No home is safe
from burglaries, whether at home or on vacation. In addition to the usual
precautions, the opening detectors will reinforce the security of doors and
windows. Here is a practical guide to know everything about this type of alarm
system.
Opening detector: what is it?
The opening
detector or magnetic opening detector is a key component of the alarm rf
wireless system. To be functional and to be able to detect an undesirable
presence when it is activated, it must include several elements such as alarm
sirens, a remote control, detectors of all kinds and an alarm central. The
purpose of the opening detector is to detect an offensive intrusion or the
opening of the various accesses of a dwelling, a business or a professional
premise. These detectors can be placed on doors, windows, shutters or access to
ventilation ducts.
What are the components of a
peripheral detector?
Also called a
peripheral detector, the magnetic opening detector has two complementary
components. The first is a fixed electronic element that supports the flexible
switch that is installed on the door jamb. The second is mobile and has a
built-in magnet that attaches to the door or window. Generally, this safety
device does not require the installation of electrical wires. It is powered by
batteries that are delivered with purchase. Depending on the models offered,
accessories such as screws or adhesive tapes to fix the elements are included
in the pack.
How does the peripheral sensor
work?
The peripheral
sensor is operated by a magnetic system. The alarm is triggered automatically
when the two parts of the device are separated. If the door or window is opened
by more than 5 mm, the detector detects a change of state and immediately sends
a signal to the central alarm unit. The latter records this change and reacts
either by emitting an audible alarm signal or by sending the intrusion
information to a remote monitoring operator.
The advantages of a magnetic
opening detector
This security
feature has several advantages. Its main role is to prevent the intrusion of a
burglar or an intruder through the various openings of a dwelling. It can be
used anywhere: in a shop, a pharmacy, a company, etc.. As soon as a door or remote
control blinds, the siren that sounds is enough to deter and scare away
intruders in 9 out of 10 cases. In addition to access to a home, this type of
sensor also protects a drawer, a chest of drawers or a cupboard containing
valuable objects.
How to install this type of
sensor?
The peripheral
sensor is installed in two steps. In a first one it is necessary to install the
wireless part that includes the fixed electronic element that serves as a long
range video transmitter. It is placed on the upright or frame of the door or
window using adhesive tape or screws. Then install the magnetic part that is
fixed on the mobile part of the access. During this step, a maximum distance of
5 mm must be maintained between the two parts. It must also be ensured that
there is sufficient distance between the device and the hinges to facilitate
opening. The ideal is to choose a small size model that is both discreet and
functional.
