First of all let's have a look on what the feature on the 3DS v3.0.0-6 update from Nintendo as below,

On Dec. 22, 2011,Nintendo has officially released a new system firmware V3.0.0-6. However, the firmware does not block the R4i cards. The 3DS system firmware v3.0.0-6 was released to improve the 3DS system stability and some other adjustment. What's more,it was said that System updates can also be performed manually when a wireless internet connection is available by opening the System Settings from the HOME Menu, selecting OTHER SETTINGS and selecting SYSTEM UPDATE.

“Nintendo constantly aims to improve the functionality of its systems and services in order to provide the most comfortable, user-friendly experience possible. As a part of these efforts, we are making Nintendo 3DS system software updates available through the internet or per-installed on selected Nintendo 3DS software cards.

System updates will be received automatically when a wireless internet connection is available if your version is 2.0.0-2U or higher. When the download is complete, a message will appear on the HOME Menu detailing the steps to take in order to start installing the system update.

System updates can also be performed manually when a wireless internet connection is available by opening the System Settings from the HOME Menu, selecting OTHER SETTINGS and selecting SYSTEM UPDATE.

Version 3.0.0-6U available via wireless Internet connection includes the following improvements:

System stability improvements and other adjustments
Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience. “
