I'm very sorry that it took me so long to put in my second report. I hope you 'll all forgive me
A lot happened since the last time I wrote. As you could read in the previous piece I became chef... That means that I'm in charge of everything that's remotely close to entertainment. I have to organise the daytime programm for the children and the adults, I'm in charge of the materials, I'm putting together 4 different shows and I have to learn them to my collegue Stefanie, I have to arrange the written and spoken communication with the guests, the manager of the hotel, my boss, I'm teaching my collegue Stef and filling in her evaluation forms, talking to her teacher. I'm also making up some short quizes and other games. A part from all off that, I'm of course doing the entertainers job; doing sports with the youngsters and the adults during the day, PR with the guests, doing the minidisco, prepare a minishow with the children, dance the clubdance 4 times a day, entertain my mother a little bit while she was here last week, go out once in a while,... So I hope you'll understand why I am a bit behind on my reports
My schedule has changed a little bit, my free day is now on Saturday and on Sunday I only have to work from 3' o clock. I am really glad for that because i have a little bit of a weekend left now.
Now it's Sunday morning, I went out yesterday and I just woke up, that's why this report is a bit boring.. I went to the local disco 'Physical', a quite big, modern club with good music. I always seem to get in for free, so that's nice.. Evelyn, als ge hier zijt moeten we d'er zeker 's naartoe!!!
Oh something else, I know some of you are asking for photo's but so far I didn't succeed putting them on this blog yet. I think they are to big or something. I have to take a look at that.
Anyway I'm going to take a nap now, because today I work from 3 untill 12 tonight without siesta...
Hope to hear from you soon!!! Bye bye, ciao, adios, tschuss, saluukes!
After almost a month of living and working in Hotel Lago Playa in Mallorca, I discovered that I have wireless, FREE access to the world wide web in the lobby of the hotel! Better late than never, so here I am with my own personal website. I'm gonna try to put some facts and pictures on this thing, but don't expect a detailed rapport on my live here (he mam ) because I simply don't have time for that.
To be honest, I really don't know where to begin...
In short, for the people I wasn't in contact with recently (and for the people who would like to read it again):
On the 10th of May 2007 Inês (Portugese girlfriend of the Belgian boy Kobe) and I took a plane to Lisbon to have my holiday before going to work abroad for 6 months as an entertainer. In Lisbon I stayed in Inês' place. It was so nice to see Andre(P) and Txus (ES living in Lisbon) back, after I met them last summer in Peru. I had a wonderfull time there. Lisbon is a really nice city. Although it's much bigger, the athmosphere reminded me of Gent. I saw a beautiful, extraordinary, double, halfcircled rainbow on the river when Txus showed my around the old part of the city. I had a unforgettable time with Raul (P friend of Inês, photographer) who took me out to show the countrysides around Lisbon. The impression I've got from Lisbon was too short but I know I've seen enough to know I want to go back someday. Unfortunately after 5 days I had to leave Portugal. After the goodbye in Zaventem, the second goodbye in tears...
The hardest thing of travelling is to say goodbye.
This time the plane took me to Barcelona, where I was going to stay just one night at the appartment of Annalisa (Italian girl living and working in Barcelano) and Carlos (her Peruvian boyfriend) who I also met in Peru. Unfortunately, due to all kinds of transportation problems, I arrived too late to the appartment to enjoy the city of Barcelona properly but the welcome I've got from Annalisa and Carlos was amazing! I really enjoyed the late night dinner in the kebabplace with them. I was only one day in Barcelona and unfortunately I couldn't meet the other chicos de la delegación españole.
In the morning I missed the train to the airport therefore I was very close to missing the plane. Thanks to a very friendly check-in lady the plane didn't leave without me, and took me to my destination: Palma de Mallorca. One of the bosses of FunActiv (entertainment company), Tracy, picked me up from the airport and took me to Alcudia. In hotel Bellevue, the largest hotel in Europe, I would have my training course. We were about 25 in the training course; 50 % Swedisch people, 1 German girl, 5 Holland people, 4 Belgian people and 3 English girls. They are all very nice! Olivia was my roommate, a messy, funny, very kind Swedisch girl. It would take me to far to describe all the details and stories about the people from the course so I won't. The course was very though, but fun and I learned a lot. Especially about doing shows. We soon did a Disney show in front of the guests on a big stage. Very stressfull but oh so satisfying afterwards. I experienced how much I like to present shows on stage; I love it, man! After 2 weeks of lots of stress, hard work, long days, going out and fun, they sent me to the next destination where I was to replace another entertainer for 1 week. After that week the plan was to work in Tenerife untill the end of the season...
