Report on the interrogation of survivors from U-664 sunk on 9 august 1943
German Naval Radio Intelligence ( B-dienst)
The German Navy maintais an extensive radio intelligence organiation known as "B - Dienst ". U-664 is the first U-boat from which "B-Dienst" operatives have been captured.
During U-664 third patrol in the Nord Atlantic a radio electrician happen to overhear voice traffic on a wave lenght of 124.5 meters while using standard all-wave Telefunken receiver. Althougd nobody on board understood sufficient Englisch to makr the intercept worth while, it neverthless was established that this was convoy traffic.
Upon return from this patrol the observation was passed alog to the German Admiralty in Berlin where it was decided that U-664 would carry a radio intelligence operative on her next patrol to investigate the possibilities of intercepting convoy traffic.
A radio intelligence operativ named Dobberstein xas obtained from headquarters located St Andries near Bruges, Belgium. Dobberstein was assigned the rating " Artilleriemaat"
