Your bridal shoes will be stylin with these easy-to-craft shoe clips. Using ribbons and fashion feathers, they make a fun statement and will fancy up any pair of heels you find to wear. They would also be a great accent for your maids, especially popping out from under short bright summer dresses.
Step One. Cut four lengths of 1/2 in ribbon, each one just a bit smaller then the previous one.
Step Two. Fold the ends of each ribbon into the center and glue in place, using fabric glue.
Step Three. Combine the four ribbons together and stitch in the center to join them.
Step Four. Attach feathers on the top of the ribbon stack with fabric glue. I love the look of two larger feathers and two smaller ones combined.
Step Five. Once everything is dry, use fabric glue to attach a broach clip to the backside of the ribbon stack. Be sure to attach it so that the pin is underneath the top layer and will not pop out once used.
Insert into the back of your shoes for a festive and celebratory look!
Melissa on her timeless look: I initially based the design of my gown on a shorter version I had seen in a magazine, but over time and thanks to the amazing bridal couturier that I worked with it evolved into something very different. I love lace and knew that I always wanted to wear it on my wedding day, so I ended up selecting a beautiful piece of French chantilly lace and went with a simple A-line gown that would show it off. Like any girl I love shoes and found the perfect pair Jimmy Choo champagne glitter heels. AMAZING! I also opted for a simple pair of rose gold earrings with two small champagne diamonds in each earring a birthday present from my mum.
Knowing that Melissa wanted to marry the beautiful bush setting with the delicateness of her wedding dress, Wunderplant created a bouquet of white bougainvillaeas, white sweet peas, white hydrangeas, alba wax flower, pussy willow, Queen Annes lace, koala fern, native Australian grasses.
It is the time in a high-school girl's life where she wants to wear the perfect cheap special occasion dresses -- the one that makes her look and feel like she's part of a fairy tale.
"I knew I loved this dress the minute I tried it on," says Molly Bernick, who attends Serra Catholic High School in McKeesport, as she looked at herself in the full-length mirror at Sasha's Babette's Prom and Bridal Boutique in Bridgeville. "I knew I wanted a ball gown, didn't think I would want all the ruffles, but this dress is perfect. It doesn't have too much beading, and I love the corset back, too."
Finding the right gown is a little easier these days, says Natalia Zavodchikov, owner of Sasha's Babette's. Most girls today have perused hundreds of dresses online and have a style in mind, but don't always end up with their Prom dresses under 100 choice from the web.
"I would say 90 percent of the girls who come in with a photo of a dress they want, don't leave with that dress," Zavodchikov says. "A gown is something you really have to try on because you don't wear a gown every day."
That is the danger of buying gowns on the Internet, she says. You might get better price deals online, but it's better to be able to see and touch the dress, Zavodchikov says. It also is important to bring along the undergarments, jewelry and shoes you will be wearing with the dress to see how it all coordinates.
Kimberly Mentecki, co-owner of Babe's Broadway Bridal in New Kensington with her mother Karen Fassinger, agrees girls have researched lots of dresses and that most are open to seeing everything that's available.
"There are so many styles, colors and patterns to choose from," Mentecki says. "What seems really popular this year are the high-low dresses, flamingo-inspired dresses with lots of ruffles. The peacock print is big, as well as bold colors. You will also see lots of embellishments on bodices. Bold colors are in. But really, in the end, it's about what she wants. It's about choosing a dress that looks best with your complexion, personality and figure."
Most prom dresses in local boutiques range from $200 to $600.
"You want to see if you look good in a certain color, or if there is too much or not enough beading, or if the fabric lays right on your body," Zavodchikov says. "We are there to help you because we want you to find something that is special, because prom is such a special night."
And don't be afraid to ask for assistance. Sales associates are more than willing to help.
Sometimes, girls will come in groups when just looking, but for the actual purchase, a parent is usually there, Zavodchikov says.
"When you are dealing with Mom and daughter, and sometimes Dad and daughter, you are dealing with two generations, so you have to aware of that," says Zavodchikov, who like most boutique owners will register the dress so no one else from the same school can purchase it. "Usually Mom and Dad give in. We might have to sew a slit so it's not too high, or add a piece of fabric to give more coverage and usually Mom and Dad are happy with that. It's about compromise at times."
