It's official: Four-sided ring returns to TNA
Posted by Mark Virginia on 01/17/2010 at 01:51 PM

According to PWInsider.com, TNA's six-sided ring has been replaced by a traditional four-sided ring for tonight's Genesis PPV.

TNA had been using the six-sided ring since debuting at Universal Studios in May 2004 for their first Impact taping.

STING LOVEND OVER DE KOMST VAN FLAIR

Sting puts over Ric Flair in the TNA locker room

    Credit: F4WOnline.com

The Wrestling Observer is reporting that prior to the 1/4 TNA Impact taping, Sting put Ric Flair over huge in front of the entire talent roster, saying that he owes all of his success in pro wrestling to Ric Flair. He went on to say that Flair put him on the pro wrestling map in the late 1980's, and that in addition to being a friend, Flair is also a mentor to him. Sting also said that Flair is the main reason why he decided to stay on with TNA for another year so that he would have the opportunity to work with Flair once again.

    Chris Jericho def. John Morrison
CM Punk & Luke Gallows def. The Great Khali & Matt Hardy, Cryme Tyme and The Hart Dynasty (Fatal Four-Way Tag Team Match)
Mickie James def. Beth Phoenix by disqualification
    Kane def. Dolph Ziggler
Rey Mysterio def. Batista (Steel Cage Match)

GREEN BAY, Wisc. – Inside the forbidding walls of a steel cage, Rey Mysterio finally became the definitive No. 1 contender to the World Heavyweight Championship as the WWE Universe began to brace themselves for the upcoming Royal Rumble. (Full Royal Rumble coverage)

Rey Mysterio def. Batista (Steel Cage Match) (PHOTOS | WATCH)
World Heavyweight Champion Undertaker appeared before the WWE Universe, issuing a haunting warning to his two potential challengers that he would defeat whoever proved victorious inside the steel cage. The Demon of Death Valley then informed Unified Tag Team Champion Shawn Michaels that he would personally answer his challenge for a WrestleMania rematch on Monday Night Raw. (Photos | Watch) (Full Monday Night Raw coverage)

In the highly anticipated main event, Batista looked to be on his way to overcoming his former comrade-in-arms. But as he attempted to drop the Batista Bomb, Mysterio turned the tables, using his adversary’s height and a stunning kick to his opponent to climb the steel cage to ultimate triumph. When The Animal rushed to the door to try and reach the ground first, the masked Superstar slammed it in his face, putting an exclamation point on his towering victory.

Mysterio’s success wins him the right the face The Deadman for the World Title in just more than two weeks at the Royal Rumble. (Match preview)

Chris Jericho def. John Morrison (PHOTOS | WATCH)
After being knocked out in one punch by the legendary fist of “Iron Mike” Tyson on Monday Night Raw, Chris Jericho returned to Friday nights with a huge bruise on his face. He vowed to defeat all 29 other Superstars to win the Royal Rumble Match and then go on to WrestleMania XXVI to become a six-time World Champion.

With Intercontinental Champion Drew McIntyre coming down to ringside after the action had already begun, the self-proclaimed “best in the world at what he does” proved victorious over The Friday Night Delight. Morrison allowed “The Chosen One’s” presence to momentarily divert his attention from the match, paving the way for Jericho to finish The Guru of Greatness off with a surprise Code Breaker. After the bell, MyIntyre added insult to injury, stepping on the fallen Morrison’s face.

CM Punk & Luke Gallows def. The Great Khali & Matt Hardy, Cryme Tyme and The Hart Dynasty (Fatal Four-Way Tag Team Match) (PHOTOS | WATCH)
For the second week in a row, The Second City Saint converted a member of the WWE Universe to the Straightedge Society, shaving his new recruit’s head as a symbol of his transformation from his “past transgressions” into a new way of life. In the process, Punk pledged that he would continue his Straightedge quest by winning the Royal Rumble Match as the first step toward the salvation of society. (PHOTOS | WATCH)

CM Punk & Luke Gallows went on to triumph over three other tag teams, winning the right to face Unified Tag Team Champions D-Generation X for the titles. Though JTG went for the pin on The Straightedge Superstar, he hadn’t noticed that Punk’s “Detoxified Disciple” had tagged himself in. Gallows made short work of the unsuspecting Superstar, hitting him with the Gallows Pole for the monumental victory.

Mickie James def. Beth Phoenix  by disqualification (PHOTOS | WATCH)
The quickly growing animosity between the highly-charged Mickie James and The Glamazon fueled the fire for their explosive battle. But, when Mickie got trapped upside down in the turnbuckle, The Fabulous Firebird refused to back off, drawing the disqualification.

