DES MOINES, Iowa. – The fallout from Judgment Day was in full force on SmackDown, as new champions celebrated, while others fought to find a taste of gold.

After the ultimate opportunist, Edge kicked off SmackDown reveling in his own glory, General Manager Theodore Long announced to the World Heavyweight Champion and our fans that a match would take place to determine the No. 1 contender to the title. With the winner facing Edge at One Night Stand in a Steel Cage Match, Batista was able to defeat Mark Henry, Finlay and Kane in a Fatal Four Way to earn the No. 1 contender’s position.

Montel Vontavious Porter brought his newly won United States Championship to Des Moines to celebrate his victory over Chris Benoit at Judgment Day. The brash, swaggering Superstar was throwing his bling in the air and in the face of the Rabid Wolverine, but his celebration was cut short when he let his ego get the best of him and demanded too much from Chris Benoit.

In other SmackDown action, Paul London & Brian Kendrick stepped into the ring against the ever-dangerous duo of William Regal and Dave Taylor, with each team hoping to become the next challengers to Deuce & Domino’s WWE Tag Team Championships. London & Kendrick picked up the victory by disqualification when the boys from the Other Side of the Tracks interfered. All three teams then brawled, which has led to a Triple Threat Match first announced here on WWE.com for the WWE Tag Team Championship Friday on SmackDown. (Preview SmackDown)

Another SmackDown Superstar with tag team gold around his waist is Matt Hardy, who took on The Miz in one-on-one action. Despite perhaps one of his best performances to date, Miz was unable to get the pinfall, instead losing when Matt Hardy delivered the Twist of Fate. Hardy continues his impressive streak, as he continues to climb the SmackDown ladder.

Also on Friday, SmackDown’s resident redneck Jimmy Wang Yang defeated Cruiserweight Champion Chavo Guerrero in a non-title match. Yang appears to have the number of the Cruiserweight Champion, having pinned him in two straight weeks.

Moving from one Guerrero to another, General Manager Theodore Long has named Vickie Guerrero the Assistant General Manager of SmackDown, so that he can spend more time with his girl Kristal. Vickie told her new boss, “I promise I won’t let our fans down.” While Vickie seems to have turned over a new leaf, even Long has his reservations.

One Diva who is used to letting our fans down, or rather, making them duck for cover is Jillian. The wannabe pop princess debuted her new song “Jill & Tonic,” and the results are the same – a toxic mix. The tone-deaf Diva caught the ire of Boogeyman, and as she tried to escape, Michelle McCool threw her into the ring, leaving Jillian to a foul worming by Boogeyman & Little Boogeyman.

NEWS AND VIDEO FROM THURSDAY’S HUGE “iMPACT!” ON SPIKE TV
Samoa Joe advances to the King Of The Mountain Match
    By Bill Banks

There are several major news items to report from Thursday’s huge “iMPACT!” broadcast on SpikeTV, including an update on the upcoming “Slammiversary” Pay-Per-View on Sunday, June 17!

Note: Tune in next Thursday night on SpikeTV for another King Of The Mountain Qualifying Match featuring Jeff Jarrett vs. “The Phenomenal” AJ Styles!

SAMOA JOE ADVANCES OVER STING TO THE KING OF THE MOUNTAIN MATCH AT SLAMMIVERSARY
On Thursday’s “iMPACT!”, it was “The Samoan Submission Machine” Samoa Joe advancing over the icon Sting in a qualifying bout to earn a spot in the King Of The Mountain match at Slammiversary on Sunday, June 17. During the bout, “The Fallen Angel” Christopher Daniels came to ringside and tried to convince Sting to use his black bat on Joe, but the icon refused. Later, Daniels smashed Sting with the weapon, which led to the former World Champion being unable to fend off the attack from Joe. With the win, Samoa Joe joins Kurt Angle in the Pay-Per-View main event, with another qualifying match this Thursday on “iMPACT!” with Jeff Jarrett vs. AJ Styles!

IT’S OFFICIAL – TAG TEAM DREAM MATCH SIGNED: TEAM 3D VS. THE STEINER BROTHERS ON JUNE 17 AT SLAMMIVERSARY
Also on Thursday’s SpikeTV broadcast, a tag team dream match was made official for “Slammiversary” as it will be TNA World Tag Team Champions Team 3D battling the legendary Steiner Brothers for the first time in TNA Wrestling history! During the face-off between the teams, Brother Ray and Brother Devon tried to pay respect to The Steiners, but “Big Poppa Pump” ripped into Team 3D unmercifully, claiming they didn’t deserve to call themselves one of the greatest ever until they beat The Steiner Brothers. As a result, Scott Steiner made the challenge for the two legendary teams to battle on Sunday, June 17 live on Pay-Per-View in a bout fans everywhere will be looking forward to!

