Beck to succeed as the Washington Redskins' new starting quarterback,he must be wary of why the job became available to him in the firstplace. And soon after his promotion was publicized Wednesday, itbecame clear he already has conquered that important firststep."Now," he said, "it's on my shoulders to take care of thefootball."That was part of coach Mike Shanahan's directive when heinformed Beck on Tuesday of his decision to bench Rex Grossman.Four interceptions in Sunday's loss to Philadelphia broughtGrossman's season total to nine, most in the league."If you keep on making those mistakes, you lose your job,"Shanahan said.Grossman did, so Shanahan hit the reset button on the Redskins' quarterback competitionafter only five games. A 3-2 record was not enough for Grossman tokeep the job he won last month after battling Beck through trainingcamp and the preseason.Instead, Shanahan appointed Beck to jumpstart an offense thathas averaged 2.7 turnovers and only 15.3 points in the past threegames. Ball security is paramount, and Beck has to navigate therisks involved in attacking opposing defenses better than Grossmandid."That's the tricky part of the quarterback position," Beck, 30,said. "There's a lot of plays that happen in the NFL wherequarterbacks take chances. Sometimes it works for you, sometimes itdoesn't. Because the windows are so small in this league, you haveto be aggressive. I'm just going to go out there and try to do thevery best that I can."The Redskins' recent turnover problems, however, extend beyond the quarterback position. Inside the lockerroom at Redskins Park, some playersinterpreted Grossman's benching as an indictment of the entireoffense.Grossman's third interception against Philadelphia, for example, occurred when tight end Fred Davis did not continue his route infront of the charging safety. Against St. Louis, receiver SantanaMoss dropped a pass that was intercepted."If some of those guys make plays, that stuff doesn't happen,"running back Tim Hightower said. "So we've got to take more pride, myself included, in stepping up and making plays. Guys who areso-called playmakers on this offense got to make plays and got tohelp make this transition for Beck a lot easier."Protecting the ball, though, ultimately is Beck'sresponsibility. And in the preseason, the only game situations inwhich Shanahan could evaluate Beck before Sunday's fourth quarter,Beck was as inconsistent as Grossman has been. He threw twointerceptions in three games, one of which was an ill-advised throwinto the end zone in the preseason finale.Since losing the job Sept. 5, Beck has practiced almostexclusively with the scout team. He believes his improvement overthe past six weeks will be noticeable."I've been able to learn the offense a little bit more," hesaid. "Now when I watched Rex at practice and in the games, myknowledge is greater. I kind of look at things with a differenteye."Shanahan recently has seen that evolution on the practice field, too, and he praised Beck for gaining nine first downs in twofourth-quarter drives against Philadelphia."He took us down the field, 75-yard drive for a touchdown, impressed with that," Shanahan said. "[We] put a lot of pressure onhim in that situation. I like the way he's been practicing the lastfew weeks. I think he deserves the opportunity for us to see whathe can do."It's one for which Beck has waited four years. He last started aregular-season game as a rookie with the Miami Dolphins in2007.How long he keeps the job depends on the quality of his play,Shanahan said. The coach believes Beck potentially could be the Redskins' quarterback of the future, but he must protect the ball. There's only one way to find out if he can."It's not like they fall out of trees, so you have to take alook and see what guy fits your system," Shanahan said. "I likewhat I see."Aaron

kind of funny when you blindside a coach with somethinghe's clueless about.Well, not funny. Weird. Then again, so is having more invasive video cameras inChicago than in any other American city - blue lights flashingeverywhere, your image caught here, there and at every ATM - with''Sunday Night Football'' cameras and overhead microphones just thecherries on top. For Bears quarterback Jay Cutler, atleast. When Cutler was caught bellowing, ''Tell him I said,'[Bleep] him,' '' in reference to offensive coordinator Mike Martzduring the Bears' game Sunday against theMinnesota Vikings, Martz was in the press box, unaware of anythingbut down and distance. The public still would be that way, too, were it not forthat overhead TV camera and mic. But we heard and saw Cutler, andnow it's on the Internet, stored forever, just like ''Bambi'' orthe first nuclear bomb in the Nevada desert. ''I didn't see . . . obviously, I was . . . I'm sorry, I'mlost,'' Martz said in confusion when he was asked Wednesday aboutCutler's words. ''What are you talking about?'' He really didn't know. We were in the Walter Payton Center, protected from thenasty wind and rain outside, and Martz was dry and baffled. You think coaches surf YouTube for fun when there's film ofthe Tampa Bay Buccaneers to break down? Ha! ''And he's directing that to who?'' Martz asked with alaugh. To you. More laughter. ''Well, if it was [directed] at me, that's probably thenicest thing that a player said to me during a game,'' he said. It was hard to tell if Martz was serious, covering up oramused. Testy relationship To put this in perspective, people should realize that in agame where paychecks, spinal cords and caveman aggressiveness areall on the line, insulting somebody with words is about as nasty aspulling a hair from a foe's forearm. Still, there has been an ongoing lack of cohesiveness andbrotherhood between Martz and Cutler in their nearly two yearstogether, signified by plays getting called late, blocking schemesthat are too complex to execute, patterns that don't spring openand Cutler getting knocked around like a rag doll. In 2009, in the days when Martz was a talker on an NFLNetwork show called ''The Head Coaches,'' he said of Cutler: ''Hejust doesn't get it. . . . Sombody needs to talk to him.'' Cutler had been immature, snarky and loaded with clichesafter throwing four interceptions in a game against the Green BayPackers. So Martz came in six months later as the Bears' offensive coordinator, andwe'll assume he gave Cutler the aforementioned ''talk.' But who knows for sure? Cutler is a prickly guy who can seem to be blind toeverybody around him, but he seems to be growing up a bit as heages afield. Maybe, though, he thinks that aging process is goingat hyper-speed. He was sacked 56 times last season, and he wassacked six times and hit 16 more times this season against the NewOrleans Saints. When you spew something indelicate toward your boss, even ifhe's stories above you in the press box, it might come from realanger. Cutler's response? ''Things happen.'' All-righty, then. 'Brilliant, brilliant guy' It's almost midseason, and the Bears are starting to have theircomplaints. Safety Chris Harris feels unwanted, unloved and unsure.Snippy linebacker Lance Briggs wants more money for himself and -good Samaritan that he is - for underpaid running back Matt Forte. Anybody else upset? Do we care? What the players always find out, at varying rates ofdiscovery, is that the NFL is a cutthroat business. They want it tobe a game, and the awareness of deception can be painful for them. That's the biz. ''It's just football,'' Martz said. ''[Jay and I] both havea great passion for what we're talking about. I don't know wherethis is going or why, but there's . . . '' And then Martz chuckled again. So this reporter had to ask him if it was necessary for anoffensive coordinator and his quarterback to be best friends. ''No, for crying out loud,'' Martz replied. ''No, no, no. .. . He's been terrific. I've got no complaints about him at all. He's a brilliant, brilliant guy.'' Like in IQ, or what? ''Yes, everything,'' Martz said. ''He picks things up soquickly, and he understands concepts immediately. I get halfway, and he's, 'Mmm-hmm, I got it.' He knows what you're talkingabout.'' Then Cutler must be smart enough to know what a vulgarfour-letter word that starts with ''f'' means. And he's gotta know about microphones at nationallytelevised NFL games. So he must know his message to anybody, anywhere, eventuallywill be delivered. That's football, right? Authentic

