Last night I watched the DVD An inconventient truth. Nothing special, I know, but since I am pregnant the question about our common human future keeps me busy more than it would have if I wasn't. Besides numerous tantrums as injustice, war, poverty, general stupidity, etc. parents now have to worry about the basic conditions of life on earth: will there be clean air for our children? will temperatures be liveable? what about floodings and storms? the Gulf stream? climate-refugees? what will happen to the world economy? and so on The life of Al Gore himself has thought him a few lessons about vulnerability and right or wrong. The whole climate-catastrophy itself confronts us with dilemmas in which our choices could well lead us beyond anything we have ever been confronted with and I agree with Gore when he says that the whole issue is a profoundly ethical one: it is about life and death, if not of us all, then at least of many of us children of men. Let's nog be the frog that refuses to react as environmental changes only seem to happen gradually. Let us realise with all our hearts and minds what exactly is at stake.
