken plate with all the vegetables and mayonnaise.  I prefer not too much raw onions.

Thank you for reading my blog,

    See you next time,

    X

    Welcome back to my blog.

Like I mentioned in the previous blog message, I will write today about the first P: PIZZA. It is one of my favorites. If I could, I would eat it every day. You have so many different kinds of pizza, it tastes every time different but a little bit the same. Pizza is a part of the Italian pasta family.

But what is pizza?? What do you have to do when you want to make a pizza? Which are the different toppings? Do have different kinds of dough?

When you want to make a pizza, there are three important components: the dough, the tomato sauce and the toppings. You will start with making a dough. You have a lot of different kinds of dough. For example, when you go to the pizza hut, you can choose 4 kinds of dough: Classic, Pan, Cheesy crust, Super pan. The super pan dough is a new kind of dough. When you watch television this evening, you will certainly see the new commercial.

The second important component is the tomato sauce. Every pizza maker has his own special recipe and it’s always a secret. The tomato sauce makes or breaks the taste of the pizza.

The last important part of a pizza are the toppings. You have a lot of different toppings, actually you can throw everything on a pizza (well it has to be eatable). The most famous toppings are:

    • Pepperoni: a spicy sausage

    • Olives

    • Mushrooms

    • Cheese: mozzarella, plain cheese,…

    • Chicken

    • Beef: meatballs

    • Onions

    • Peppers

    • Extra tomato slices

    • Fish: anchovies, prawns,…

So today we discussed the first P, see you tomorrow to learn more about the second P: PITTA.

    X

Welcome to my first blog in my life. My name is Sofie De Waele and I’m a student Marketing Business at the Artevelde college Ghent. For my English course, I had to write a blog about something. I love food, I love my life in Ghent, so it was an easy choice.

This year is a big year for me. After one year going home every day after classes, I am now allowed to stay in Ghent and live there during the week. In the weekends, I have to go home again to West-Flanders. It was easy last year, everyday my mother made food for me. After a long day in Ghent, I knew that my food was warm and ready to eat when I came home. Now it is different. I have to buy and cook my own food but in Ghent, the temptations of the 4 P’s are too big to eat and cook healthy.

But what do I mean with the 4 P’s of Food?
The 4 P’s of Food are the 4 most common meals you find in Ghent. I will write a blog message of each kind of meal and my experiences when I eat it.
    The 4 P’s are:

Pizza                                 Pita                                    Pasta                               Potatoes (French Fries)

I’m really excited to try these 4 meals and write about my experiences. My next message on my blog will be about the first P : PIZZA !

I hope you will enjoy my blog!
    See you soon,

    X Sofie
