This blog will be used by some of the students of the 5th form of KAM Koninklijk Atheneum Mortsel, who will post their weekly commentary on what they read in the papers.
Protesting workers barricaded the doors of the Acropolis so no tourists could enter the beautiful ancient site because they were protesting. The reason of these protests are the cuts in workers' salaries en trimming the pension so Greece could be able to pay its debts. Because the protesters blocked the ancient site many tourists couldn't enter and many of them were ofcourse slightly unhappy by this event.
Ofcourse these actions caused a lot of trouble when Athens riot police tried to control the situation by using teargas on those poor protesting workers. Visitors from many different places of the world couldn't do anything useful except taking pictures of the riots wich some of them actually did.
These kind of protests have happened before but usually lasted a few hours.
I think these kind of actions are pretty useless. They only make tourists from all over the world hate Athens because the people can't even go on vacation to Greece without coming across protesters who think there salaries will improve by doing things like this. It only causes more financial troubles.
Misión cumplida: Chilean miners' ordeal comes to an end
God helped them!
So,Finally the 33 Chilean miners who were trapped for almost 70 days , are rescued!
It must be absolutely awesome to see your wife and kids back after a long time in a dark and dirty mine.
Offcourse the world was watching this disaster. They have filmed the whole rescue operation.
And as you can see, mining is not the most safety job,Certainley not in chili I suppose...
Faith was their hope, (as the miners themselves said) and God had helped them.Quiet remarkable that if there's a really bad situation, people always need something to rely on , which is Faith.
I'm wondering if these people don't have any mental problems,It must be shokking to leave the world for 3 months. Isn't it?
but I'm afraid that after they have been to the hospital they'll come back to the mines, and will keep on working there. Not so fair if you ask me.
(I can't find the right place where I have to put my link ;) )
Best regards jens

teacher lured boys to her home for sex
I find it very bad news. This time its about a woman who abused boys. Most of the time its men who came in the news about abusing underage children . There is often much fuss about paedophilia, but now when a woman abused children they just pretend like it is nothing. She just only gets a bail on condition that she does not contact the victims. I find that a really mild punishment for her crimes and I think if a man would have done that he would immediately be imprisoned. The article also says that the teacher, Patel, worked in other schools, so maybe there are also victims and they are maybe just afraid to tell someone about it. But I hope the woman gets a heavier penalty, and that she doesnt made other victims in her previous school. The article talks also only about suspension and not about dismiss. I think that is very strange. If this woman will ever works again as a teacher, then the school will be losing many pupils who are going to that school because which parent want to send their children to a school where there works a teacher that has abused boys ? I suppose nobody wants that . I also hope that there will be aid for the victims because this crime has a bad influence on their self-confidence.

Student jumps to his death after roommate posts sex tape online
I think that this is really unbelievable! How can be someone so cruel and without feelings for another person?! Just because you're guy the wold begins to see you with different eyes. They treat you like something not normal. That's why I think when you're young you should really watch out when you choose your friends and roommates. You never know somebody for 100%. They always hide a part of their personality. And at times like this, they don't hesitate to stab you in your back! I think that the roommate has a very low personality. By posting that tape he proved it! I hope that he never will forget what he did and that every morning when he wakes up he thinks about it. About how he killed someone (wanted or unwanted) . After all he is responsible for the death of that student. And now the family of the student has to live without him. Imagine that someone kills himself at an age of 18! That's really something typical for the 21st century! These days everything is possible. And people aren't even ashamed of raping people mentally! As mother of the so called roommate I would be really ashamed of my child!
I'd lost my girl for 20 years...Then she served me coffee
The news is really a fairy tale. Just when Sara has given up hope to find her biological mother, she unexpected meets her real mother and serve her a coffee! Michelle Kass was looking to recruit new talent, and Julie visited her offices in central London. But while Julie hoped Michelle would improve her career, she had no idea the meeting would change her life in a completely different way. And ofcourse the meeting changed her life but in a very good way.
It is amazing that Sara after all these years has finally found her mother and that Julie now also have grandchildren! Julie even also get the book deal she always dreamed about.I think this doesn't happen every day and I think it's great news especially because Sara is not angry with Julie that she gave her daughter away for adoption and it is also a great story because they have now a real band with each other!

Roman helmet sold for £2m
The anonymous telephone bidder who bought it should be very
rich or a roman helmet lover, but I dont know why you would spent £ 2 million
pounds on an ancient roman helmet, I know its beautiful and all of that, but
still £ 2 million? Imagine what you can do with that? I wouldnt spent any
money on ancient stuff. Maybe the telephoner is trying to sell it again for
some more money.. which i highly doubt but if he or she succeeds in re-selling
he would be even richer! And i do feel sorry for the Tullie House museum who
tried everything to buy it, they kept on bidding untill £ 1.7 million even when
the estimated price was around £ 300.000. What I wouldve done was give the
helmet to the museum, maybe you dont get that much money, but I think a
beautifull archaeological piece like that belongs in a museum. But the finder
found a flaw in the law of archaeological finds, and send it straight to the
auction. What I think is sad to see... But still, the guy who found this is a happy man at the expense of the museum...
So the sludge reached the branch of the Danube, after killing 4 people and injuring 140 other people, and killing a mass of wildlife and destroying 3 to 4 completely. i myself am quite shocked by this disaster, more than I was with the BP spill, because this is some gruesome stuff the just flooded 4 villages. In another article I read a man saying that the sludge burnt his father 'to the bone'. These villages will be inhabitable for a really long time, not only because the houses have to be rebuilt and the sludge has to be removed, but also because you can't grow as much as a carrot for 5 to 10 years because the sludge damaged the soil pretty badly. Greenpeace even said it's on of the three biggest disasters in Europe for 20 or 30 years... And now even the prime minister gives up on the people whose houses were destroyed, which is the dirtiest thing he could ever do. How could you, after your your country is in one of the biggest ecological disasters of the last 30 years, which is affecting the rest of Europe aswell, give up on people who were so unlucky to have their house destroyed by a random metal factory? This really baffles my mind.

