as my mum relies quite heavily on the alternative from time to time, she couldn't resist to make a natal chart for Jorin, our baby son (she was drawing charts at the kitchen table when my brother and me were young as well) I haven't received it yet and am even dreading to read into it, but she has already mentioned that the child was probably up to quite an ordeal as the positions and connections of the planets at his time of birth were quite complex and even troublesome
whatever may be true or false about this whole 'science', I do hope the boy and man that he wille become, will live to learn and grow as a human and spiritual being and will let love in (even though that really sounds corny, I know)
Hi About a week ago our son was born. Things they never tell you about giving birth: you can tremble and shake like crazy, from the effort. I was still shaking a half hour after the delivery.
Although I was exhausted I hardly slept the first 12 hours. In Flanders they really like to see you make the effort to breastfeed your newborn child. So I was mainly trying that, assisted by the women in the hospital - I never saw so many caring faces in such a short while - the staff is quite large there at Sint Elisabeth. Now I am happy that they insisted on it, it is quite a unique experience, but take note that it doesn't always go smoothly!! And you have to watch out not to fall asleep while feeding in the night hours.
I do feel a little more complete as a woman now. But it is also a sacrifice, of time, money, attention,... but who can resist a needy and growing human being??
Pregnant women; yes, they feel special, sometimes bored, somtimes alone, and sexy too I'll sum up a few things that I found most poignant during this first (maybe last?) pregnancy Nothing worldshocking though *I had a hunch that something drastically had changed with my body in the beginning, but I sort of tried to ignore it: this is too much! *Because my intestines gave me a hard time for quite a period, I eventually went to the doc and he confirmed the awesome thing I feared: yes, I was *The most tiring days were in the beginning: had to lie down quite a bit and pull myself through driving lessons and a congress as discussant and lied to everyone about my condition... *It's only once you start reading stories and scientifical info that you get worried and change your diet: no more smoked salmon, crudites, mozarella,... avoiding cats, no wine,... and with every strange movement you fear the dream is over *My dad was surprised because he thought I would plan this sort of thing out differently; my mum seemed intuïtively informed and was already buying second hand baby stuff before I had told her anything *You could actually see the sex of the baby on the first echo at 13 weeks; my intuïtion about this was right, too: damn! *Once you tell everyone you get the feeling that some people are more involved than you are yourself: they take over and call you mum already!! *While you get exhilarated at small pops and movements in the beginning, you wish your baby would sleep more and try to exert damage controll nearing the end: I feel banged up and bruised from inside out here *It's really hard not to buy up half a life for your newly born, but everyone will tell you that you can only use half the stuff you purchase so hungrily * I barely had food revelations and think this one is a bit of a myth: only one week I could see nor reek chocolate and cheese; after I never consumed as much of the brown dark stuff as ever before *After 6 months, you really need to give your partner a crash course about babies: no, they are not like computers, no you cannot order them when to eat or sleep, yes they could die if you drop them, yes, you helped make this one! *finding a name wasn't hard, just remember dat people need to be able to memorise and write it down without bringing their brains to the boiling point; i have a cousin with a son and can NEVER remember the child's name for it is far fetched and impossible to put in writing *don't invite many people to the hospital if you would rather rest; give a party after a month or so
Nice things exist as well! I heard Lizz Wright a few years ago at Blue Note. Her performance was quite impressive. She hasn't recorded many CD's but her voice is a real mysterious joy In my opinion.
Last night I watched the DVD An inconventient truth. Nothing special, I know, but since I am pregnant the question about our common human future keeps me busy more than it would have if I wasn't. Besides numerous tantrums as injustice, war, poverty, general stupidity, etc. parents now have to worry about the basic conditions of life on earth: will there be clean air for our children? will temperatures be liveable? what about floodings and storms? the Gulf stream? climate-refugees? what will happen to the world economy? and so on The life of Al Gore himself has thought him a few lessons about vulnerability and right or wrong. The whole climate-catastrophy itself confronts us with dilemmas in which our choices could well lead us beyond anything we have ever been confronted with and I agree with Gore when he says that the whole issue is a profoundly ethical one: it is about life and death, if not of us all, then at least of many of us children of men. Let's nog be the frog that refuses to react as environmental changes only seem to happen gradually. Let us realise with all our hearts and minds what exactly is at stake.