After the bell, Women's Champion Michelle McCool and Layla emerged. Rather than engage them, Beth opted to leave her venerable opponent to the wolves and make her exit. Lay-Cool proceeded to punish “Piggie James,” an assault that culminated with an earth-shattering Faithbreaker.

Kane def. Dolph Ziggler (PHOTOS | WATCH)
Despite Dolph Ziggler’s success in defeating Kane by count-out one week ago - and their hard-fought Beat the Clock Challenge Match the week before that - the third time was not a charm for the confident Superstar. After numerous attempts to ride the sleeper hold to victory, Ziggler fell at the hands of The Big Red Monster’s mighty chokeslam.

In an interview with Sky Sports News, WWE Diva Maria talked about how she might be leaving WWE at some point.

"I'm starting to do other things and it's partially because one day I want to be a mom and I want to get married and you can't really do that when you're on the road," Maria said. "So I've got to find a job that will allow me to do that."

Maria is releasing an album this spring and she will be appearing on the upcoming Celebrity Apprentice show hosted by Donald Trump.

WWE PROBEERDE JEFF NOG TE OVERHALEN NA MONDAY IMPACT

WWE still wanted Hardy back despite indictment?
Posted by Chris Kaufman on 01/14/2010 at 08:08 PM

    Credit: F4WOnline.com

According to Dave Meltzer, WWE officials were calling Jeff Hardy as late as 1/5 and were trying to get him to change his mind about joining TNA. Not only was this the day after Hardy appeared on Impact, but also a day after he was indicted on drug charges.

It's an interesting situation because it shows that WWE is softening their stance on the company's drug policy. It says a lot about both WWE and TNA since there was such strong interest in Hardy despite news of his indictment coming out.

Randy Orton accused of assaulting teen
Posted by Chris Kaufman on 01/13/2010 at 04:37 PM

A 15-year-old boy has accused WWE superstar Randy Orton of assault and battery on Tuesday night, and has filed a criminal complaint according to Press in Saugas, MA.

The boy accused Orton of spitting gum in his face and using profanity. Orton was also accused of saying "so sue me" when the boy's mother attempted to interject.

The incident is alleged to have taken place in the parking lot of Kowloon restaurant outside of Boston - a regular visiting spot for WWE stars when they are in the area.

Update on McMahon's reaction to Hardy in TNA

While Vince McMahon was no-selling Jeff Hardy appearing on TNA's three-hour Impact broadcast last week backstage, it's been said that he was "privately seething" over the former WWE Champion's decision to jump ship to the competition. As noted earlier, WWE promptly removed Hardy from its opening video montage.

Kelly Kelly has problem prior to RAW
Posted by Chris Kaufman on 01/12/2010 at 11:18 AM

If anyone was wondering why Kelly Kelly had different ring attire and tennis shoes as opposed to wrestling boots during her match last night on RAW, it is because the WWE Diva lost her luggage before the show.

In a related note, despite what seemed to be a pretty scary powerbomb Kelly suffered in the finish of her match, she is not suffering from any full-blown injuries.

HOGAN ZEGT DAT WWE WRESTLERS JUICHEN VOOR TNA

Hogan says WWE guys are cheering for TNA, more
Posted by Mark Virginia on 01/16/2010 at 04:25 PM

The following is an excerpt from an interview with Hulk Hogan on IGN TV:

Hulk Hogan on WWE and Bret Hart: "I expected a bunch of different stuff, from Bret's look – I was looking for something really exciting. I was like "oh my gosh, man, this is going to be fun" but then I saw it and went "hmmmm." I smell blood. I watched the show after that with Tyson and the show before that with Timbaland and I liked those shows better. But that's just me."

Hulk Hogan on more stars coming to TNA: "My phone's been ringing so much from guys who want to come in. Thank god, that's the easy part. Because I was all messed up in the head and I thought that would be tough. I was in the airport with one of the guys from the WWE and they said "the guys in the WWE are cheering us on like crazy."

Spike TV played a big part in TNA bringing Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff in. Spike reportedly earmarked money and helped out with the contracts as they have done in the past with other major TNA signings such as Mick Foley. Kevin Kay and Brian Diamond of Spike are long-term looking to use Hulk Hogan to challenge RAW on Monday nights.

ECW Champion Christian def. William Regal

This week’s “WWE Superstars” was home to not only four fantastic matches, but also several ring warriors succeeding even when the deck was stacked against them. Fans cheered as ECW Champion Christian defeated William Regal in spite of interference from the massive Ezekiel Jackson and were delighted to see the team of Jimmy Wang Yang & Slam Master J get a win over Mike Knox & Charlie Haas.

