Our food culture has changed a lot in the past and is still changing. The factors that used to influence what food we ate are still there: television, friends, family, magazines
However, there is a new factor that has an enormous impact on what we eat: social media. Because of social media we are more demanding on what our food should look like, how it should be served
But the most important thing that social media have changed is the fact that everything needs to be healthy. Social media make us think that if something is not healthy we are ought not to eat it. The health-vibe is everything nowadays. You cannot go on Instagram without seeing the healthy lifestyle being promoted. And of course this influences a lot of people. Our food culture is very low-fat, vegan, vegetarian
Which of course is not a bad thing. But if you are caught eating fast-food it is often frowned upon. Another thing that social media changed in our food culture is that it should not only taste good, but it has to look good. Why even go out and have a meal if I doesnt look pretty on your social media? This is a new problem that we did not have ten years ago. Social media has changed the way we think about food. Social media has changed our food culture.