One in four students binge drinks: study
One in four students binge drinks : study
I've found this article on the web.
The article is about excessive alcohol usage.
Old people (and my mom) are probably very shocked by the fact that one in four students in the United States binge drinks. This is quite remarkable because in Belgium there were also a lot of studies about this subject, and conclusions were quite the same. We all know by now, that alcohol usage is really bad and you'll probably die very soon. But I think that they really exaggerate.
I'm not alcoholic, but if you're young it's not so uncommon to enjoy yourself with a couple of beers...
On the other hand I understand that it's very stupid to get wasted, get in your car and kill every innocent child on the street, while you are puking out of your car-window. Having a good time is important, trying new things is always fun ;) but don't lose your mind!
This afternoon I was doing some research on YouTube and I've found the best example of what's really, really, really... Wrong. And believe me, she is not drinking water.
Dying mother left poignant wishlist for husband and sons
This article is very touching! First of all I'm very sorry for the two boys and the father that are left behind. The two boys will just know their mother as a memory. That's really sad. But you can't choose your life yourself. That's something that even I know. On the other hand I think the father has a really strong character. To deal with your wife's death because of cancer is not easy especially not when you have two younger children. And the worst part of all is that the husband knew that his wife was going to die. So he and his wife stayed many nights up until late and talked about many things and also about the "to do list" for the two boys. The mother wanted her boys to grow up normally, when she was gone. So she decided together with her husband to make that list for the sake of her children. Now each time when they complete something from the list they think about their mother. Loosing someone is never easy but you must go on with your life and cherish the people that are in your heart. Even if that means that they are not any longer with us.
Sally Menke: the quiet heroine of the Quentin Tarantino success story
Terrible news to report. Last week Sally Menke's body was discovered in Beachwood Canyon near the Hollywood Hills. She was 56 years old. It may have been California's extreme heat on Monday when she went missing but
no details about how it actually happened. She had been hiking with her dog, a black labrador. The amazing film editor was best known for her work with Quentin Tarantino. Theyre great collaboration started with a phone-call when Wenke was standing in a phone booth where she was also hiking and so 20 years they worked together making amazing movies.
She edited all of his feature films. So you can thank her in part for the wondrous control of Tarantino's very distinctive pacing, intricate performance shaping freeze framing and not least of all those incredibly precise long-form action sequences in Kill Bill Vol 1 and Kill Bill Vol 2.
So finally, Google StreetView expands again. This time in Brazil, Ireland and Antarctica. Surprisingly enough, I'm not a huge fan of GoogleStreetview (Tech-nerd as I am). I think it's a bit unnessecary, cause let's be honest: to know where a certain place is, you don't need to see what it looks like from a humans perspective. You need a map, Sattelite if you're really want it, but no human's perspective. It's also a privacy-issue: once Google StreetView hits the entire world, you can pretty much be followed around where ever you go. I wouldn't like that. But beside that, there's another thing that bothers me a bit aswell. Why in the hell, would you create 'StreetView' in a country with barely any streets? I think the argument that Ed Parsons brings up is kind of weak. If you want to see how pinguins look like in Antarctica, you can always use Google and look up Pinguins... Hell you'll even be using another feature out of the Google co. array! But obviously , there's some positive sides the the whole Streetview project. If you can see from human's perspective, you can see monuments without having to go out of your house, not even your seat! And if you're planning to make a citytrip, you can check where it's crowded and where it's not , check out Hotels and see if the advertisement online is what it says it is. So Google StreetView may have its upsides and downsides, it's a feature that's going to be used alot. The only question is if it's actually going to be up worldwide eventually.

Modern-day slavery: horrific conditions on board ships catching fish for Europe
I am really shocked by reading this. I knew that there isnt many place on a boat and that the food is most of all very bad but I didnt know that the men were living in such bad conditions. They were also not paid with money but in boxes of trash fish and I think that is really a shame! Maybe there's a solution: stop eating fish so that there could not happened things like this. But then is the question: what about the legal fishermen? It is very shocking news because we cant do anything about it! First of all it happens on the sea and second : they are often backed by shell companies, which makes their real owners hard to trace and law enforcement extremely difficult! So maybe the next time when we buy fish, we first must check where it comes from!
Australian woman dies in Malaysian Base jump accident
Someone who dies when doing the thing they love is sad to see. Some people
say its better to die doing what you love, then die alone or ill. But I dont
think that jumping from a building and not getting your parachute open is the
way you want to die. I cant think of a more horrible ending than smashing on
the ground with 100 miles an hour. Were talking about a women with a lot of
experience, it was her third jump of the day. The management said they took all
the safety measures they had to, so it probably is her own fault. Maybe she got
a bit careless with her equipment because she was over excited or too sure of
herself. Anyway, its a tragedy.
