Korea Open: Cameron Norrie beats Kaichi Uchida to reach quarter-finals

British number one Cameron Norrie cruised to a 6-2 6-2 victory over Japan's Kaichi Uchida to reach the quarter-finals of the Korea Open.

The 27-year-old broke two of his opponent's service games in each set to progress in one hour and three minutes.

The Briton, who is seeded two at the tournament, will face either Korean number one, Kwon Soon-woo, or American Jenson Brooksby.

Norrie has won two titles this year and reached the top 10 for the first time.

He also made it to the semi-finals at Wimbledon, where he lost to eventual winner Novak Djokovic.

Norrie said he plans to use the Korea and Japan Open to push his way into the top eight on the Race To Turin, in order to qualify for a spot at the season-ending ATP Finals in November.

There was also a win for fellow Briton Liam Broady in the Tel Aviv Open as he beat Dutch fifth seed Botic van de Zandschulp 6-4 4-6 6-3 in the second round.

The victory takes Broady to his second career ATP quarter-final - his first since 2017.

Broady, who came through qualifying, will face Croatian Marin Cilic for a place in the semi-final.

Former world number one Novak Djokovic is also into the quarter-finals as he cruised past Spain's Pablo Andujar 6-0 6-3.

It was the Serb's first singles appearance since he won Wimbledon in July as his decision not to be vaccinated against Covid-19 ruled him out of the US Open and other American events.

Ranked as the top seed in Tel Aviv, Djokovic lost fewer games against Andujar than in any match this season as he set up an encounter with Canada's Vasek Pospisil, ranked 149th in the world, on Friday.
