This is a place for all our friends and family to keep up to date on what we do as a family... to follow us on our vacations or to get updates on Kaya's figureskating or whatever we want to share.... So i suggest you sit back and enjoy the ride... LOL
for friends and family around the world So i created a blog : I guess i want to start writing about what we do as a family and then maybe this is the place where i can start writing my journals when we are on vacation.
That way everyone can read what we've been up to, and get ideas on what to do if they should go to the same place.
This blog will mostly be in English, since i have so many English speaking friends.

This and that...
Last week i tried uploading a new entry for the blog... and Firefox crashed on me... i didn't feel like trying to write it all down again... I will see if i can remember what i was writing and fill you in on the happenings here...
On June 24th, Kaya told me the teacher said they could bring board games or a Nintendo to school, since it was the last day and there were not going to be any classes... i told her she could take a board game, but under no circumstances was she taking her Nintendo to school. I told her it is way too expensive, and with all the games she has... (i know, she could leave most of the games at home), but the point was that i didn't want her to take it to school, cause i know the way the boys in her class act... and the risk of something happening to it, is very real.
She agrees with me, she says "mom, you're right, i'll just play with whatever boardgames the other kids will have with them, i don't want anything to happen to my Nintendo either" I told her i was proud of her for accepting what i said, told her that was good of her.
The next day, when i went to pick her up, i had to wait a bit for her as she was still finishing some chores... i was waiting for her with my friend Fatima and her daughter Dounya, who is Kaya's BFF. Fatima asked Dounya if she had a good day... and Dounya goes off : "it was not nice at all... we all agreed we wouldn't be bringing our Nintendo, so of course i didn't bring it and all the others did bring it... so i was left out all day" To which i replied : "not everyone brought it, Kaya left hers at home too" To my disbelief Dounya answered "no, Kaya did have hers"... and then she suddenly stopped, looking at me like she knew she said something she wasn't supposed to say...
I was furious !! Then Kaya came running to us, all smiles... and i asked her how long would she think i would confiscate her Nintendo this time... she simply said "sorry mom" I told her sorry wasn't going to cut it this time... and i told her to get going home... pronto !
I know... there wasn't any real harm done in the fact she took the Nintendo, nothing happened to it and she still had all the games she took... But the fact that she had totally agreed with me the day before, that she had told me she wasn't going to take it... and then behind my back she snuck it out of the house... That was the part that really got to me... i was soooo disappointed in her....
This happened only 6 weeks after she had lied to me about something else, and she was caught playing on the Nintendo in the middle of the night when a friend was staying over... she was then not allowed to use the Nintendo for 2 weeks... and now she pulled this one one me...
I took away her Nintendo for 4 weeks now... and she is now realising she won't get to take it to London either... since that is still in the 4 weeks period...
Then last week it was the very last day of school, and we went to school to pick up her report card and have a talk to her teacher... She has an outstanding report card, she was in the top three of her class and had 90,5%. So now my girl has officially graduated from elementary school... finishing 6th grade...
Kaya is spending most of her days at my parents now, since Geert and i are still working... we both have our last day on the 16th... and then the week after that we are going to London.
The weather here has been extremely hot for the past weeks and it looks like it is going to last a bit longer still... I am liking it and i am not liking it.... My hayfever is acting up terribly and i have had some nights i wasn't able to get much sleep cause of the heat... But right now, nights are cooler so we get to sleep better... hoping it stays that way.
That's all for now....

Almost there....
Kaya had her last day of exams today... also it is almost the end of the schoolyear.... And they celebrated that in the school chapel with a mass.... as a member of the parent comittee i was invited to join the celebration. It was a really fun and wonderful celebration, the children had prepared notes to read and it was all very much just great to be a part of it all.
After mass, the 6th graders were asked to stand up, the principal thanked them all for their efforts over the last years and specifically for the last 2 years as they have been helping out the younger ones with reading and other things. She wished them well on their journey to middle school... They are graduating from elementary school next tuesday and today they were honored by the rest of the school with a huge applause...
And to end the celebrations, everyone who has a birthday in June, July or August was called to the front, the kids sang happy birthday and we all got a little treat....
After that i didn't want to go home since i would have to return to the school within the hour to pick up Kaya, so i just stayed in town and enjoyed the good weather and went for a drink while i waited till it was time to go.
Kaya and i went home together and had lunch at McDonalds and then went groceryshopping.... She was happy that she no longer had any homework to do and that she could just relax and enjoy the sunny weather.
Tonight i have been browsing the websites of the museums in London, to check out their openingtimes and ticket prices. Turns out most of them are free of charge... good deal if you ask me ! 27 days to go... not that i'm counting... LOL... it's just sooo much fun to get organised and looking at the websites of where we want to go makes me wanna help time go by...

Feeling a bit under the weather...
Like the title of this post says it... i'm feeling a bit under the weather.... and the weather does have something to do with it.... it's been quite cold and windy the last few days...
It's like summer is never going to start... what happened to the sunny month of June like i always have known it... if we had to study the weather was gorgeous and warm.... Not now...
So i have been sniffing all weekend... and while Kaya was studying for her last 3 days of exams in school, just stayed put on the couch... and watched several movies with Kaya after she finished with the studying....
I sure hope the weather is going to improve the way i heard it on the news... it's supposed to get warmer during the coming week... Fingers crossed for that !!
Meanwhile, i'm also trying to get organised for our trip to London next month... the countdown is on... 30 days from now we will be leaving... We are all sooo looking forward to it... it's been way too long since we were last in London... almost 8 years !! Looking up what to do and what to visit... i always think of that as the best part of preparing for a trip... fun in advance !!