My next destination: Gran Canaria. Monday morning at 4 o'clock (!!) 5 of us were picked up by a little bus that took us to the airport in Palma. There we took a plane to Barcelona. From there I had to go to Gran Canaria, the others to Lanzarotte, so my fifth flight in this journey took me to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. I worked there together with a Spanish girl from Madrid, Vanessa in Airtours Beach Club (5*) in Bahia Feliz. The next day Stefanie, a Dutch 17-year old student who I met on the training course came also to work with us. The hotel was beautiful! My room was splendid, I had a bedroom (with double bed, big closet, airco, a fan and a music installation), a big bathroom (with 2 sinks, shower and big tub),a kitchen (with toaster, coffee machine, microwave, waterboiler, fridge, deepfreezer AND a dishwasher!!). The living room had a flatscreen television with international Belgian/Dutch television and a view over the ocean and the pool to die for... Unfortunately the work there was very boring, the people there were very posh and didn't like any kind of entertainment.. BUT... going out in Playa Inglès was great fun!! If you're ever in Gran Canaria go to Bar Scandic and see it for yourself because it's impossible to describe what I experienced there. By the way, if you ask for the manager and tell him that you're an entertainer you'll get a VIPcard that ables you to drink for free everytime you are there... Met very nice, crazy people and lived la vida loca!!
Meanwhile after 8 days in Gran Canaria I got a phonecall from Tracy and she told me there were some problems in Tenerife and I was going back to Mallorca because they needed someone over there... The next two days I didn't have to work so I went out all night and slept all day!!
The 10th of May at 8 in the morning a taxi was waiting for me at the hotel while I was coming back from Playa Inglès with another taxi°. The taxi took me to the airport and I took a plane to Madrid... I fell asleep before the plane was in the air.. From Madrid I flew back to Palma.
A crazy Mallorquin entertainer Maria picked me up at the airport and took me to Cala Ratjada, to Hotel Lago Playa, a 4* hotel were 90% of the guests are German. In fact, 85% of the people staying in Cala Ratjada are German!! This is the place where I m going work and live till the end of Octobre. Im working with a 26-year old, Dutch guy who has the most typical Dutch name: Kees. He is my chief. His girlfriend Mercedes is a bit crazy but I like her very much. The are renting an apartment here in Cala Ratjada. My room is small. From a five stars hotel to a 4 star hotel is a big difference apparently.. I only have a little bathroom, dont have a kitchen, not even a fridge. We go out sometimes, but it is nothing compared to Gran Canaria. Florian a Dutch 21-year old student at the reception, Maria a Greek, 25-year old student at the bar, Mirka a girl from reception and Perre a Mallorquin 26-year old guy from servicios technicos join us sometimes.
This piece I wrote about a week ago. A lot has changed since then
My chief, Kees, couldnt handle the busy schedule, the hard working, the lang hours any more and decided to quit. On Thursday he called Tracy (our boss) and on Saturday night Stefanie, the girl I worked with in ABC (Gran canaria), came. Im her chief now Ive changed from doing the Miniclub to doing the adults. In stead of playing in pool with the children, colouring, skittles, Im now into rifle- and pistolshooting, archery, volleyball, darts, waterpolo and pingpong.
Since then Ive worked even harder: To organise the shedules, to make sure the people are informed, to order the material, have meetings with the director and Tracy, Its hard work but I like it. It gives me really the satisfaction that I missed in the other jobs I did before.
Also, Ive got a fridge now in my room, jiihaaa!
The shedules have changed now. For the people who are interested or who are thinking of visiting me here it is:
Im working every day from 10 untill 13.30, from 15 untill 17 and from 19.45 untill about 23.45. Except Fridays, then Im off from 13.30 untill 18; Saturdays I dont work and Sundays I start working from 15h.
Sunday and Monday we do our own shows..
The correct address of where I stay at the moment:
Hotel Lago Playa,
C/Tritón, s/n
07590 Cala Ratjada (Mallorca)
That were the most imported things for the moment. Im gonna try to inform you from time to time. For the other more private details you will have to come over J
