You're My Sister
Nadine Leliaert
Once upon a time there was a little girl on a swing
she was minding her own business, maybe plotting a mishievious thing.
She had a pleasant home: brothers and sisters, a mom and a dad truly: there was nothing more to wish she 'd had
But her mind was occupied, she was dreaming of something nothing much, but to her a really big thing
She was going to start school, learning to read and write
and all she could think about were books and pages all white to fill with words and drawings and stuff
and she couldn't help it, one pencil would not be enough
in her mind she needed a case full of pens, she wanted it and felt so bad
but, because she knew how difficult it was for mom and dad, kept it a secret, this big dream she had.
Then one day people asked what she really dreamed about
and since her birthday was coming, she shouted her wish out loud.
It was You, my sister, my friend, my dear
You, were the one to understand it, to really hear that there was only one thing the girl wanted so badly
and it must have cost you a fortune at the time, but you gave it gladly...
How delighted she was when she opened it and found inside all kinds of magical stuff
she just couldn't stop touching it, opening it, smelling the pencils, trying the pen, she couldn't get enough
fingering the scissors, the sharpener, testing the glue
This was the most precious gift, a dream come true.
It's been over 34 years ago today like many things, the pen case got astray
but believe me, the girl in the picture I posted above thinks about it, every 26th of august, with the same feeling of love
for the one who made that dream come true...
My dear sister, my partner in mischief sometimes, my dear... I love you!
Not only for the pencil case, the moments of fun, the times we laughed until we cried, the times we found comfort at each other's side
but mostly because you never seem to change, always stay around
even after our family ties were unbound,
So take a look at the picture i posted above and afterwards at the other one
with my party dress on, 34 years older, hair all done
and believe me when I tell you this:
You'll always be my beloved, eldest sis!