Detroit coach Jim Schwartz said Wednesdayhe's trying to put his fracas with San Francisco coach Jim Harbaughin his rearview mirror."Yeah, I was for 49-for-49 on shaking a hand before that,"Schwartz said on a teleconference call with members of the Atlantamedia. "I think I'll get back to that this week. I mean, I don'tknow if there's a coach I respect more in the NFL than [Falcons coach] Mike Smith."Schwartz and Smith coached against each other in the AFC Southand have a strong mutual respect."I came up and started at the very bottom," Schwartz said."That's the way Mike did, too. He earned everything he's gotten inthe NFL. He started in quality control and moved up to linebackercoach, moved up to coordinator and did a good job at what he wasassigned and ended up as a head coach and has done an outstandingjob of getting the Falcons to be a consistentwinner."Schwartz was also effusive in his praise for Falcons general manager ThomasDimitroff."I couldn't have more respect for Thomas Dimitroff," Schwartzsaid. "I was a kid who started about as low as you can start in theNFL and Thomas was with us in Cleveland, and Thomas was probablylower than me. At least I was in the building. Thomas was out onthe grounds crew, pulling tarps and painting fields."After what happened with Harbaugh, he's looking forward to thehandshake with Smith."I think I'll get back on track with handshakes this week,"Schwartz said. The Lions are 5-1 for the first time since 1991."We've come a long way," Schwartz said. "We lost a game lastweek, but it was nice to see an opponent celebrating a win over theDetroit Lions. If we beat somebody the last couple of years, a lotof times they were shaking their heads going how did we lose tothose guys."It's nice to see somebody celebrating a win against us now, andI think our fans are right there with us. If Morgan Burnett is prone to episodes of bragging, he has donea good job keeping it to himself during his time in Green Bay.The soft-spoken second-year safety already has threeinterceptions this season going into Sunday's game at Minnesota, but you certainly wouldn't know that from listening to him talkabout giving the credit to others and just trying to getbetter.Still, there's one accomplishment that might make Burnett breakcharacter and pat himself on the back: making a one-handedinterception while wearing a club on his broken right hand, a feathe'd love to accomplish Sunday. He can even imagine himself makingthe play.''Just try to focus in on those threads and catch it the bestway you can,'' Burnett said. ''You come away with a one-handedcatch, that's pretty great. That's tough.''Burnett broke his hand in practice last week and played Sunday'sgame against St. Louis with the hand wrapped up in a bulky club. Hestruggled early, allowing a big play when he missed a tackle onRams tight end Lance Kendricks. That play raised a red flag with Packers defensive coordinatorDom Capers, but Burnett settled down quickly and played well forthe remainder of the game.''I think you're dealing with open-field tackle situations,''Capers said. ''If you can't grab with one arm, you're alwaysconcerned about that. Who knows? On the first one, probably if hehad both hands he'd have gotten the guy on the ground. He's goingto be dealing with that for a while. Morgan's a bright guy and Ithink he adjusted to it and had some pretty good licks after thatand got people on the ground.''Packers coach Mike McCarthy was impressed with the way Burnettadjusted.''He missed a tackle, but after that play he settled in andplayed very well,'' McCarthy said. ''You don't have use of yourhand, just have to be fundamentally sound, particularly intackling, and really emphasize wrapping your arms. I thought heplayed very well, especially for the first time with that club onhis hand, because he really didn't get to practice with it.''Burnett acknowledged that playing with the club is achallenge.''Just (having) your hand in one set position throughout thegame, you can't have your hands in all different positions, whetherit's catching the ball, wrapping your arms on a tackle,'' Burnettsaid. ''It's just one of those things, one of those challenges, that you have to push through and try to find a way to get the jobdone.''The Packers traded up to take Burnett in the third round of the2010 draft. He won a starting job coming out of training camp as arookie, and was playing well when he tore his left anteriorcruciate ligament against Detroit in Week 4. Burnett had to watchthe remainder of the season as Charlie Peprah took over at safety, played well and helped the Packers on their run to a Super Bowltitle. But Burnett was healthy going into training camp this season, and basically won his job back right away. Now Pro Bowl safety Nick Collins is out for the season with aneck injury, pairing Burnett and Peprah in the Packers' defensivebackfield. With Collins out, Burnett has had to take on additionalresponsibilities in terms of making calls.''I like the way he's played, other than two or three plays inthe Broncos game,'' Capers said of Burnett. ''Other than that, he'splayed extremely well. I think he's been physical. He's obviouslycome up with the ball a few times. He's kind of assumed the callrole back there, moving over more to Nick's position since we lostNick. I think he's making very good progress. It's easy to forgetabout Morgan, (he) came out last year as a junior and we only hadhim for four games. He's really out there somewhat as a rookie andI think he's doing a nice job for us.''That's high praise coming from Capers. But as usual, Burnett wasmore inclined to give credit to others - even to the team'strainers for doing a ''really good job'' wrapping up his hand -than take any credit himself.''It's going pretty good,'' Burnett said. ''Still a long way togo, still a lot of learning and a lot of improving to do. That'sthe good part about it, still find ways to improve and still getbetter. I'm really looking forward to it.'DeSean

Michael Crabtree made it home to Texas on Thursday for the restof the 49ers bye week. After a short delay, that is. The wide receiver tweeted that hewas pulled over Wednesday on Interstate 280 while en route to theairport and missed his flight. He said the officer kept him for 30 minutes and then fessed upto being a fan of the Oakland Raiders, not Crabtree's Niners.''Just got pull over on highway 280 on my way to the airport.Police kept me for 30 mins,'' he tweeted, then followed up with,''Then told me he was a raiders fan and didn't like the niners!!Made me miss my flight!''But all was well a day later for the player long deemed adiva.Crabtree tweeted Thursday: ''Back in Dallas, about to chill withmy fam and get me some good BBQ.''The 24-year-old Crabtree had hoped to catch a game by his almamater, Texas Tech, but the Red Raiders are on the road thisweekend. The 10th overall draft pick in 2009, Crabtree has 20receptions for 209 yards and no touchdowns this season for SanFrancisco (5-1).Crabtree, who has missed training camp in each of his three NFLseasons, has been nursing injuries to his feet but is coming offhis best game of 2011. He had nine catches for 77 yards in a 25-19comeback road win over previously unbeaten Detroit last Sunday.''Nine catches, 77 yards and great catches. Great, 8-yardcatches at times,'' coach Jim Harbaugh said. ''Michael has beendoing that all year. Blocking extremely well again in this game. Hewas a game-ball worthy guy in this game. Continues to just make thespectacular catch that keeps drives alive, gets first downs, converts on third down.''Ray

GIANTS REPLAY 12:53 AM ETStar of the gameGiants cornerback Corey
Websterforced the only two turnovers of the game. Both of Webster'sinterceptions
came after halftime, and helped the Giants avoid another late collapsein front
of the home crowd.Turning pointWebster's second interception was the most
important. The Billswere driving with less than five minutes left and Chris
Johnson Authentic Jersey the score tied,24-24. But when Chris
Johnson Jersey Authentic quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick threw deep to
StevieJohnson, Webster leaped and intercepted the ball at the 4-yardline. The
pick kept the Bills from taking the lead. It also gavethe Giants the ball and a
chance to winthe game. They did just that on Lawrence Tynes' 23-yard field
goalwith 1:32 remaining.Coaching decisionsBefore Sunday, the Giants' run game
had been stagnant -a combined 123 yards the last Aaron
Curry Jersey Authentic two games. But Sunday, the Giants showed a commitment
to therun, finishing with 122 yards. Ahmad Bradshaw did the bulk of thatwork,
running for all three Giants touchdowns. He finished with104 yards on 26
carries.Eye-catchingThe passing game didn't get into the end zone, but it
wasproductive. Eli Manning was 21-for-32 for Dallas
Clark Authentic Jersey 292 yards and nointerceptions. Hakeem Nicks had four
catches for 96 yards, including a 60-yarder. Tight end Jake Ballard finished with
fivecatches for 81 yards.Costly mistakesIn addition to Fitzpatrick's two
second-half interceptions,Buffalo's Drayton Florence had two pass interference
penalties onthe Giants' game-winning drive. Nickswas the target on both
penalties.Looking aheadThe Giants (4-2) have a bye week. Theyreturn to action

God takes care of the rest,"Kiwanuka said. The price of NFL glory is paid for in
flesh, with injuriesunavoidable and pain an inevitability. There's Authentic
Dallas Clark Jersey no escaping the agony on Tuesday mornings, players
say, when the pounding of Sunday takes its full toll in soreness, stiffness and
misery. It's life in the league, where modern-daygiants sometimes are reduced to
crawling out of bed after thebeating they take on game day."It's really just
waking up and you're like, 'I'm not going tomake it,' " giants defensive lineman
DaveTollefson said. "You feel like you're not going to make it.""That 48 hours
after a game, you feel like you were in a carcrash," defensive tackle Chris
Canty said. "It's rough. Everyweek."And they know when retirement eventually
dawns, the real painjust may be beginning.Players don't like to think about it.
But they do."Twenty years from now, if I'm still ticking, I'm happy," saidCanty
with a laugh. "It's a reality that a lot of players havefaced. Sometimes you
feel like you're robbing Peter to payPaul.""I push [those thoughts] away," right
guard Chris Snee said. "Ithink obviously there will be issues at some point down
theline."Concussions and repetitive head trauma have stolen the headlinesthe
past few years, with some retired players developing dementiaand other
neurological issues. But even those who escape the horrific affects of
traumaticbrain injury often develop significant health issues.NFL players lose
an average of one to three years off their lifeexpectancy Dallas
Clark Jersey Authentic for every season they play, according to studies. The
pounding players take also explains why the average careerlasts just 3 1/2
years."We take a huge beating," giants rookie Da'Rel Scott said."With running
backs, it's pretty bad. You pretty much get hit everyplay. That's why it's only
about three years we last in theleague."There is scientific merit to Scott's
idea.Players don't merely leave the game due to acute injuries suchas torn
ligaments. Repetitive injury also drives some to retirement-- or the waiver
wire."Some players have had a specific injury and never Brian
Orakpo Authentic Jersey recovered,"said Dr. Ronald P. Grelsamer, associate
professor of orthopedicsurgery at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. "You have
others whohad Albert

4percentage points not as good as they were before. And after a fewyears and a
few injuries, those percentage points have added up tomaybe 20 percent, and
someone has come out of college who is 100percent of who they are."The sudden
specific injuries get all the headlines, but theday-to-day repetitive trauma
that makes your tissues more leatheryalso do damage. A lot of injuries are quiet
injuries that go underthe radar."The injuries add up over the course of the
season, when largebodies collide at high speeds week after week. And as the
playerscontinue to get bigger and faster, the collisions get increasinglymore
violent."Energy is mass times velocity squared. The more you weigh andthe faster
you go, the bigger the impact," Grelsamer said. Some players may get injured, but
nearly all play hurt.Snee compared football to 60 minutes of fighting. During
theseason, even a firm handshake can be painful for Authentic
Chris Johnson Jersey the 6-foot-3,317-pound lineman. And no one who plays in
the NFL is completely healthy - or everwill be again, according to giants
defensive end OsiUmenyiora."I haven't been 100 percent since [college]," he
said."Everybody in the NFL, there's no player who's played over a yearwho
physically will ever feel 100 percent ever again."But players do it because they
love the game and because themoney they earn may have to support them later in
life."It's sort of the running joke, 'Man, wait til we're 55.' Butthat's why we
get paid a lot of money," Tollefson said. "We'regetting paid for maybe something
we might go through in the future. What's going to happen when we're 45, 50 years
old and maybe Ican't do a job that someone else can do? I'm making that money
nowbecause I'm going to need it on the back end."That's why some players are
fanatical about injury management, warning that letting Authentic
Aaron Curry Jersey something as innocent as an ankle sprain gountreated is
asking for trouble.Tollefson and Canty do Andre

through soreness and build their muscles back up. And like therest of their

their livelihoods in a league where just apercentage of contracts are guaranteed
and where Pro Bowlers canget released simply for getting hurt - as long-time
giants offensive line stalwartsShaun O'Hara and Rich Seubert unexpectedly
discovered in July.So many torture themselves in the off-season to prepare for
therigors of the season."When you've been through surgeries like me and you've
gotscrews and a cleaned out ankle and both feet, it's kind of tough,"running
back Ahmad Bradshaw said. "I beat myself up in theoff-season to where I can
stand the pain."Players also seek methods to avoid Authentic

general populationfor retired players, according to a recent study.giants punter
Steve Weatherford, receiver Hakeem Nicks and linebacker Michael Boley use a

thing worse than playing hurt is notplaying at all."You can never replace that
team feeling, going out there andworking together, all striving for one goal,"
Snee said. "Youdefinitely feel out of place [on the
sidelines]."
SCHOTTY HANDLES CRITICS WITH CLASS, JUST LIKE DAD 12:56 AM ETEAST
RUTHERFORD - Brian Schottenheimer learned his lesson earlyin life - being a
coach means being criticized. What once wasdirected at his father, former NFL
coach Marty, now comes at him asJets offensive coordinator. As the unit he
coaches sputtered and coughed its way into thesixth game of the season Monday
night against Miami, a 24-6 Jets' victory, Schottenheimer'sonce-budding
reputation has stalled Randall
Cobb Jersey Authentic as well. But rather than usinghis time or energy to
respond to critics who lambaste hisplay-calling and stew over the Jets' 29th
overall offensive rankingheading into Monday night, Schottenheimer remembers how
it felt tohave a ringside seat to the craziness. And he remembers how wellhis
dad deflected the barbs."A long time ago, I'll never forget, we were at
breakfast oneday after the [Kansas City Chiefs] lost [to the
Dolphins],"Schottenheimer recalled the other day. "Nick Lowery missed like
a50-yard field goal. And we were at the breakfast table and someguys were
talking about the game and talking about, 'Boy, MartySchottenheimer, he doesn't
know what he's doing. That guy's abozo,' this and that. And so my mom and I and
[my] sister were kindof stewing, like, 'Can you believe this?' "His dad said
nothing, but what happened next has stayed withBrian in a much stronger way than
any words."All my dad did when we were done [was] he walked over andintroduced
himself. He said, 'How are you doing? I'm MartySchottenheimer. I don't take
myself too seriously. I do the best Ican,' Authentic
Randall Cobb Jersey " Brian said. "The guy sent him like a five-page letter
inthe mail apologizing. 'I didn't know you were there. I'm sorry.Thank you for
what you've done in Kansas City.'"All you can do is handle yourself with class.
I think my fatherdid that."In today's 24/7 news-cycle world, Brian
Schottenheimer needsmore than those old-school coping methods to survive. With
theexplosion of television, sports-talk radio and social media outletsgiving
experts Randall
Cobb Jersey and fans countless platforms to hurl opinions, thecircus has
grown exponentially. Now the son is the target, smack inthe middle of the
biggest ring. And now the question is whetherhe'll ever get the chance to be his
own ringmaster. It was only two years ago that Schottenheimer turned down achance
to interview for the head coaching opening in Buffalo, choosing instead to
continue working with Jets coach Rex Ryan, the architectof New York's defense.
Schottenheimer wanted to finish the SuperBowl work he was confident would be
completed with the Jets long before it would with afranchise that -- at the time
-- represented the dregs of the AFCEast. But here's the cruel reality of the NFL
coaching fraternity.Windows open slowly, but close quickly. What once seemed
inevitable for a hot young assistant coach witha famous last name and a strong
family legacy has taken a sharpturn onto a cold and lonely road without a clear
destination. Ahead coaching job seems awfully far away now, lost in a haze
ofslow starts, inconsistent play and, lately, reports of in-housegrumbling. With
play-calling that won't seem to commit itself tothe ground-and-pound philosophy
Green
Bay Packers Randall Cobb Jersey Ryan is loyal to or the
air-it-outaggressiveness Santonio Holmes complains doesn't happen
enough,Schottenheimer is caught playing tug of war with himself. And he never
stops hearing about it."In all reality, it comes with the territory," he said.
"I dothe best I can. This staff works our tails off. We have to be
moreconsistent. And when you're not winning games and there are thingsyou're
missing, you're going to take heat in the position I'm in.... I think the first
year or two on the job you kind of [say],'Boy, that's unfair.' But again, I
think I've probably had alifestyle of learning about it. For the last couple of
years, Ijust realized it's a long season. It's a marathon."Yet the Jets' offense
under Schottenheimer'sdirection is running out of room to catch up. The
three-game losingstreak heading into Monday night's game had to be halted, and
asmuch as Ryan's defense needs to shore itself up against the run,it's up to the
offense to get this team moving. Despite Ryan'sprofessed encouragement over
signs of improvement during lastweek's loss at New England, the offense left the
field inthree-and-out disappointment seven times in 11 possessions. And despite
Holmes' public stance that more downfield shotswould come with better offensive
line play - an assertion thatthreatens to tear at the very fabric of the locker
room - veteranrunning back LaDainian Tomlinson believes it's merely a demand
forbetter execution. If players did their jobs better, Schottenheimerwould look
better, too."It's unfair, because he's not the one that's out there throwingthe
ball, catching it, running it, blocking," Tomlinson said. "Hecan't do any of
that."What he can do is rely on the lessons of his life, the ones hisfather
lived."It's funny, because I used to be on the other side of it. Iused to be the
guy in school getting in fights with kids talkingabout my dad, and now you sit
there and you worry about your kidsand stuff," Schottenheimer said. "The thing I
took from New
England Patriots Albert Haynesworth Jersey him, you dothe best you can; you
have trust in yourself and what you're doing. You stay true to yourself, and if
you do that, at the end of theday, you have that to fall back on."E-mail: sullivan@northjersey.com

MattSchaub threw for 416 yards in the 25-20 loss to Oakland and cameaway with a
sore right shoulder that got some rest and rehab lastweek. Expect Schaub to
target TEs Owen Daniels and Joel Dreessenagain as well as Kevin Walter. Jacoby
Jones needs to get the balland make some big plays. The linemen have to give
Schaub time tothrow against a pass rush led by Terrell Suggs, who leads
theRavens with four sacks. DT Haloti Ngata may be the best in theleague at his
position. He collapses the pocket and usuallyrequires two blockers. It'll be
interesting to see if the Texans try to attack SS BernardPollard when he's on
the field.Advantage: TexansTexans' running game vs. Ravens'run defensecomment:
The Texans showed against Oakland theirrunning game can be shut down. The
Raiders entered the gameallowing 5.9 yards a carry. The Ravens allow 3.2 yards a
carry. They rank second against the run. For the first time this season, the
Texans have all three backshealthy. Ideally, Arian Foster touches the ball at
least 25 times.Ben New
England Patriots Chad Ochocinco Authentic Jersey Tate is the backup. They'd
like to get him the ball eight to 10times. Coach Gary Kubiak said Derrick Ward
will play for the firsttime since he suffered a sprained ankle in the first
game. Ifthey're going to run the ball successfully, they'll have to controlMLB
Ray Lewis and DT Haloti Ngata, both of whom are Pro Bowl runstuffers.Advantage:
RavensComparing special teamscomment: If the Texans activate WR TrindonHolliday,
he could return kickoffs and punts to give DaniealManning (27.5 yard average)

enough for the Texans to be 4-1, allowing 314yards a game, including 208.2
against the pass. They have 15 sacks, but they're missing their best pass rusher
in OLB Mario Williams. He'll be replaced by rookie Brooks Reed, a second-round

a lot of criticism for completing only 49.3 percent. Hisaverage per attempt is
only 6.95 yards. RB Ray Rice and TE EdDickson are tied for the team lead with 16

prefer to get their pressure from the frontseven, especially the linemen.
Antonio Smith has a sack in four ofthe five games.Advantage: TexansRavens'
running game vs. Texans' run defensecomment: The Texans did an outstanding job
ofshutting down the Raiders' league-leading running game, includingthe leading

who average 123.8 yards rushing. Ray Riceis capable of scoring any time he gets

also don'twant him bursting through the line and getting on the second

quarter. Jackson got a trap block from fullback CoreyMcIntyre and ran up the
middle, to the right, to the left and backto the right for an 80-yard
touchdown. The run tied for the fourth longest in Bills history. The last Bills
back to run 80 yards for ascore was Thurman Green

Roosevelt caught a 12-yard throw from Ryan Fitzpatrickand turned it into a
60-yard scoring play. It put the Bills ahead, 14-7, with 24 secondsleft in the
quarter.Key plays: A 24-yard pass from Eli Manning to tight end JakeBallard set
up the Giants at the Bills' 1, and Ahmad Bradshaw plungedover for the touchdown
to open the scoring.Good isolation: The Giants got Bradshaw singled up on Bills
linebacker Andra Davis comingout of the backfield to get a 17-yard pass play on
their scoringdrive.KO choice: The Bills opted to defer the choiceafter winning
the opening coin toss.***SECOND QUARTER: Nicks shows knackIn hindsight, Hakeem
Nicks wasn't much of a gamble when he wastaken with the 29th pick in the 2009
NFL draft, even though he leftcollege a year early.Nicks gave the University of
North Carolina great production inhis shortened career. He finished with a
school-record 21 touchdowncatches. He had 68 catches for 1,222 yards and 12 TDs
as a junior. He had a catch in 26 straight games and caught a pass in 35 of
36career games. Albert

second quarter when he gotbehind Drayton Florence for a 60-yard catch down the
left sidelineto the Buffalo 5. It set up New York for a 1-yard TD run by
AhmadBradshaw.Nicks had a breakout season last year, catching 79 passes with11
TDs.Key plays: Rian Lindell kicked a 49-yard field goal with 39seconds left to
tie the game, 17-17. New York got a 26-yard fieldgoal by Lawrence Tynes early in
the quarter.***THIRD QUARTER: Running revivalThe Giants were out to revive their
running game this week. NewYork ranked sixth in rushing last year but 28th
through five weeksand averaging just 3.2 yards a carry.Ahmad Bradshaw helped
break the slump with his third rushingtouchdown of the game in the third
quarter. It was a 1-yard plungethat capped a 10-play, 75-yard march and gave the
Giants a 24-17lead. Bradshaw, who gained 104 yards, credited Eli
Manning'spassing with making it easier to run."Eli did a great job today,"
Bradshaw said. "He opened Authentic