It's also about buying the girl what she wants, says Lori Fillippa of Pleasant Hills, who was shopping at Sasha's Babette's with daughter Chelsea, 18, and her best friend, Claire Dobransky, 17, both seniors at Thomas Jefferson High School in Jefferson Hills. The girls decided to travel to a boutique outside of their town.
"It's her dress ... but I trust she knows what she wants and won't want anything I don't like," Lori Fillippa says.
Dobransky isn't afraid to go off the board a little with a color you might not think of for prom.
"I like white dresses," Dobransky says. "This one is not too fancy but it has some beading which I really like. Once you try on the right dress you know it. It's OK to wear white to prom. I am going to make it OK."
Getting the girls to decide sometimes includes drama similar to what you see on the TLC show, "Say Yes to the Dress."
"I think that show influences them," Mentecki says. "That show has changed shopping for prom. Prom is all about the bling."
Katelyn Kendra, 17, a junior at Highlands, who was shopping at Babe's Broadway Bridal, says she is indecisive.
"My daughter, Marleah, went over to help her, and she told her that she had never been in a prom dress before and didn't know what to do. She said her grandmother was in the car and had told her she could look around, but not to get a dress because they couldn't afford it," Glenna said. "We explained that the dresses were free. When she tried a dress on, she told us she didn't have any under garments to wear with it because they had lost everything and didn't have money to purchase wedding dresses. She said they were taking everything they had to buy food and provide for her other four siblings."
HOP made sure the girl left with many needed wedding dress. They got the girl's grandmother out of the car and explained to her there was no cost for the dresses. The grandmother cried and told HOP she had never seen her granddaughter in a dress before because they couldn't afford it.
"Many of the stories we heard were similar," Glenna said. "They lost everything with no hopes of going to prom. They were basically focused on just getting by, with no time for extras. When we were able to tell them the dresses were free, many flew out the door and came back with classmates."
HOP not only helped with prom, but they were able to dress many girls for graduation too.
HOP also had 12 wedding dresses available and was able to give six of them to someone in need.
One wedding dress went to an older woman who came in with her daughters and granddaughters. It was her 50th wedding anniversary, and her and her husband were planning to renew their wedding vows. The woman told Glenna that they wanted to have a "real wedding," because when they got married they didn't have the money to plan a wedding.
The couple had originally planned to have all their children come to the second wedding. The woman wanted to wear the wedding dress she had worn for their first wedding. However, the tornadoes destroyed the home they had lived in for 50 years, as well as her wedding dress. She had come to see if any of HOP's wedding dresses would fit.
"I took her back and found one," Glenna said. "She started to cry. She pulled a photo from her wallet, and I saw that the dress I had picked out was almost identical in style to the one she originally had worn 50 years ago. I couldn't keep from crying myself."
After seven hours of finding the right dress for each girl, HOP still had about 300 dresses left, which will be going into storage for any of the students in need of a dress next year.
"It was an exhausting experience, but one that was so well worth it," Glenna said. "Touring the devastation of Henryville and the surrounding areas was something that we will carry with us forever," Glenna told The Brazil Times. "My girls and I talked the entire trip of just how amazing the experience truly was for us as mother and daughters. We talked about how we view things and take the simple things for granted."
Glenna said how much she appreciated the strangers in southern Indiana who welcomed her and her daughters, as well as all those who donated dresses and other supplies.

Friday was the day in Schoharie, many high school seniors have been waiting for, picking out their purple prom dresses.
It's even a bigger deal, because many say they would not have been able to afford a new dress.
This has been a trying year for students in Schoharie. Still seven months after Tropical Storm Irene, many families are rebuilding, and they're financially strapped.
Friday, school ended with some much needed shopping. High school seniors sifted through racks of prom dresses, searching for that perfect one.
They had more than 300 dresses to choose from, all on display in the school auditorium. All the dresses were donated, some from doctors and nurses at Ellis Hospital, some from other school districts, and boutiques.
While prom is an important night for a teenager, it's not a priority, and many financially could not afford all of the accessories for this night, mainly, the high low prom dresses 2012.

