Hey

My last post on this blog. Yesterday my fishing quest has ended. At the beginning of this week I asked myself the question if fishing is fun and what my friends liked so much about it. Well, I think I am finally able to answer that question.

After this week I think fishing is a really fun hobby. But only if you are really patient and aren’t really busy. It’s also a great way to get relaxed. Personally I won’t be going fishing with my friends every day anymore but from time to time I will be joining them when they are going to. To me it’s not an everyday hobby.

I had a great time going fishing with my friends but after a while it gets a bit boring and it takes a lot of your free time. Free time, I would rather spend on something else.

Since this is my last post I have to make and I probably won’t go fishing very soon, I think I will end this blog for ever. But I will still keep this blog online so people will still be able to read it. I hope you liked reading my blog and my experience with fishing.

Hey, You know what? I have actually been looking forward to today. I went fishing in Erpe-mere. Why was I looking forward to it so much? Because Steenberg is well known for its population of huge carp and catfish. And above all my friends said the fish over there are very easy to catch. So that means I will surely catch a lot.

My friends live much closer to Steenberg then me so when I arrived they were already fishing. I set up my camping chair next to them, hooked my bait and casted my line. I didn’t have to wait really long before I caught a first fish. In total I stayed at Steenberg for three hours and caught 4 fish. You can see a picture of the biggest one we caught today on the left.

While fishing I really enjoyed just sitting at Steenberg. It’s a really beautiful pond surrounded by a small forest with a lot of mountain bike routes. You can see a picture of the pond on the left.

Thus my last goal was reached. I caught at least one fish at Steenberg. My fishing adventure has come to an end. My blog entry of tomorrow will be answering the question ‘is fishing fun?’ so stay tuned.

Hello guys, 

Here’s another post in my blog. 

I didn't want to wake up really early today so instead of fishing at dawn we went in the evening. Next on my list of goals was catching a fish on the Dender, so we went to the Dender just outside Geraardsbergen. We installed ourselves next to a bridge on the side of the river. The baiting of the hook has become routine now. But this time because we are fishing on a river we have to weight our line with some tin. This will avoid the line from drifting with the stream.  

One hour later, we still didn't catch anything. My friends think it's because there is too much noise from the cars driving over the bridge. So we went a little bit further away from it and surprisingly after five minutes my friend already saw his bobber going under. He wanted to let me pull the fish in but unfortunately the fish escaped. My friend told me I kept my line to loose causing the fish to be able to unhook itself.

Hello guys,

It's time for my third post on this blog. Time to complete my first goal, catching a fish in the pond in Herzele. I woke up at 5 this morning. Why?? Because my friends said it's better to go fishing at dawn or at dusk and since I didn't have time to go fishing in the evening we had to go in the morning. Arriving at the pond there was no one there. I and two of my friends had the whole pond to ourselves. We installed us on the, according to my friend, best spot of the pond. We all brought our camping chair and started hooking our bait. Once that was done, I was ready to cast my line.

'Now, what?' I asked my friends.

 They told me to just sit back and wait for a wish to bite while quietly waiting. At first it was really annoying to just sit and do nothing at all, but after a while I started to feel really relaxed. This was really surprising I never thought I would enjoy doing nothing so much. My friend already caught a fish when after an hour I saw my bobber disappear in the water. 

 'What do I do now?' 

 With some help I hooked the fish and started pulling it in. Awesome, I had caught my first fish ever. Even though it was only a small trout it was really satisfying. By the way we released all fish after catching them.

 First goal reached and perfect way to end this days entry.

Hello, you are now reading my second post of my blog. 

In today’s entry I want to talk about the equipment you need to go fishing. of course I didn't know this myself so I asked my friends for some help. They told me an amateur fisher like me would only need a pole, a line, a hook a bobber and some bait. Luckily my dad once bought all of this equipment in a global sporting goods chain store called Decathlon. 

So now that I am all geared up, all I need is a fishing pond. Where to find fishing ponds? Easy, just try googling for them. I didn’t though, because I already knew some fishing ponds not that far away from my house. I wanted to try three spots. One in Herzele, my hometown. One in Erpe-Mere, called Steenberg. And last but not least I wanted to try catching some fish on the river Dender.

Before my friends would take me fishing they said I should make some goals for myself. Like that the fishing would be a little bit more interesting and challenging.

Now here’s a sum up of my goals;

•        Catch a fish in the pond in Herzele
•        Catch a fish on the Dender
•        Catch two fish in the pond in Erpe-Mere

With my equipment ready, my goals set and the locations known, I am finally ready to actually go fishing. But that’s something you will read about in my next post.

Hello my name is Jonas De Smet and welcome to my blog.

What's my blog about? Fishing. I know, this doesn't sound like the most interesting subject to write a blog about and why would a young person like me be interested in fishing. Well let me explain.

I am a marketing student at artevelde hoge school and my English teacher asked us to start writing a blog as an assignment. Then why fishing? isn't that really boring. Well i think so too, but my friends love it. And since I didn't know what subject I should write my blog about i thought why not give fishing a shot and write about that. 

Before i actually start to cast my line and reel in fish I first want to write down what i think about fishing right now. This way we will be able to see how much my opinion changed after i tried it. 

To me fishing sounds really lame. You basically just cast your line and wait for a fish to bite, not much more to it, right? I don’t know what my friends like so much about it? is it the satisfaction of catching a fish? the rest you get from the waiting? or do they like to go fishing for the social contact with other fishers? 

Let's see if i can find out what's so interesting about fishing. Untill next time.
