    Kaya's Place
for friends and family around the world
So i created a blog : I guess i want to start writing about what we do as a family and then maybe this is the place where i can start writing my journals when we are on vacation. That way everyone can read what we've been up to, and get ideas on what to do if they should go to the same place. This blog will mostly be in English, since i have so many English speaking friends.

    Mijn VistaPrint Elektronische Visitekaartje
As most of you have already discovered on Facebook, we are back home from London....
We had a fabulous time and really enjoyed visiting the city again after almost 8 yrs of not visiting.

I am uploading pics to Facebook from all the things we did... well... from almost everything...
There is one thing we did where i do not have pictures from.... and that is our visit to the ER of a London Hospital...

Yep... you read that right... we spent almost an entire night at the ER with Kaya
We had a wonderful day that saturday, enjoyed it very much and ended it with a lovely dinner at the Rainforest Café... on Kaya's request...
When we got back to the hotel, we watched a bit of television and then after having freshened up we all went to bed...
All of a sudden Geert woke me up and told me Kaya had vomitted... i was thinking "oh my... not like in Berlin !"
Kaya was sitting on the edge of her sofabed... and before i could ask anything she vomitted again... so i quickly rushed her to the bathroom, left her in Geert's care and put some clothes on so i could get some help at the reception.
I explained what happened and they said they would send up a cleaner immediately and would get us new sheets for the bed as well... i was also asked if Kaya was allright or did i think she needed a doctor or go to hospital...
I told them she was fine and that it would probably be okay, you know what it is like, once it's out, they usually feel heaps better...
I got back upstairs and Geert told me Kaya had vomitted again... and was feeling cold...
Housekeeping came by to clean up the mess and change the bedding... and we went back to bed....

10 minutes later... Kaya is in the bathroom again... 10 minutes later we are all back in bed...
this is repeating several times... and i see Kaya getting worse and worse...
her stomach is empty... she has nothing to throw up, but yet she keeps going... she is in pain and is throwing up bile

we decide there is no way we are getting through the night like this, Kaya needs help and she needs it soon
so back downstairs i go and i ask the reception to call a doctor, when i'm on the phone i get told the soonest we can get a doctor come see us at the hotel is around 10am in the morning... that is more than 9 hours wait, nope.. not good enough for me... so i decide to let the reception call me a taxi while we get ready so we can go to the hospital.
10 minutes later we are on our way....

When we arrive at the hospital, you can tell it is a saturday night.... lots of people in the ER, mostly drunk people... luckily we only have to wait a short time cause we're bringing in a sick child.
we are taken to the children's department of the ER and there we wait for a nurse to come check on Kaya... we tell what happened... and meanwhile Kaya keeps vomitting and being in pain...
it takes them more than 2 hours to finally decide that she needs something to stop the vomitting... i told them that from the beginning...
then they have to go search for the drug she needs, cause it's not in stock at the ER... so we wait another 30 minutes....
and then they need 30 minutes to try to get a needle in Kaya's veins...
Geert at that moment is almost as pale as Kaya since it seems we're not moving forward with any treatment for her and she keeps being in pain... and i'm trying my best to remain calm and demand someone who knows how to get a needle in to come do the job
by 5am Kaya finally receives the drug to stop the urge to vomit and to stop the pain she is feeling.... the doctor also prescribes an IV-fluid to avoid her getting dehydrated...
around 6am, we finally get the all clear to go home....

when we arrive at the hotel i ask the reception to bring our breakfast to our room around 11am since all we want to do right now is SLEEP !!!!
we get the roomservice without any extra charge what so ever... great service !

that sunday we scale down our program so Kaya can rest and recover....
we did get to enjoy the rest of our vacation though since she did recover very well, altho at times she did feel a bit tired more easily

Klik op de afbeelding om de link te volgen Last week i tried uploading a new entry for the blog... and Firefox crashed on me... i didn't feel like trying to write it all down again...
I will see if i can remember what i was writing and fill you in on the happenings here...

On June 24th, Kaya told me the teacher said they could bring board games or a Nintendo to school, since it was the last day and there were not going to be any classes... i told her she could take a board game, but under no circumstances was she taking her Nintendo to school.
I told her it is way too expensive, and with all the games she has... (i know, she could leave most of the games at home), but the point was that i didn't want her to take it to school, cause i know the way the boys in her class act... and the risk of something happening to it, is very real.