Om berichten toe te voegen, doet u dit als volgt. Surf naar http://www.bloggen.be/ en log vervolgens in met uw gebruikersnaam en wachtwoord. Druk vervolgens op 'Toevoegen'. U kan nu de titel en het bericht ingeven.
Om een bericht te verwijderen, zoals dit bericht (dit bericht hoeft hier niet op te blijven staan), klikt u in plaats van op 'Toevoegen' op 'Wijzigen'. Vervolgens klikt u op de knop 'Verwijderen' die achter dit bericht staat (achter de titel 'Proficiat!'). Nog even bevestigen dat u dit bericht wenst te verwijderen en het bericht is verwijderd. U kan dit op dezelfde manier in de toekomst berichten wijzigen of verwijderen.
Er zijn nog een hele reeks extra mogelijkheden en functionaliteiten die u kan gebruiken voor uw blog. Log in op http://www.bloggen.be/ en geef uw gebruikersnaam en wachtwoord op. Klik vervolgens op 'Instellingen'. Daar kan u een hele reeks zaken aanpassen, extra functies toevoegen, enz.
WAT IS CONCREET DE BEDOELING??
De bedoeling is dat u op regelmatige basis een bericht toevoegt op uw blog. U kan hierin zetten wat u zelf wenst.
- Bijvoorbeeld: u heeft een blog gemaakt voor gedichten. Dan kan u bvb. elke dag een gedicht toevoegen op uw blog. U geeft de titel in van het gedicht en daaronder in het bericht het gedicht zelf. Zo kunnen uw bezoekers dagelijks terugkomen om uw laatste nieuw gedicht te lezen. Indien u meerdere gedichten wenst toe te voegen op eenzelfde dag, voegt u deze toe als afzonderlijke berichten, dus niet in één bericht.
- Bijvoorbeeld:
u wil een blog maken over de actualiteit. Dan kan u bvb. dagelijks een bericht plaatsen met uw mening over iets uit de actualiteit. Bvb. over een bepaalde ramp, ongeval, uitspraak, voorval,... U geeft bvb. in de titel het onderwerp waarover u het gaat hebben en in het bericht plaatst u uw mening over dat onderwerp. Zo kan u bvb. meedelen dat de media voor de zoveelste keer het fout heeft, of waarom ze nu dat weer in de actualiteit brengen,... Of u kan ook meer diepgaande artikels plaatsen en meer informatie over een bepaald onderwerp opzoeken en dit op uw blog plaatsen. Indien u over meerdere zaken iets wil zeggen op die dag, plaatst u deze als afzonderlijke berichten, zo is dit het meest duidelijk voor uw bezoekers.
- Bijvoorbeeld: u wil een blog maken als dagboek. Dagelijks maakt u een bericht aan met wat u er wenst in te plaatsen, zoals u anders in een dagboek zou plaatsen. Dit kan zijn over wat u vandaag hebt gedaan, wat u vandaag heeft gehoord, wat u van plan bent, enz. Maak een titel en typ het bericht. Zo kunnen bezoekers dagelijks naar uw blog komen om uw laatste nieuwe bericht te lezen en mee uw dagboek te lezen.
- Bijvoorbeeld: u wil een blog maken met plaatselijk nieuws. Met uw eigen blog kan u zo zelfs journalist zijn. U kan op uw blog het plaatselijk nieuws vertellen. Telkens u iets nieuw hebt, plaats u een bericht: u geeft een titel op en typt wat u weet over het nieuws. Dit kan zijn over een feest in de buurt, een verkeersongeval in de streek, een nieuwe baan die men gaat aanleggen, een nieuwe regeling, verkiezingen, een staking, een nieuwe winkel, enz. Afhankelijk van het nieuws plaatst u iedere keer een nieuw bericht. Indien u veel nieuws heeft, kan u zo dagelijks vele berichten plaatsen met wat u te weten bent gekomen over uw regio. Zorg ervoor dat u telkens een nieuw bericht ingeeft per onderwerp, en niet zaken samen plaatst. Indien u wat minder nieuws kan bijeen sprokkelen is uiteraard 1 bericht per dag of 2 berichten per week ook goed. Probeer op een regelmatige basis een berichtje te plaatsen, zo komen uw bezoekers telkens terug.