OTHER NEWS FROM THURSDAY’S “iMPACT!” ON SPIKE TV:

    - According to Robert Roode, Eric Young has one more week to respond to his lawsuit regarding his ownership of the TNA star – or things will get ugly for both Young and TNA management!

    - Following the tag team bout on Thursday’s broadcast featuring The Latin American Xchange vs. “The Instant Classic” Christian Cage and Tomko, The LAX nearly beat down Hector Guerrero as the bad blood continues to boil between Konnan and Guerrero. If it wasn’t for “The War Machine” Rhino and “Wildcat” Chris Harris coming to Guerrero’s aid, The LAX was ready to attack their newfound nemesis.

    - Also on Thursday night, Christy Hemme’s team of Basham and Damaja put another beating on Kip James. During the bout with James and Lance Hoyt vs. Basham and Damaja, Hoyt attempted to eliminate Hemme from the ringside area - which opened up the opportunity for her team to brutally attack Kip James.

    Results:Experiencing painful revenge

    By Bryan Robinson
    May 22, 2007

DES MOINES, Iowa – With One Night Stand less than two weeks away, the Land of the Extreme was awaiting the eagerly anticipated one-on-one Street Fight between Mr. McMahon and Bobby Lashley for the ECW World Title. Lashley won the right to challenge the Chairman by running the gauntlet and defeating four competitors – Chris Masters, Viscera, Umaga and Shane McMahon – on Raw.

While all of ECW was wondering whether Lashley will finally get his ultimate revenge on Mr. McMahon at One Night Stand, New Breed leader Elijah Burke focused on avenging his loss to CM Punk at Judgment Day. The so-called "Paragon of Virtue" had promised his New Breed that he would lead by example and teach Punk a lesson for infiltrating and trying to break apart the group from within.

But Burke fell short in a hard-fought battle at Judgment Day. Tonight, with the help of fellow New Breeder Marcus Cor Von, Burke got a measure of revenge against Punk in a tag team war. They didn't get the victory, but they left a painful mark on the Straightedge Superstar & Rob Van Dam.

RVD had vengeance on his mind after Snitsky whacked him on the head with a steel chair last week on ECW on Sci Fi. This week, the yellow-toothed deranged monster made Tommy Dreamer his latest victim in the trail of bodies he has left since entering ECW. However, when Snitsky tried to demolish Dreamer the same way he did to RVD, the one-of-a-kind Superstar saved his fellow ECW Original, and sent the bully slinking back to the locker room.

Snitsky has an impressive win-loss record in ECW, but one Superstar who has had problems getting victories lately is Matt Striker. After getting pinned in New Breed losses to the Major Brothers and Lashley, Striker had lost the confidence of Burke and the rest of the group. Tonight, Burke told Striker he would feel his wrath if he lost his singles match with Brett Major.

This motivated Striker as the Extreme Educator defeated the Major Brother. "See, I belong here," a relieved Striker said to himself and the crowd as he walked back to the locker room.

One former New Breed member who is seeking new blood after leaving the group is Kevin Thorn. ECW's fanged freak continued the new chapter in his career by bulldozing another hapless foe on ECW on Sci Fi.

    Is it over for HBK?

    Is it over for HBK?

    By Louie Dee
    Written: May 21, 2007

ST. LOUIS – For any WWE Superstar, suffering two concussions in a short span of time is a dangerous scenario. But for someone with a history of concussions like Shawn Michaels, it may end up being career-threatening. HBK has a history of concussions going back to 1995, when he was assaulted and forced to relinquish the Intercontinental Championship. Since then, Michaels has been no stranger to brain trauma, even nearly losing a chance at achieving his boyhood dream of winning the WWE Championship thanks to a concussion.

Injuries are a common part of sports, but a concussion is not just any injury. Because of the physical nature of any sport, concussions might be the toughest thing to overcome. Shawn Michaels has been around a long time and fought his way back from numerous injuries, but at this point in his career, a pair of severe concussions might be too much to overcome.

Why? Well, research from a number of leading neurologists has shown that multiple concussions can cause permanent brain injuries, possibly leading to debilitating memory loss, confusion, dementia and even depression. In the world of sports-entertainment, that’s a dangerous proposition. If a Superstar steps into the ring with impaired brain function, he can put not only himself, but also his partners or opponents into a dangerous situation. Even with the fighting spirit and heart of a champion that HBK possesses, this trauma might be too much for ANY athlete to overcome.