ECW Champion Christian def. William Regal (PHOTOS | WATCH)
At Royal Rumble Christian will defend his ECW Title against the winner of the ECW Homecoming Finale, Ezekiel Jackson. Before that happens however, Captain Charisma had to face Big Zeke’s associate, William Regal, on “WWE Superstars.” As usual, The British Brawler was accompanied by The Guyanese Goliath, who attempted to become involved in the match-up. Luckily for Christian, however, the ring official caught Jackson and ejected him from ringside. With the match strictly one-on-one, the ECW Champion pinned Regal for the win, sending a clear message to his Royal Rumble opponent.

Jimmy Wang Yang & Slam Master J def. Mike Knox & Charlie Haas (PHOTOS | WATCH)
Jimmy Wang Yang and his partner Slam Master J, two Superstars with two very different very unorthodox styles, make for a strange looking tag team, and on “WWE Superstars,” they faced off against fellow SmackDown ring warriors, Mike Knox & Charlie Haas. Though their opponents boasted both a powerhouse in the form of Big Mike Knox and a technical expert in Haas, Yang & J persevered, with the self-proclaimed “Asian redneck” picking up the win.

Chris Masters def. Carlito (PHOTOS | WATCH)
Accompanied by Eve, Chris Masters appeared on “WWE Superstars” to take on the churlish Carlito. The Southpaw from San Juan threw everything he had at The Masterpiece, but like so many other ring warriors, found himself powerless in the face of the massive strength and power of The Masterpiece. With his win over Carlito, Masters continued to impress both the WWE Universe and the lovely Eve.

Primo & Gail Kim def. Chavo Guerrero & Jillian (PHOTOS | WATCH)
“WWE Superstars,” opened with a mixed tag team match pitting Primo & Gail Kim against Chavo Guerrero & Jillian. She may be Raw’s tone-deaf songstress, but Jillian had very little to sing about after watching her partner get pinned by the high-flying Primo.

Bischoff says he's "better" than McMahon

Bischoff says he's "better" than McMahon
Posted by Mark Virginia on 01/14/2010 at 04:01 PM

The following is an excerpt from an interview with Eric Bischoff from ScrippsNews.com:

"I have a tremendous respect for Vince [McMahon] and, in a perverse way, like him," [Eric] Bischoff said. "But at the end of the day, I think I'm better than him. I'm more creative than him and have a better feel for the business."

    Bischoff then laughed.

"It's just that he happens to be a lot more successful than I am."

Bischoff now has another chance to compete with McMahon, although this challenge will be much tougher. WWE is a multimillion juggernaut while TNA lacks the deep pockets that WCW had with AOL/Time Warner backing.

TNA, though, does have the chance to establish itself as a successful secondary U.S. promotion. After the ratings success of last week's special, Spike is expected to ultimately give TNA a Monday-night time slot opposite "Raw."

Bischoff said he has watched the Jan. 4 "Impact" between "50 to 75 times" looking for ways to make the show better. While not happy with some of the production values and a disastrous finish to the opening X-Division cage match, Bischoff said he was happy with a product that featured the TNA debuts of Hogan as well as former WWE stars like Ric Flair and Jeff Hardy.

"Think of WWE as a giant aircraft carrier and TNA as an 18-foot speedboat," said Bischoff, 54. "There's a lot the aircraft carrier can do, but it's also big and slow. We can bring a more flexible, aggressive and nimble approach. There is an open-mindedness and risk-taking mentality that exists here. That's one thing I really like about this company."

SCOTT HALL WILT SID VICIOUS IN TNA

Report: Scott Hall wants Sid in TNA
Posted by Mark Virginia on 01/13/2010 at 08:09 PM

    Credit: prowrestling.net

Scott Hall is pushing company officials to hire his friend, Sid Eudy (a/k/a Sid Vicious).

The two apparently became real close friends in the past year as just before his return to the organization, Hall had been working on the independent circuit with the multi-time world champion. Furthermore, Sid's son Gunnar made his wrestling debut alongside Hall this past summer in a tag match. There were also videos posted online of the duo "shooting" on the wrestling business.

It's also interesting to note that the TNA logo was recently posted on Sid's MySpace page.

    Update Scott Hall/Sean Waltman

Update on the status of Scott Hall/Sean Waltman
Posted by Mark Virginia on 01/13/2010 at 04:46 PM

According to F4WOnline.com, both Scott Hall and Sean Waltman are both are working on short term deals and are working on somewhat of a day-by-day basis. So far, TNA has been pleased with both wrestlers, and Scott Hall is said to be in much better shape now than he was when TNA last used him. Additionally, there is said to be little heat on Sean Waltman for arriving late to last week's Impact tapings.