heels a little bit andwe were able to run it."Key plays: Corey Webster
intercepted a deep pass for StevieJohnson at the Giants' 27. Alex Carrington
blocked a 50-yardfield-goal try by the Giants.Key replay: Manning threw a pretty
pass on a post pattern to theend zone for Mario Manningham, but Terrence McGee
made a fine playto rake the ball out of the receiver's hands as he hit the
ground. The Giants challenged the ruling. It was close. But the incompletecall
was upheld.***FOURTH QUARTER: Webster spells disasterCorey Webster is a Bills
killer. The seventh-year defensive back got his second interception ofthe game to
stop a great Bills scoring chance with 4:02left. Webster made the grab while
covering Stevie Johnson at the Bills' 5.Webster, a second-round pick in 2005,
saw his career turn aroundstarting with a game in Buffalo the second last week
of the regularseason in 2007. He had a 34-yard interception return for
atouchdown in a 38-21 Giants comeback win. He started from thatpoint on and
played great in the playoffs that year, helping theGiants to the Super Bowl
title."We didn't start off well early on in the game, giving them twobig plays,
but other than that we kept fighting," Webster said.Key play: Johnson caught a
Green
Bay Packers Nick Collins Jersey 9-yard TD pass with 8:57 left to tiethe
game, 24-24.Second-guess: The Bills were at the New York 27 with4:10 left when

it safeand not thrown for the Albert

Eagles trade Brown, reacquire Harrison 6:27 AM ETIF THE
CALENDAR says mid-October, the Eagles must have just traded forJerome
Harrison.Harrison, a 28-year-old running back, arrived in a deal withDetroit

NFL trade deadline yesterday, a yearand 5 days after coming to the Eagles in a
similar trade fromCleveland. This time, the disappointing free-agent signee

pretty muchthe same player, except Bell never tried to throw the ball whilebeing
swarmed at the goal line, only LeSean
McCoy Authentic Jersey to end up fumbling away pointsin a 24-23 loss the way
Brown did Oct. 2 against the 49ers."He fits a zone [blocking] scheme. He has
good vision, instincts, runs downhill, and has quick feet," Eagles general
manager Howie Rosemansaid when asked about Harrison by the team website. "He's a
greatcharacter guy and will do whatever we ask him to do. He can catchthe
football. We're really excited about him joining LeSean McCoyand Dion Lewis."The
Eagles liked Harrison last year, much more than they liked Bell, but after
gaining 239 yards on only40 Eagles carries, 6 yards a pop,Harrison wanted to
sign in free agency with a team that might givehim more opportunities than he
seemed destined for with thepass-happy Eagles, playing behind emerging
starLeSean McCoy.The Birds signed Brown, the former Dolphins star, and
Harrisonended up with the Lions, where he didn't get the kind of work hemight
have expected. Harrison managed only 14 carries for 41yards."I didn't know if
somebody was playing or not, but then once Irealized it was serious, I was like
'cool,' you know, play for agreat coach, great organization," Harrison told the
Eagles' website. "The week off willbe huge to get back in the playbook and start
hearing theterminology again. I have been checking out the Eagles to Authentic

excited to be back."Brown, 29, the Jeremy

the "Dream Team" free-agent splurge of last summer, albeit asmall part, along
with such already-departed names as tight endDonald Lee and wideout Johnnie Lee

Eagles seemed reluctant to use himin the short-yardage job Nnamdi
Asomugha Authentic Jersey fans envisioned, and Brown seemed slowerthan
advertised. He gained 38 yards on 13 carries.Eagles fans might have been
hopingfor bigger Michael

reports that the Birds made it clear cornerback Asante Samuelwas available, as
he has been since the acquisition of Jeremy

Brandon Graham presumably coming off the physically unableto perform list within
a few weeks, the Eagles probably were interested injettisoning a defensive end,
but that didn't happen, either. There were reports that the Raiders checked out
Eagles quarterback Vince Youngbefore acquiring Carson Palmer from the Bengals
for a first-roundpick and a second-rounder that apparently can become a
first. For more Eagles coverage and opinion, readthe Daily News' Eagles blog,

confined to the press box during hisrecovery, which is expected to take three to
six months, meaningthe Saints (4-2) will have to adjust quickly."He's just got a
kind of presence and moxie that when you're onthe sideline you look for," guard
Carl Nicks said. "He's yellingand he's calling the plays. He's getting everybody

ground."They took the ball away four times, which if you do that you'regoing to
win a lot of games," Brees said. "We gave it away fourtimes. The fact of the
matter is that will get you beat."The Saints forced the only turnover in their
Super Bowl victorywith Tracy Porter's 74-yard interception return for a
touchdownthat all but put the game away. Payton also made the bold decisionto
call for an onside kick to begin the second half, which NewOrleans
recovered. That led to one of Brees' two touchdown passes during his SuperBowl
MVP performance, but he was intercepted twice during his lastregular-season
matchup with the Colts, a 41-10 Indianapolis routSept. 6, 2007.Manning had 288

{csid:"ux-cms-en-us-sports"});Less than two weeks after Davis died, his coach,
Hue Jackson, now in complete control of the Raiders, made the trade Tuesday. He
got Palmer, the QB he had wanted all year but couldn’t get Davis to
bring in.The need hadn’t been there. The desperation wasn’t
there, as the Raiders finally were looking good again. Then quarterback Jason
Campbell broke his collarbone. And Jackson, running wild while free of Davis,
gave up way too much for an aging quarterback with a bum elbow.Palmer had lost
his desire after fading for three years, and chose to retire this season rather
than play for Cincinnati again. But the Bengals still held his rights. So they
got something big for nothing. That’s the best deal Jackson could
cut.If Davis were still here, would he have made this trade?Hell yes. He would
have loved it, risking everything, selling off the future for now, now, now. In
fact, in some ways, this trade comes off as a tribute to him.And it’s
funny seeing some analysts say stuff like that, because I think they mean it as
an insult to Davis, Jackson and Palmer all in one. It’s as if
they’re Joe
Flacco Jersey Authentic saying, “Yes, Davis would have made a
crazy deal like that for a washed-up player. That’s why the Raiders
have been such a joke for so long.’’But they Ed

