I found a new way to get rid of those chewy threads in the beans: don't waste any more time trying to peel those carefully (I'm rubbish at that so the peeling takes ages). Use a peeler to get rid of the bit of bean witht he thread in. I was not certain which side this was, but as I already had neglected this before (and had a dnice, but rather laborious meal picking the threads out while eating) so i just did this to both sides. Thread problem solved.
A handful of beans turned out to be a lot of beans, so maybe half a handful of beans will do. They do not really shrink during cooking so you can have a pretty good guess at what will be too much. Except if you have my problem and don't dare to tell the lady on the market that that is more beans than you actually need.
But on the whole: nice, very tasty, and probably quite healthy (because of the overload of vegetables)
Just to add a little extra another thing I prepared at the same time.
Take 2-3 patatoes and boil them. Cut a red pepper in four and place under the grill with the skin towards the grill. Let the skin burn so it can be peeled and then cut the pepper parts in slices. Half a clove of garlic and rub the pan with it. Poor some oliveoil (a couple of soupspoons) in the pan and add a quarter of a sliced (can be julienne, can be bigger slices) onion to it. Allow the onion to become golden brown and then add the pepper. Bake for 5-10 minutes and then add the patatoes. Season with salt and peper, if necessary add some more oliveoil. You can eat it hot or cold as a salad.
Because it would be a very sad affair if i could not even keep this blog going for more than one week: my first recipe.
Tomorrow morning I'll pass by the market to buy the ingredients and i'll start cooking after work.
You will have to admit it sounds good doesn't it? It is not vegetarian, but you can easily make it so by leaving out the ham and replacing it with the vegetarian equivalent, or nuts or nothing at all.
ingredients needed for one: 100gr macaroni a handful green beans (on the picture i can see somthing called romano beans, but I suppose regular green beans will do as well) a handfull little peas a slice of raw ham 0.5 dl cream (milk will do as well, but maybe best to add soem amizena to help it thicken) 25gr fontina (cheese with a soft neutral taste) 15gr grated parmesan (no substitutes there, it is just too good, the best one is parmigiano di regiano, the older the better) pepper and salt freshly ground
what to do: 1. preheat the oven on 180°C 2. Clean the beans. and boil them for about 5 minutes together with the peas in salted water. Scare them in cold water and leave them leaking. 3. Boil the macaroni al dente 4. Boil the cream (or the milk with a little maizena). Add the cheese and stir until the cheese melted. Spice according to taste. 5. Mix macaroni, vegetables, ham and cheese sauce. Put in the oven for 20 minutes after adding the parmesan.
