The first of November is a special day, All Saints’ Day. It’s a day when we remember the death.

Everybody knows someone who passed away. We try to honour them, especially the 1st of November.

This year Studio Brussels had a great idea: a whole weekend you could hear great music from artists who passed away.  I could see no harm in that?

A whole weekend you might think that Studio Brussels was the best Belgian radio station. For example, Queen had some airplay, Amy Winehouse had some airplay, and you also heard Elvis Presley as well.

Sometimes you heard an artist, when you didn’t know he passed away. So you might say that it was a little bit educational as well J

    No problem at this point.

So what is this blog about? Do you really want to know what my problem is?

Do you know how they named this promotion stunt? Death is Music (they have a radio show named Life is Music, so it was meant as a parody).

    Death is Music …

    What’s in a name?

In my opinion Death is Music is a terrible name that offends many people.

When I heard about the concept, I was delighted: finally some good music.

But please, give the name some thought. That’s a good example of bad imaging.

Paul Van Haver, known as Stromae, is a singer songwriter hailing from Brussels (BE). He has made already two studio albums, Cheese and Racine Carrée and won a lot of prizes such as “Best Belgian artist”,  “Best album of the year” and “Best live performance”.

The Belgian star conquered his country quickly; conquering the rest of Europe was just a matter of time.

Past year, he made his debut in the United States.  When some American artists saw him perform, they were absolutely stunned.  For example: Lorde wanted to work with Stromae after she saw his performance. Sam Smith, Diplo, Kanye West are also big fans.

A couple of days ago, Stromae made a big step in his career. He contributed for the soundtrack of the newest movie ‘The Hunger Games’ together with Kanye West, CHVRCHES, Chemical Brothers and many more …

Normally you need a publisher to get your artist’s music in a movie or a TV show, but that’s not what happened with Stromae …

Because he made an unbelievable impression in the USA, everyone wants to work with him and he gets offers from artists such as contributing with a song for the new “The Hunger Games” movie.

Stromae is the best example that you don’t have to be from the UK or the USA to have a worldwide success. If the talent is there, the world is your playground.