Woodson Jersey Authentic got older, he lost his way. He didn’t
know how to do it anymore. He became too enamored with just getting the best
athlete, no matter what Ed
Reed Jersey Authentic else went with that. He didn’t care how the
pieces fit together, and whether that talent came with brains or responsibility,
or whether it showed up half an hour late to practice or with a mug shot.Davis
couldn’t understand the concept that some players today
won’t do every last thing to win, that winning isn’t the
only thing to them, or even the most important thing. He couldn’t even
recognize it, couldn’t connect with
it.
Randall Cobb Authentic Jersey game of the year Sunday
things just go your way. That hasn't been the case often this season for the
Eagles. But on Sunday, the kind ofbounces, Randall
Cobb Jersey tips, and calls that so often conspired against themturned in
their favor, and so did the final score. No Eagle had a clear explanation forthe
change in luck, but they all welcomed the development."You've just got to get
some stuff to bounce your waysometimes," wide receiver Jason Avant said. "It's
great when itdoes."Take this drive from the second quarter: On first and 10
fromhis own 47-yard-line, quarterback Michael Vick found tight endBrent Celek
open - only Celek batted the ball into the air asdefenders closed in on him.
Reaching back, he tipped it againbefore making the catch. In recent weeks, that
kind of play turned into momentum-changinginterceptions. Against the Bills a
week ago, Avant joked that itseemed that if 10 defenders were on one side of the
field, a tippedpass still would find the lone man on the other side. This
time, though, Celek showed incredible focus to bring the ball down."Brent's play,
the juggling catch, was a great way to describethe concentration we had New
England Patriots Albert Haynesworth Authentic Jersey in the first half,"
Avant said. The Eagles were sharper and moreaggressive overall. That helped in
some cases.Four plays after Celek's catch, Vick threw a swing pass towardJeremy
Maclin, but the ball was batted high into the air. Again, itlooked like a
turnover waiting to happen. Instead, Maclin pursuedthe ball and caught it. The
Green
Bay Packers Randall Cobb Jersey Eagles got a field goal. This all came after
an early drive on which a shotgun snapintended for running back LeSean McCoy
sailed high into the Eagles' end zone. Vick raced toretrieve the ball and throw
it away and was hit in the head bylinebacker Rocky McIntosh. A near disaster
turned into a 15-yardgain on a roughing-the-passer penalty and a first down. The
Eagles drove for a touchdown. For once, the other team was making the silly
mistakes that ledto points. And though one Vick pass that was tipped was Randall
Cobb Jersey Authentic picked off,the ball more often caromed the Eagles'
way.The turnaround is a reminder that for all the film study andlate-night
planning that goes New
England Patriots Albert Haynesworth Jersey into each game, there are
elementsthat can't be controlled. Players just have to control how theyreact to
them."That's football," defensive tackle Cullen Jenkins said."Sometimes they

Jim Harbaugh Green

Haynesworth Jersey Authentic antidote.Still, a man can get carried away, and
in the wake of the SteelCage Handshake, also known as the Schmodown in Motown,
the judgmenthere is that Harbaugh went too far when he broke out the
joybuzzer. That must have been what Harbaugh used on Lions head coach
JimSchwartz. You know, the joke gadget that you hide in your palm, giving a
hilarious surprise buzz to the handshakee? I found thebuzzer for sale online for
$2.49. It's a classic staple of thesurprise-humor genre, along with the whoopee
cushion and plasticdog poop. What else could have gotten such a rise out of
Schwartz? Heseems like such an easygoing, laid-back guy. There could be fallout
from Shakegate. NFL Commissioner RogerGoodell might declare a moratorium on
postgame handshakes betweencoaches.Commish, before you do that, think of the
kids who take theirbehavior cues from Authentic
Nick Collins Jersey what they see on TV. If they can't watchfootball coaches
shaking hands after games, where will our nation'syouth learn to express the
false sincerity they'll need to besuccessful adults?Every sport has a unique
postgame ritual. A quick overview:-- Baseball: Just about the only sport where
the losers arerequired to slink off the field and not interact with the
winners. The opposing managers don't even make eye contact with oneanother. The
winning team's players saunter onto the field and form ahigh-five line, except
for the Boston Red Sox, who skip thecelebration and hurry back to the clubhouse
so as not to miss lastcall.-- Basketball: Random milling of players from the two
teams, with informal exchanging of bro-hugs soul shake with lean-inshoulder-bump
and back-slap. The coaches sometimes shake hands withone another and compare
notes on their tailors.-- Hockey: After playoff games, teams line up and players
seemto be shaking hands, although actually they are giving back teeththey've
acquired during the game. The coaches shake hands with oneanother and exchange
wholesale jerseys from china a few words
in Canadian.-- Soccer: Players mill about, trading sweaty jerseys. Someplayers
shake hands with their foes, then fall down and act as ifthey've been trampled
by buffaloes, because you can't just flip aswitch to turn on and off that
behavior. If there's a theme in the above, it's that over the years sportshas
gotten too chummy. Baseball has a rule against fraternizationwith players of the
opposing team, but the rule is as ignored asbasketball's traveling
violation. Before the Cardinals-Brewers NLCS series, because there was somebad
blood between the teams, MLB brought both managers together fora private
meeting, apparently to lay down some Emily Post rules ofetiquette. It's sad that
in a sport that traditionally thrives Green
Bay Packers Nick Collins Jersey onsnarling dislike between teams, the
sport's leaders would want todull down the fun. That's probably one reason the
49ers' players and fans respond toHarbaugh. He has some rough edges and some
antisocial tendenciesthat make the whole deal more intriguing.Handshake Harbaugh
did a terrible job Sunday of hiding hiscontempt for the coach who, only hours
earlier, had been shoutingderisively at him from across the field. Did Schwartz
not realizethe game was televised?Harbaugh, asked Monday if he might need to
tone down some of hisbehavior, said, "I'll personally attempt to get better at
thepostgame handshake."That's admirable, but it won't be easy. Exuberance is
hard tocurb. The 49ers' PR staff will work withHarbaugh, suiting up
public-relations boss Bob Lange in catcher'sgear to serve as the coach's
handshake sparring partner. To explain to Harbaugh how innocent gestures
sometimes can bemisinterpreted or blown out of proportion, the PR staff will
showhim video of last month's fight in which Floyd Mayweather Jr. tapsVictor
Ortiz twice in the cheek during a break, knocking him coldwhile trying to say,
"Let's get back to work!"Schwartz complained in his Monday news conference that
Harbaughhad violated football "protocol."Harbaugh is no Rex Ryan. The 49ers'
head coach isn'tintentionally hogging the spotlight, either for self-promotion
orto take pressure off his players. Harbaugh is like Garth Brooks inthe song
"Low Places" - "Well I'm not big on social graces ..."But if someone were to
take poll of all the NFL players in thewake of The Handshake and ask, "Which
coach would you rather playfor, Harbaugh or Schwartz?" Harbaugh wins by a
landslide." That's probably one reason the 49ers' players and fans Nick

