    ROYAL BRUSSELS CONSERVATORY

    Programme

    of the candidates:
    In the first round, candidates give a recital of approximately 20 minutes. They perform works or extracts from works chosen by the jury from among those proposed.
    Each candidate must prepare the following works:
    1. Five etudes, of which one by Chopin, one by Liszt, one by Debussy, one chosen from the etudes by Prokofiev, Rachmaninov, Rautavaara, Skryabin or Stravinsky, and another chosen from the etudes by Bartók, Dusapin, Ligeti, Messiaen or Ohana.
    2. A prelude and fugue from the ‘Well-Tempered Clavier’ by J.S. Bach.
    3. A work of the candidate's choice, not included in the programme for the other public rounds.

    The names of the 24 semi-finalists are announced on Saturday 8 May at the end of the evening.

    ROYAL BRUSSELS CONSERVATORY

    Orchestre Royal de Chambre de Wallonie, cond. Paul Goodwin

    Programme

    of the 24 semi-finalists:
    At each session, which consists of 2 parts, the public hears four different semi-finalists. Two candidates perform a Mozart concerto with the Orchestre Royal de Chambre de Wallonie, conducted by Paul Goodwin. Afterwards, two other candidates perform their recitals, of approximately 50 minutes.
    For their recital, each candidate prepares the compulsory unpublished work written especially for this competition by Jean-Luc Fafchamps as well as two coherent recital programmes, each made up of a classical sonata and one or more works chosen by the candidate. The jury chooses one of the two recital programmes proposed.

    The names of the 12 finalists are announced on Saturday 15 May at the end of the evening.

    Within the framework of the Piano Competition, these four members of the jury will share their art and their knowledge with young pianists who have already reached an advanced standard, whether or not they are candidates in the Competition. The master classes will be held in the auditorium of the MIM and will be given by two teachers each day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Each teacher will give one morning and one afternoon class, and will spend 40 minutes with each of his or her eight participants. Over the four days, each participant will have the opportunity to meet two teachers and will present works of his or her choice.

    The application form should be returned to the Secretariat of the Queen Elisabeth Competition, 20 rue aux Laines, B-1000 Brussels. Once your application has been accepted, you will be sent a request for payment. Your registration will not be confirmed until payment has been received. Registration fees cannot be refunded under any circumstances.
    Tickets may also be bought during the half hour before each session.
