Delhi - Palampur Van 30 juni 2011 tot 05 augustus zal ik in India vrijwilligerswerk gaan doen. De eerste 3 weken zal ik in New Delhi meewerken aan het 'women empowerment project', daarna zit ik in Palampur (vlakbij de Himalaya en de Dalai Lama :-) !!!) waar ik zal helpen met het childcare project.

WEEKEND 1 Uitstapje naar Agra, Taj Mahal here I come!!!
WEEK 2 en 3 helpen in Delhi bij het 'Women empowerment project' "Although Delhi is the capital of the country and is one of the fastest developing countries, there still exists a large female population who are not very well educated and enabled to be financially independent. Volunteers working in this project work at those centers where women from lower middle class families are trained different skills such as beautician , crafts, embroidery and computers so that they can work independently. Volunteers work for around 5 hrs a day for 5 days in a week."

WEEK 4 en 5: helpen in Palampur bij het 'Childcare program' "Volunteers work in local day care centers in and around the area od Dharamshala and Palampur. These centers are short of well trained care takers for children and volunteers are very much needed.Volunteers take care of the children and help the staff in their daily work such as cleaning , feeding the children and engaging the children in different playful activities. Children in these centers are in the age group of 2-5 years. Volunteer tasks include the following :- - Teaching basic English alphabets to the children and singing poems and rhymes. - Playing with the kids and making a playful environment at the center. - Assisting the center staff in taking care of the kids. Volunteers in this program work for 4 hours in the morning. After lunch, volunteers work with children of tea garden labourers and spend time with them. Volunteers can also teach them English as well as general hygiene habits and good manners."
WEEKEND 21-22 juli en 28-29 juli : Uitstap naar Dharamsala (Dalai Lama!) en een trektocht Himalaya!!! (meer uitleg staat op volunteeringindia.com)