antisocial tendenciesthat make the whole deal more intriguing."
Panthers could switch to 3-4 defense at some point 4:02 PM
ETCHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP)The Panthers are thinking about changing up how they line
up ondefense.Carolina showed a new wrinkle on Nick
Collins Jersey Authentic Sunday against the AtlantaFalcons, lining up in a
3-4 defense for the first time under newcoach Ron Rivera. It was only for three
plays, but the 3-4 lookcould become a more permanent Carolina fixture down the
road.It wouldn't be a surprise. Rivera ran the 3-4 last year workingas the
defensive coordinator for the San Diego Chargers and thatunit finished first in
the league in total defense.Panthers defensive coordinator Sean McDermott said
it's tooearly to know if he'll use the 3-4 scheme next season, noting thatmight
include some personnel changes to better fit the defense.''We have to see how
comfortable the players are and also youlook at your opponents in the division
and outside of thedivision,'' McDermott said. However, McDermott made it clear
the Panthers would like to movetoward becoming a full-time 3-4 defense.''Ron and
I have gotten together on it over the summer and it'ssomething we wanted to
evolve to, so we're going to have that inthe game plan (this year) whether we
use it or not,'' McDermottsaid.McDermott believes the 3-4 alignment might be the
best way todefend NFL teams in the coming years because of the type ofathletes
coming out of college.''You're seeing more hybrid type guys with the tight ends,
whichare more wideouts now,'' McDermott said. Authentic
Green Bay Packers Nick Collins Jersey ''You're seeing the samething on the
defensive side with 3-4 type defenses. You take adefensive end that isn't a true
defensive end in terms of (weight)and they're going to let him come off the edge
once inawhile.''On Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons, the Panthers lined up
inthe 3-4 look for three plays. They used Ron Fields at nose tackle sandwiched in
between endsTerrell McClain and Greg Hardy. Dan Connor and James Anderson
werethe middle linebackers, allowing Charles Johnson and AntwanApplewhite to
stand up at outside linebacker.Applewhite, who was brought in two weeks ago
because theflexibility he offers, played outside linebacker last year forRivera
in San Diego, but he's one of the few Carolina defenders whohave played that
style.''It's a new concept here, so it's something you have to rep tomake sure
everybody is on the same page,'' Applewhite said. ''Thecouple of plays were ran
it, it did all right. One play they got abig run off of it when a guy wasn't in
the right gap. That'ssomething where you look at the film and then fix it
inpractice.''Applewhite believes the Panthers have what it takes to run the3-4
scheme.''I feel like we have the personnel New
England Patriots Chad Ochocinco Authentic Jersey here to do it,''
Applewhitesaid. ''You just need outside linebackers that can set the edge
anddisrupt. Charles Johnson is a multi-talented player. It's somethinghe should
be able to do quite well.''The Panthers added two big nose tackles after the
start of theseason, signing free agent Ron Fields and claiming Frank Kearse
offwaivers. That helps give the Panthers some flexibility upfront.''We have some
players to work with there and that's a good signfor us,'' McDermott
said.Johnson, the team's highest-paid player and leader in sacks, said he thought
it was ''cool'' to get a chance Albert
Haynesworth Authentic Jersey to stand up andrush from the outside.''You get
to see things just by standing up,'' he said. ''It wasall right. We only ran it
a couple of times, but you can rush thepasser a little bit better just by
standing up because you can seeit better.''So how much will the Panthers use the
3-4 defense over the final10 games?McDermott, whose coaching background is in
the 4-3 defense, saidthat largely depends on how the Panthers progress with
learning thescheme and whether or not it fits their personnel.''I know he feels
very confident in the 3-4 and what it bringsto the table and knows it's
strengths and weaknesses and that'spart of the reason quite frankly that I came
down here (fromPhiladelphia) Nick
Collins Authentic Jersey so we could merge our systems together,''
McDermottsaid. ''And I think in due time you will see that and you will seethe
effectiveness of both the 4-3 and 3-4.''
6:36 PM ETReady or not, here the Washington Redskins come.Coaches and almost
90 players spent the last 17 days cramming anentire offseason's worth of player
acquisitions, practicerepetitions and film study sessions before the product
goes ondisplay Friday night in Nnamdi
Asomugha Jersey Authentic the Redskins' preseason opener againstthe
Pittsburgh Steelers at FedEx Field. The four-month NFL lockout has forced all Michael

their progressagainst an opponent for the first time."It's weird that we're
playing," defensive coordinator JimHaslett said. "It doesn't seem like Jeremy
Maclin Authentic Jersey there should be a game in suchshort a time. From
that standpoint, I'm looking forward to seeinghow those guys interact with each
other."The compressed calendar makes this game much more intriguingthan the
usual preseason opener.Several veterans acquired in the past two weeks are
expected tomake their Redskins debuts, along with 12 draftpicks. Washington's
starting quarterback competition will begin toplay out, and returning players
can show what they learned fromcoach Mike Shanahan's 6-10 debut
season.Quarterback Rex Grossman is the headliner. John Beck'savailability is
doubtful because of a strained groin that limitedhim in practice all week, so
Grossman should get the first crack atproving himself worthy of the starting
job.He started the final three games last season and finished with apasser
rating of 81.2 - the best season-ending mark of hiseight-year career. It's a
minuscule sample size but large enough toinstill self-confidence."I feel like I
have a good understanding of the offense and whatKyle [Shanahan, the offensive
coordinator] is asking me to do,"Grossman said. "I fully understand the verbiage
and all that. It'sjust getting my body and my mind to go through the
progressions asI need."Grossman has said he expects to play at least into the
secondquarter. Because the Redskins will need to see Beck playwhen he is healthy
in the coming weeks, Grossman must takeadvantage of an extended opportunity
against Pittsburgh's veterandefense."I have high expectations ... but I do
understand that some ofthese guys are a little bit more rusty than you would
expect, andthat comes when they don't have the reps," Kyle Shanahan
said."Everyone's reps are at least cut in half, missing those 14 OTAdays. It
will be a new experience for all of us."Several other offensive elements warrant
monitoring, as well. The Redskins are debuting a reworkedoffensive line with
former guard Will Montgomery starting at centerand free agent Chris Chester
starting at right guard. The competition at receiver is particularly intense.
Washingtondrafted three receivers, traded for veteran Jabar Gaffney andsigned
free agent Donte' Stallworth. Three new faces at runningback are veteran Tim
Hightower and draft picks Roy Helu and EvanRoyster."Last year, we kind of knew
who our guys were ... and the depthwasn't there," Kyle Shanahan Authentic
DeSean Jackson Jersey said. "I think we've got better depththis year.
There's going to be some competition in there from thefirst quarter all the way
to the fourth."On defense, nose tackle Barry Cofield is one of four
projectedstarters acquired via free agency in the offseason. Right defensiveend
Stephen Bowen and cornerback Josh Nnamdi
Asomugha Authentic Jersey Wilson are expected to play.Safety Oshiomogho
Atogwe's Redskins debut might have to waitbecause of a hamstring
injury.First-round pick Ryan Authentic
LeSean McCoy Jersey Kerrigan will play for the first time atleft outside Jeremy
Maclin Jersey Authentic linebacker after playing defensive end in
college.Considering all the new parts, the defense needs these preseasongames to
jell. For Cofield, it's a matter of mastering his newresponsibilities. He came
from the New York Giants' 4-3 defense;now he's playing a new position in a
3-4."You understand that your technique and certain things may notbe there, but
your effort and your mentality and youraggressiveness have to be there,
regardless," he said. "It may notbe perfect, but as long as guys are flying
around and playing hard,I think we'll be happy."
Bengals can move on without Palmer 6:32 PM ETCINCINNATI (AP)By
trading their franchise quarterback, the Cincinnati Bengalscan finally move
on.The Bengals ended nine months of uncertainty Tuesday when theydealt Carson
Palmer to Oakland for a pair of draft picks. Palmertold the Bengals in January
that he wouldn't play for them againand he wanted a trade, something that owner
Mike Brown hadadamantly refused.Shortly before the trading deadline, Brown did
an about-face andtraded Palmer for first-round and second-round picks, a better
dealthan they'd expected for the 31-year-old quarterback. Coach MarvinLewis
indicated he would have preferred trading Palmer earlier, butBrown wasn't ready
until the Raiders' offer came along.''My boss is a very patient man,'' Lewis
said. ''Don't want toplay poker with him, do you?''The Bengals can move ahead
without having to account for Palmerin the budget. They had to set aside money
to account for hissalary should DeSean
Jackson Jersey he change his mind and show up to play. Palmer had abase
salary of $11.5 million this season, with three more yearsleft on his
deal.Instead of saving budget space, the Bengals can try to extenddeals with
other current players.''Now we open up some other doors,'' Lewis said. ''There
hasbeen a lot written about, oh, you guys have this much (salary) capspace, but
we had to have that Authentic
Nnamdi Asomugha Jersey space stay in there because ifCarson were to walk in
here, we had to be able to handlethat.''The deal had little impact on his wholesale nfl
jerseys former teammates, who knew hewasn't coming back when he told the
team in January that he wouldretire rather than play Authentic
Michael Vick Jersey another season in Cincinnati. The Bengalshave only two
winning records in the last 20 years. The message board by the LeSean
McCoy Authentic Jersey entrance to the Bengals' locker roomTuesday had an
anonymous scrawled message: ''Let My PeopleGoooooo!'' Otherwise, there wasn't
much reaction.''I don't think even one player in this locker room's eventhought
about that,'' left tackle Andrew Whitworth said. ''Wehaven't worried Michael
Vick Authentic Jersey about it. We've gone forward with the guys we haveand
tried to play as good as we can and that's all we can do.''Palmer's former
teammates were glad that he finally received hiswish. Palmer was the first
overall pick in 2003 and led Cincinnatito those two winning seasons, only to
have his career interruptedby knee and elbow injuries.''Kudos to Carson,''
offensive lineman Bobbie Williams said.''Just good luck to everybody. I don't
know about the details, butwhatever it is, I'm pretty sure we got what we
wanted, he got whathe wanted and we'll go from there.''I'm happy with where
we're at. I hope he's happy with wherehe's at. Good luck to him. I mean, who
knows?''Williams smiled at the possibility of facing Palmer's Raiders inthe Authentic
Jeremy Maclin Jersey playoffs.''You never know,'' he said.Backup quarterback
Bruce Gradkowski, a former Raider, saidPalmer fits Oakland's offensive
style.''It's going to be a good situation,'' Gradkowski said. ''Theorganization
is going in the right direction out there, and it'sgood for Carson to get back
and playing some football. Theydefinitely have some talent, and those receivers
can run. We're nottoo focused on that around here.''Lewis said that rookie
quarterback Andy Dalton's solid play inthe first six games made Brown more
comfortable with tradingPalmer. Dalton said on Tuesday that he never felt like
hisperformance would figure in what happened with Palmer.''I knew coming in here
that he wasn't going to be here and thatthe job was going to be open,'' Dalton
said. ''It's nothing thatI've worried about.''Palmer's former teammates said
they hold no grudges.''I think guys respect him,'' Whitworth said. ''You realize
thathe didn't want to be here and he didn't believe in this place, andyou go
forward. You still respect him as a friend and the years weput in together, but
you realize that he just made a choice he feltwas best for him and his
family.''Lewis appreciated the way Palmer pressed his case for a tradebehind the
scenes, avoiding media interviews and publicposturing.''I think Carson has
handled this like the man he DeSean
Jackson Authentic Jersey is,'' Lewissaid, ''and that's been great.''