- Bijvoorbeeld: u wil een blog maken met een reisverslag. U kan een bericht aanmaken per dag van uw reis. Zo kan u in de titel opgeven over welke dag u het gaat hebben, en in het bericht plaatst u dan het verslag van die dag. Zo komen alle berichten onder elkaar te staan, netjes gescheiden per dag. U kan dus op éénzelfde dag meerdere berichten ingeven van uw reisverslag.
- Bijvoorbeeld:
u wil een blog maken met tips op. Dan maakt u telkens u een tip heeft een nieuw bericht aan. In de titel zet u waarover uw tip zal gaan. In het bericht geeft u dan de hele tip in. Probeer zo op regelmatige basis nieuwe tips toe te voegen, zodat bezoekers telkens terug komen naar uw blog. Probeer bvb. 1 keer per dag, of 2 keer per week een nieuwe tip zo toe te voegen. Indien u heel enthousiast bent, kan u natuurlijk ook meerdere tips op een dag ingeven. Let er dan op dat het meest duidelijk is indien u pér tip een nieuw bericht aanmaakt. Zo kan u dus bvb. wel 20 berichten aanmaken op een dag indien u 20 tips heeft voor uw bezoekers.
- Bijvoorbeeld:
u wil een blog maken dat uw activiteiten weerspiegelt. U bent bvb. actief in een bedrijf, vereniging of organisatie en maakt elke dag wel eens iets mee. Dan kan je al deze belevenissen op uw blog plaatsen. Het komt dan neer op een soort van dagboek. Dan kan u dagelijks, of eventueel meerdere keren per dag, een bericht plaatsen op uw blog om uw belevenissen te vertellen. Geef een titel op dat zeer kort uw belevenis beschrijft en typ daarna alles in wat u maar wenst in het bericht. Zo kunnen bezoekers dagelijks of meermaals per dag terugkomen naar uw blog om uw laatste belevenissen te lezen.
- Bijvoorbeeld: u wil een blog maken uw hobby. U kan dan op regelmatige basis, bvb. dagelijks, een bericht toevoegen op uw blog over uw hobby. Dit kan gaan dat u vandaag een nieuwe postzegel bij uw verzameling heeft, een nieuwe bierkaart, een grote vis heeft gevangen, enz. Vertel erover en misschien kan je er zelfs een foto bij plaatsen. Zo kunnen anderen die ook dezelfde hobby hebben dagelijks mee lezen. Als u bvb. zeer actief bent in uw hobby, kan u dagelijks uiteraard meerdere berichtjes plaatsen, met bvb. de laatste nieuwtjes. Zo trek je veel bezoekers aan.
WAT ZIJN DIE "REACTIES"?
Een bezoeker kan op een bericht van u een reactie plaatsen. Een bezoeker kan dus zelf géén bericht plaatsen op uw blog zelf, wel een reactie. Het verschil is dat de reactie niet komt op de beginpagina, maar enkel bij een bericht hoort. Het is dus zo dat een reactie enkel gaat over een reactie bij een bericht. Indien u bvb. een gedicht heeft geschreven, kan een reactie van een bezoeker zijn dat deze het heel mooi vond. Of bvb. indien u plaatselijk nieuws brengt, kan een reactie van een bezoeker zijn dat deze nog iets meer over de feiten weet (bvb. exacte uur van het ongeval, het juiste locatie van het evenement,...). Of bvb. indien uw blog een dagboek is, kan men reageren op het bericht van die dag, zo kan men meeleven met u, u een vraag stellen, enz. Deze functie kan u uitschakelen via "Instellingen" indien u dit niet graag heeft.
WAT IS DE "WAARDERING"?
Een bezoeker kan een bepaald bericht een waardering geven. Dit is om aan te geven of men dit bericht goed vindt of niet. Het kan bvb. gaan over een bericht, hoe goed men dat vond. Het kan ook gaan over een ander bericht, bvb. een tip, die men wel of niet bruikbaar vond. Deze functie kan u uitschakelen via "Instellingen" indien u dit niet graag heeft.
