The 3rd book in Erik Lorentzen's The Elvis Files series is volume 4 and handles 1965-1968. Is it as attractive as the first two parts that were issued?
Design
The massive book count 569 pages, including some page-sized ads. Just like the previous volume it handles the movies in depth. This information is decorated with tons of pictures. Thumbing through the book is a delight by itself.
Content
The book starts with some publicity shots and a part adapted from Fortas book From Memphis To Hollywood before its time to go on with the immortal Harum Scarum. Of course many pictures of the set, the movie and some publicity shots. There are some candids included from the time the movie was made. Talking about candids this book contains many of them. Those impromptu moments always have something special.
Frankie and Johnny and Paradise, Hawaiian Style are next. The header by Piers Beagly The Beatles were recording Rubber Soul, Bob Dylan was writing Like a Rolling Stone, and Elvis was singing Queenie Wahines Papaya says it all! The articles from the magazines at the time werent too positive either, why didnt he get awake earlier? Its the death of Bill Black is the main referrer to better times
1966 starts with some candids in the snow at Graceland before continuing the movie-years with Spinout. Double Trouble and Easy Come, Easy Go (contender for the title worst Elvis movie) follow. Clambake is the first 1967 movie, with quite some wardrobe shots making it more or less funny. Then its time for the wedding and honeymoon, with tons of more or less known pictures. Speedway has a bit extra because of Nancy Sinatras presence. Stay Away, Joe closes 1967.
Before going on with the movies, a baby was born in 1968 and of course the book covers the birth of Lisa-Marie thoroughly. Live a Little, Love a Little precedes the famous visit to Tom Jones in April and the Hawaii holiday in May. Then it is time for the comeback publicity shots, pics from the recording sessions, press conference, rehearsals and of course the special itself theyre all there! Next to the great pictures (unfortunately they differ in quality) it is fun to read the positive press about it!
Then its time for a quite different Elvis the bearded one! Charro gets quite some coverage and there are even nude pics included! Maffia Elvis closes the movies with The Trouble With Girls, before the book finally finishes with another pile of candid moments.
Conclusion
This volume carries quite some candid pictures, which I happen to like, but because of the nature the quality is not as good as movie stills or publicity shots. To some that may be a minor, but to me those shots make Elvis more human and less God-like. Its amazing how much time that man took for his fans!

With only 50 copies of each color known to be in existance, these colored Moody Blue Albums rank among the most sought-after collector's records in the entire Elvis world. There are 5 albums in the complete set, each valued at 1500 $US or more and it's only seldom that they show up on eBay. However the most rare Moody Blue we've laid eyes on, is en experimental picture disc with the cover of A Legendary Performer Vol.2 in the grooves. That particular one of a kind record sold recently for 10,000 $US... This set of 2 will go for less than 2500 $US.

Christmas with Elvis... and the Elvis Imperials: bestel tijdig
Nog minder dan 140 tickets te gaan en dan zijn we... sold out! Kerstmis op zn mooist: dat is Christmas With Elvis and the Elvis Imperials.
Welcome to RLF Victor Productions Ltd., an independent film production company founded in 2008 by successful entertainment entrepreneurs Ricki Landers Friedlander and Cindy Friedlander. RLF Victor Productions develops, produces and finances a proven, profitable genre of commercial theatrical motion pictures and select television projects cultivated for their mass appeal and marketability on all levels.
RLF Victor Productions is proud to announce pre-production is in motion on the first feature film ever developed on the inside story of Elvis Presley.
Fame & Fortune
is an intimate account of the relationship of Sonny West with Elvis Presley written by Cindy Friedlander, Sonny West and Michael Schlau and based on the book Elvis: Still Taking Care of Business, written by Sonny West with Marshall Terrill.
Fame & Fortune will be directed by acclaimed writer/director John Scheinfeld who directed, wrote and produced the acclaimed documentaries Who is Harry Nilsson (And Why is Everybody Talkin' About Him)? and The U.S. vs. John Lennon, which premiered at the Venice International Film Festival and the Toronto Film Festival.
Sonny West, an intimate member of the Kings entourage known as the Memphis Mafia was a close friend and bodyguard of Elvis for sixteen years. Fired without notice or severance pay after making repeated attempts to stem the flow of prescription drugs to Elvis, he and his cousin Red wrote the first tell all book about the truth behind the Elvis image in 1977 published two weeks prior to Elviss untimely death.
Polarized by the Elvis fan world as either the savior of Elvis who never had a chance to save the King, or the demon who drove Elvis into his final whirlwind of drug taking in his despair over knowing the tell all book would be released, Sonny's life story sizzles with the heights of drama. From living the roller coaster high life of celebrity success and excess to desperately using all measures to pull the man he loved most out of a spiral of prescription drug abuse, this story pulls out all the stops.
Elvis was a complicated star, deeply wounded by the early loss of his ultra close mother, confused by the implications of losing his twin Jesse Garon in the womb, and searching for spiritual meaning for the incredible life he had been granted. An incredible talent who suffered the embarrassment of acting in a string of banal chick flick musical movies, while the Beatles changed the face of music and aware of his laughable image, Elvis reinvented himself with the '68 Comeback Special and a new image with his never topped live shows in Las Vegas.
According to Alanna Nash in an article on the Vanity Fair site Bobbi Owen was the name of the girl Elvis kissed on the famous Wertheimer picture in 1956.
Out by August 16, 2011 The Bicentennial King, Vol. 3 will be Millbranch's third CD with an 8 page booklet containing lots of photos and different original 1976 Shreveport, LA newspaper articles with information regarding the Elvis concert at the Hirsch Coliseum on July 1, 1976. All you fans out there know what to expect from Elvis´ Shreveport 76 show - so if you are interested be advised to get your copy as soon as you can.