Miami Dolphins' all-time leader in receiving yardage, No.2 in receptions and
No. 3 in receiving touchdowns, Mark Duper knowsabout playing the position. So
when some of Leonard Hankerson'suncles learned that their employer was a close
friend of Duper's,they asked if the three-time Pro Bowler would tutor the
youngwideout, a rising junior at Miami."When I first started working with him,
the talent, mentalityand the ability to play football was Authentic
Joe Flacco Jersey there," Duper said recently."But an athlete needs
guidance. He needed to learn how to Charles
Woodson Authentic Jersey practiceproperly. He needed to learn how to
position his hands. He learnedhow to develop himself as a ballplayer."Hankerson,
the Redskins' third-round draft pick inApril, was underwhelming during his first
two years with theHurricanes. But after working hard with Duper and youth coach
JackDoucett - his uncles' employer - Hankerson departed among Miami'stop five
receivers Ed
Reed Authentic Jersey in career yardage, receptions andtouchdowns.Entering
Friday's preseason opener against visiting Pittsburgh,Hankerson yearns to prove
he belongs among names such as AndreJohnson, Reggie Wayne, Michael Irvin and
now-teammate SantanaMoss.Eight receivers were drafted ahead of Hankerson. The
Redskins selected two more afterhim, Niles Paul and Aldrick Robinson. Then came
the addition of twoveterans, Jabar Gaffney and Donte Stallworth. And just to be
safe, the team also signed undrafted wideout Issac Anderson."That's part of the
NFL," said Hankerson, who has dazzled attimes during training camp. "Everyone
wants to win and everyone'sgoing to do what it takes. As soon as you sign, they
go out and tryto find someone better."Hankerson's determination to improve was a
driving factor afterhe totaled Authentic
Charles Woodson Jersey 17 catches for 203 yards and three touchdowns -
anddeveloped a reputation for untimely drops - entering his juniorseason. Duper
and Doucett put him through concentration drills andworkouts that were posted to
YouTube. Whenever Duper couldn't makeit, Hankerson insisted on continuing the
program with Doucett. Abreakout junior year convinced Hankerson to bypass the
draft andredouble his effort."We had a goal of catching 10,000 balls over the
summer beforehis senior year, and he did it," said Doucett, a lifelong Redskins
fan who Ray
Rice Jersey Authentic hosted Hankerson'sdraft party and adorned him in the
Redskins' cap and Joe Theismannjersey that appeared in photos."We worked even
harder, sometimes twice a week," Doucett said."The Miami coaches invited me in
to work out with him as much as wewanted. We set goals of 60 catches, 1,100
yards and ninetouchdowns, and he surpassed them."To be precise, Hankerson capped
his college career with 72receptions, 1,156 yards and a single-season record 13
TDs. Hefinally was maximizing the athleticism and Joe
Flacco Authentic Jersey potential displayed atFort Lauderdale's St. Thomas
Aquinas High, where another notedwideout - Cris Carter - was his position
coach."When I first got to college, I Ed
Reed Jersey Authentic thought it was going to be a loteasier than it was,"
said Hankerson, explaining his slow start. "Itwas tough going Ray
Lewis Authentic Jersey up and competing against everyone. I wasn't
reallystaying after practice for extra work. I Authentic
Ray Rice Jersey had the ability, but I hadto catch a lot of extra
balls."Hankerson typically stays on the field with others afterpractice to work
with Redskins receivers coach KeenanMcCardell. He used to hang around after the
Redskins' voluntary trainingsessions during the lockout. Duper said Hankerson's
work ethic isthe receiver's most-impressive trait, adding that there's
nothingwrong with his rather large mitts."He has the opportunity to lock onto a
football if his hands arepositioned properly," Duper said. "He was taught all
those thingsin our two years and did a great job. Leonard doesn't have badhands;
his hands are great."Nonetheless, several balls that Hankerson should've caught
havehit the ground in practice. The perception that he's unreliable, inaddition
to his lack of blazing speed, helped him fall to the ninthreceiver drafted. But
McCardell said Hankerson's physicalattributes - 6-foot-2 and 205 Joe
Flacco Jersey Authentic pounds with long arms - will help himoverpower
cornerbacks and overcome perceived weaknesses."He's a big target and has a big
catch radius," McCardell said."Sometimes balls maybe are not on target, but with
his big catchradius he's on target."As far as Duper is concerned, there's no
question where hisformer pupil is headed: "I think Leonard Hankerson was a steal
inthe third round," Duper said. "I think he's going to be a star inthe NFL and
do great things in the NFL."If not, the reason won't be lack of effort.