She agrees with me, she says "mom, you're right, i'll just play with whatever boardgames the other kids will have with them, i don't want anything to happen to my Nintendo either"
I told her i was proud of her for accepting what i said, told her that was good of her.

The next day, when i went to pick her up, i had to wait a bit for her as she was still finishing some chores... i was waiting for her with my friend Fatima and her daughter Dounya, who is Kaya's BFF.
Fatima asked Dounya if she had a good day... and Dounya goes off : "it was not nice at all... we all agreed we wouldn't be bringing our Nintendo, so of course i didn't bring it and all the others did bring it... so i was left out all day"
To which i replied : "not everyone brought it, Kaya left hers at home too"
To my disbelief Dounya answered "no, Kaya did have hers"... and then she suddenly stopped, looking at me like she knew she said something she wasn't supposed to say...

I was furious !! Then Kaya came running to us, all smiles... and i asked her how long would she think i would confiscate her Nintendo this time... she simply said "sorry mom"
I told her sorry wasn't going to cut it this time... and i told her to get going home... pronto !

I know... there wasn't any real harm done in the fact she took the Nintendo, nothing happened to it and she still had all the games she took...
But the fact that she had totally agreed with me the day before, that she had told me she wasn't going to take it... and then behind my back she snuck it out of the house...
That was the part that really got to me... i was soooo disappointed in her....

This happened only 6 weeks after she had lied to me about something else, and she was caught playing on the Nintendo in the middle of the night when a friend was staying over... she was then not allowed to use the Nintendo for 2 weeks...
and now she pulled this one one me...

I took away her Nintendo for 4 weeks now... and she is now realising she won't get to take it to London either... since that is still in the 4 weeks period...

Then last week it was the very last day of school, and we went to school to pick up her report card and have a talk to her teacher...
She has an outstanding report card, she was in the top three of her class and had 90,5%.
So now my girl has officially graduated from elementary school... finishing 6th grade...

Kaya is spending most of her days at my parents now, since Geert and i are still working... we both have our last day on the 16th... and then the week after that we are going to London.

The weather here has been extremely hot for the past weeks and it looks like it is going to last a bit longer still...
I am liking it and i am not liking it.... My hayfever is acting up terribly and i have had some nights i wasn't able to get much sleep cause of the heat...
But right now, nights are cooler so we get to sleep better... hoping it stays that way.

    That's all for now....

Kaya had her last day of exams today... also it is almost the end of the schoolyear....
And they celebrated that in the school chapel with a mass.... as a member of the parent comittee i was invited to join the celebration.
It was a really fun and wonderful celebration, the children had prepared notes to read and it was all very much just great to be a part of it all.

After mass, the 6th graders were asked to stand up, the principal thanked them all for their efforts over the last years and specifically for the last 2 years as they have been helping out the younger ones with reading and other things. She wished them well on their journey to middle school...
They are graduating from elementary school next tuesday and today they were honored by the rest of the school with a huge applause...

And to end the celebrations, everyone who has a birthday in June, July or August was called to the front, the kids sang happy birthday and we all got a little treat....

After that i didn't want to go home since i would have to return to the school within the hour to pick up Kaya, so i just stayed in town and enjoyed the good weather and went for a drink while i waited till it was time to go.

Kaya and i went home together and had lunch at McDonalds and then went groceryshopping....
She was happy that she no longer had any homework to do and that she could just relax and enjoy the sunny weather.

Tonight i have been browsing the websites of the museums in London, to check out their openingtimes and ticket prices. Turns out most of them are free of charge... good deal if you ask me !
27 days to go... not that i'm counting... LOL... it's just sooo much fun to get organised and looking at the websites of where we want to go makes me wanna help time go by...

Like the title of this post says it... i'm feeling a bit under the weather....
and the weather does have something to do with it.... it's been quite cold and windy the last few days...

It's like summer is never going to start... what happened to the sunny month of June like i always have known it... if we had to study the weather was gorgeous and warm....
    Not now...

So i have been sniffing all weekend... and while Kaya was studying for her last 3 days of exams in school, just stayed put on the couch...
and watched several movies with Kaya after she finished with the studying....

I sure hope the weather is going to improve the way i heard it on the news... it's supposed to get warmer during the coming week...
    Fingers crossed for that !!

Meanwhile, i'm also trying to get organised for our trip to London next month... the countdown is on... 30 days from now we will be leaving...
We are all sooo looking forward to it... it's been way too long since we were last in London... almost 8 years !!
Looking up what to do and what to visit... i always think of that as the best part of preparing for a trip... fun in advance !!