It took me a few deep breaths to force myself to listen to FTDs Amarillo 77. After I made that, I had to promise my CD-player that I would play something good right after it. Is our prejudice rightful?
Design
What can you do with pictures of Elvis in 1977? At least the contrast between text and background is high , enough said about the design!
Content
The main part of this disc is filled with the show in Amarillo on March 24, 1977. The introductions and bonus tracks are from different March 77 shows.
The show starts halfway Thats All Right, so I guess we miss See See Rider and I Got a Woman/ Amen, no big loss I would say. Are You Lonesome Tonight is broken up after a few lines and then started again. The usual joking is done during the full version. Reconsider Baby is one of the few songs that I was looking forward to, but it was against better knowing . only talking and a few chords on guitar. During Love Me I was ensuring myself it was the CD-player and not the record-player making sound it sounds like it runs too slow. If You Love Me is totally ruined by Shaun Singing Saw Nielsen. You Gave Me A Mountain is not as bad as some other versions, but it clearly misses the power and volume it used to have. Some screams cant make up for that, especially the finish was weak. The rocknroll police should have done something against the rape of Jailhouse Rock. SKIP, I refuse to listen to O Sole Mio. Little Sister is acceptable and Teddy Bear/ Dont Be Cruel gets also a false start and the usual throwaway treatment. Ive heard worse versions of My Way, but its far from strong. The introductions (from March 29) are boring as ever, even a decent version of Early Morning Rain cant help that. I know now why Hurt is called so, my ears were really hurt probably the most out of tune version! Hound Dog and Cant Help Falling In Love close this painful show.
The sound is not really good for a soundboard, Elvis is very upfront, which is certainly with a 1977 show a shame. Also the backing vocals (JD Sumner) are very loud compared to the mucisians.
The bonus songs bring And I Love You So the soundquality obviously better than the show before, disregarding the fact that Elvis was complaining about it in the lyrics. At least this one and Fever show that Elvis voice was much better 6 days later. I dont know who thinks that Love Me Tender is worth adding as bonus track, but what the heck its by far not the worst performance on this disc. Steamroller Blues from March 28 is a little gem among the debris on this disc, but that says nothing about this version, well it has some shine in it. Help Me is okay, like Why Me Lord. Bosom of Abraham an You Better Run are fun to have in this quality. An okay including an extra damn - version of How Great Thou Art closes the gospel segment on this CD. A messy version of Tryin To Get To You closes this survival trek through March 1977.
Conclusion
The bonus part makes up a bit for the poor main performance. Unfortunately my prejudice is confirmed once more... up to the Bang Years!

This special edition hardcover book will feature many rare photographs of the rarely seen and exciting 1971 tour. With over 100 unpublished color and black and white photos, this book will be a throwback to some of the early classic JAT titles. Over its 23 years JAT Publishing has captured almost every element of Elvis Presleys illustrious career with the exception of a book devoted entirely to the November 1971 tour. This is a book not to be missed.
Public domain release in Europe, containing most of the G.I. Blues sessions. Brought with a great 100 page book.
The ElvisNews Review
Recently MRS released G.I. Blues The Café Europa Sessions. This is possible since the recordings are in the public domain due to European copyright laws. Is it the definitive G.I. Blues collection?
Design
About the design I could be very short: stunning! The 4CDs, all with either a red or blue border are attached to the front and back of the 100 page book. The first two discs carry promo shots for the movie, the other two pictures of the recording sessions. The book, which is on the same format as the BMG boxes like Platinum and Close Up. It contains tons of pictures, from both the movie and the sessions. Many of them I never saw before. There are textual contributions by Ray Walker of The Jordanaires and Sid Tepper (forward, an unfortunate print error). The text gives many background details on the movie and sessions. Of course there is a complete overview of the sessions and the tracklisting of the the CDs. The book also has sections with memorabilia, movie posters, lobby cards and record sleeves.
Content
The set brings the masters and most of the outtakes in perfect sound quality, although sometimes it sounds a bit high in my ears. I said most of the outtakes, since the outtakes that were released by RCA/ BMG/ Sony in later years are omitted, probably due to the before mentioned European copyright laws. I found myself bored by these sometimes very repeating complete sessions the last couple of years. Maybe because I am less fanatic than I was 20 years ago, or just because Im spoilt by now. For some reason I found It easy to sit through these 4 CDs. Of course the material isnt the strongest, but in general I think it is the last decent soundtrack. I always liked the title track and Shoppin Around very much. Blue Suede Shoes isnt as strong as 4 years earlier, but still a very good rocker. Didja Ever and Frankfort Special are fun and I think Doin The Best I Can and Pocketful Of Rainbows are quite beautiful songs and the remaining is at least acceptatble, maybe beside the huge hit Wooden Heart, which I really dislike, maybe because it seems to turn up on every collection and I just heard it too much over the years. The behind the scenes look during these sessions are funny. Elvis is still practising his German every now and then (Achtung!) and it is really amazing how polite he is to the people in the boot.
Conclusion
Regarding package it is the definitive G.I. Blues release, Sony/ FTD will never be able to beat it. Unfortunately it is not complete and we are missing several takes on this set. Still the remaining 4+ hours gave me a lot of pleasure.
