Earlier today South Carolina's Pee Dee SportsCenter talks sports radio segment featured TNA Wrestler Bobby Roode. Below is the full audio of the segment and text recap.
How he got into wrestling:"I was a huge fan as a kid growing up. I grew up in Canada so i was born and bred as a hockey player. I was always a big wrestling fan. When people asked me what i wanted to be when i grow up i would just answer that i wanted to be a professional athlete. I had a friend who was in the business and he offered to take me in and train me. Show me the ropes you can say. It started from there, it got in my blood. Paid my dues and I'm here now."
Who he grew up watching as a kid:"When i was a kid, before i even thought about getting into wrestling, the only guys i got to see were Hulk Hogan, Macho Man, King Kong Bundy. Of course, I am a hulkamaniac. Until i got into an older age in order to study it. I am a big fan of "Mr. Perfect Curt Hennig", i modeled my career after him. I thought he was one of the best in the world really. He was a great wrestler, great entertainer, awesome performer."Regarding Ric Flair:"I didn't get to see alot of him (Flair) when i was a kid but now that I'im in the business, i got to meet Ric and got to travel with him. It's one of those things, surreal. Ric was super nice to me, he kind of took me under his wing and when we started Fourtune with AJ Styles, James Storm and Kazarian he was our manager and would come out with us to ringside. We did alot of backstage promos with Ric. He really really helped us alot. He was our mentor. When i got a chance to go up against Ric, It was a real honor for me."How Beer Money formed:"It was an interesting time for me and James, we both just got out of different tag teams. We had a bit of a singles run, at the time we were spinning our wheels basically. There was an idea to put us as a tag team for one night. The chemistry was there and we kind of clicked. There was a match with us against LAX (Homicide and Hernandez). We did a backstage promo where James said "We both have everything that makes the world go 'round; Beer and Money." That was the name of our tag team. We became an overnight success. "Whether Roode would ever return to tag team wrestling:"Who knows. In this business you have to kind of live for the moment. When we both first got into this business we were in it to be world champions. Maybe one day when the time is right we can reestablish Beer Money. But the time isn't right."You can listen to the full interview segment below:
