Geniet ervan.
'Nyah' is a word that refers to the very expression of the tradition, to the soul and feeling that makes it so unique... it's about the lift the music can give to the hardest heart. That's what all the festival is about for me. My personal crisis is really tough and the one that is surrounding me is even a tougher one. But there is still music.
There is the music of three brilliant musicians, very young that were performing in the Arlington. Six girls from England just dropped in and there you have a nice and funny courtship from three wild Irish guys and six beautifull ladies. The music is allways related to the public here in Dublin and there are so many ways to start the conversation and keep it going.
Fristi in the car... Of course everybody knows the song from whiskey in the jar. Here you have another inspiration of the same song for AA. And good for all generations. Imagine how Dublin would be if we got healthy and enjoying life without alcohol ? A city full of inspiration and creativity ?
And then,... the highlights... the ones who struck me so deeply and brought up very deep and strong emotions,
Noel Hill coming up the scene. I thought that he would fall over. So sick is this man and still, what the hell is he doing on that stage ? 'We've made it' he said ... He started off with his brilliant music and the more he played the more jokes he made and the better the sound of the three musicians became a whole, wonderfull and delightfull sound. And then... With Alec Finn he started to play an air, that's a slow tune. It's like viewing an eagle after you have climbed a very huge mountain. What a delight !!! Absolutely marvellous.... The concert was over but the people wanted more and he was not very hard to convince. So the public was joking, 'This was a very bad attempt to escape from the scene....' And that was what was happening in almost all the sessions. The public reacts openly and loudly to the music they hear.
So they did with the music from Finbar Furey. He really enjoyed his own performance. Like a storyteller reminding of people he knew or who inspired him for a song, telling jokes and stories. And at the end of the concert, the whole Button factory was singing the Green Fields of France and he stood up and left the microphone behind him and then it was perfectly silent when he continued singing alone with the spotlights on him, just his voice. This musician as if he is standing naked, with all of his soul and passion coming to the public, brings up a well of tears... On his sign, the public joined in ... What a beautifull meeting thanks to the music !
And then, sometimes.... you hear a song that you havn't heard since a very very long time and it does remind you of certain things and certain people and certain places. Eleanor Shaney came up with a song from the movie 'Paris, Texas'. Que lejos estoy del pueblo donde he nacido...
There is so many to say and so many to hear and experience through the music. I hope you will get to a session and enjoy it. In Dublin all year round and specially in the tradfest, we'll see each other next year ? Oh yes, don't forget to bring the friends. If they don't like the music, there is plenty of delicious food to taste in Temple Bar. And in the programm of tradfest, recipes to take home and try out...
