    Klik op de afbeelding om de link te volgen I've come across a nice website, which offers some facts concerning British newspapers:

    Some things I find worth mentioning are:

    • Classification of English newspapers:
    “The Times” is read by the people who run the country;
    “The Mirror”
    is read by the people who think they run the country;
    “The Guardian” is read by the people who think about running the country;
    “The Mail”
    is read by wives of the people who run the country;
    “The Daily Telegraph”
    is read by the people who think the country ought to be run as it used to be;
    “The Express”
    is read by the people who think it is still run as it used to be;
    “The Sun”
    is read by the people who don’t care who runs the country as long as the naked girl at page three is attractive.

    • In Britain today there are four nationwide quality papers:
    “The Times”, “The Daily Telegraph”, “The Guardian” and “The Independent”.
    (“The Daily Mail”, “The Daily Mirror”, “The Sun”, “The Daily Express” and “The Daily Star” are usually considered to be “populars”.)

    Klik op de afbeelding om de link te volgen People in Britain buy more newspapers than in most other European countries. Two out of three people older than 15 read a national dialy paper and three out of four read a Sunday newspaper. Sunday papers have a magazine supplement.
    Most people buy their newspaper from the local newsagent's or from a street vendor.

    "Quality" newspaper are broadsheets (large-sheet). They cover national and international news and analyse the news in editorials and articles.
    "Popular" newspapers are mostly tabloids (small-sheet). The "tabloids" have relatively few "hard news" stories. They usually cover more trivial and sensational subjects.

    London has its own central paper: The Evening Standard. Outside london a lot of regional papers are published in the cities and smaller towns. They offer a mixture of local and national news and are financed by local advertising.

    There are more than 7,000 different weekly of monthly magazines in Britain. They cover general and specialist interests, such as sports, music, computers, cooking, gardening, astrology, do-it-yourself skills, etc. The best-selling publications are the weekly Radio Times and TV Times. They contain background stories and the scheduled programmes for BBC, independent, cable and satellite television.
