De Franse actrice Annie Girardot is maandag op 79-jarige leeftijd overleden. Ze lag al een tijdje in het Parijse ziekenhuis Lariboisière en leed al jaren aan de ziekte van Alzheimer.
Girardot, actrice van de Comédie Francaise, schitterde in Franse films naast, onder anderen, Alain Delon ('Le Gitan', 'Traitement de choc'), Philippe Noiret ('La Veille Fille', 'Tendre poulet') en Lino Ventura ('La Gifle').
Ze maakte ook carrière in Italiaanse films, onder andere van Marco Ferreri ('Dillinger è morto') en Luigi Comencini ('L'Ingorgo'). In 1979 speelde zij zelfs de hoofdrol in een Belgische film, naast en tegenover Ann Petersen in 'Jambon d'Ardenne' van Benoit Lamy.
Zilveren Leeuw
Haar doorbraak kwam er met haar rol als prostituee in 'Rocco e i suoi Fratelli' (1960) van Luchino Visconti. In die film werd zij door haar lover, Renato Salvatori, met dertien messteken gedood. In het echte leven werd Salvatori jarenlang haar echtgenoot.
Voor haar prestatie in 'Three Rooms in Manhattan' van Marcel Carné werd Girardot in 1965 bekroond met de Zilveren Leeuw voor beste actrice. Lof én bekendheid verwierf zij daarna in het sensuele romantische drama 'Storia di una Donna' (1970) en het op ware feiten gebaseerde 'Mourir d'aimer', over een lerares die een relatie met een student begint, in de gevangenis belandt en uit wanhoop zelfmoord pleegt.
De voorbije jaren werd haar filmcarrière nieuw leven ingeblazen door de eigenzinnige Oostenrijkse regisseur Michael Haneke. Zo speelde zij belangrijke nevenrollen in zowel 'La Pianiste' als 'Caché'.