In April 2001, former NFL quarterback Troy Aikman was forced to retire from the sport due to the effects of suffering too many concussions. In his final two seasons with the Dallas Cowboys, Aikman suffered four concussions, the last of which came on what would be the final play of his career.

During his emotional retirement speech, Aikman choked back tears as he said that “I know it’s the right thing for me because of my health, concussions…It took its toll.” Aikman later added that “I want to play, but I just can’t do that anymore.” Let’s hope that the same is not true for Shawn Michaels.

Another example of what concussions can do to an athlete is the case of Milwaukee Brewers third baseman Corey Koskie. After suffering a freak concussion last July, Koskie has yet to return to Major League Baseball and may never be able to at all. As he told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel in a February interview, months later he still had days where feelings of dizziness and nausea wouldn’t allow him to get out of bed.

“I've talked to a lot of guys who've been through this and they say the worst thing you can do is put a time frame on it. You take it day by day and see how you feel that day,” Koskie said in that interview.

A year later, Koskie is still on the sidelines from just that one concussion. Given Shawn Michaels’ history of having multiple concussions over the years, is this the future HBK is staring at?

Michaels has the heart of a champion and the spirit of a warrior. But while his heart may be telling him go, HBK must ultimately listen to his brain, which will give him the answer to the biggest question of all. Could the events of the past few weeks end Shawn Michaels’ career once and for all? Only time will tell.

    Results:Gauntlets galore

    By Louie Dee
    May 21, 2007

MOLINE, Ill. - Gauntlets were run, thrown and explained as Raw invaded the Quad Cities just 24 hours after Judgment Day.

After being screwed out of the ECW World Title at Judgment Day, Bobby Lashley had the opportunity to earn his rematch on Raw. To get the chance to face Mr. McMahon in a Street Fight at One Night Stand, all Lashley had to do was run the gauntlet and defeat four men in one night. Despite the odds, Lashley did just that, defeating Chris Masters, Viscera, Umaga and then Shane McMahon to earn another crack at the WWE Chairman on June 3.

The Great Khali also felt he was screwed at Judgment Day, explaining through his interpreter that his foot was under the ropes when he tapped out to John Cena’s STFU. The Champ, who never backs down from a fight, accepted Khali’s challenge for another WWE Title Match at One Night Stand…but for the fourth time in four weeks on Raw, Cena found himself beat down by the massive challenger.

Randy Orton, who may have ended Shawn Michaels’ career at Judgment Day, came to the Raw ring to explain exactly why he did so: “An injury is a bullseye, and I did what any professional would do…I exploited it,” said the cocky Legend Killer. Read the whole story…

Raw also saw a Judgment Day rematch, as Carlito got another crack at Ric Flair. While the teacher took the student to school at Judgment Day, the result was much different one night later. After the match ended in a double count-out when both men spilled to the floor, the Southpaw from San Juan viciously attacked his former mentor. Showing a total lack of respect, Carlito dropped Flair with a pair of brutal Backstabbers on the arena floor, sadistically targeting the back that has been Flair’s Achilles’ heel since being broken in a plane crash early in his career, before further disrespecting Flair by spitting apple in his face. Later this week, Carlito will hopefully explain his disrespectful and downright diabolical actions in an exclusive WWE.com interview.

Speaking of different results, The Hardys received some help from an unexpected source. With The World’s Greatest Tag Team sitting in on commentary, Matt & Jeff defeated Johnny Nitro & Kenny Dykstra, but when Nitro, Dykstra, Benjamin & Haas attacked the World Tag Team Champions, Cade & Murdoch came out to help the team they had just challenged for the gold one night earlier. Once the scavengers were sent packing, Cade & Murdoch applauded The Hardys and raised their hands in victory, once again continuing to prove they have turned over a new leaf. Cade & Murdoch will shed some more light on their new attitude later this week in an exclusive WWE.com interview.

The Divas were also in high demand on Raw this week. Candice Michelle scored an impressive win, pinning Women’s Champion Melina in a non-title match. Candice motioned that she wants the gold after defeating Victoria weeks ago, and that goal may be within closer reach after this win. Also, Ashley and company heated things up as she introduced the world premiere of Timbaland’s new video “Throw it on Me,” which features a half-dozen delicious Divas including Raw’s own Torrie Wilson.

    Helms minstens 1 jaar uit

    Neck surgery for Gregory Helms

    By Louie Dee
    Written: May 18, 2007

A lot can happen in one year, and Gregory Helms knows that better than anyone. For almost all of 2006, Helms was the Cruiserweight Champion, reigning longer than anyone who had ever held that gold before. Unfortunately, 2007 won’t be as fruitful, as Helms will spend the rest of 2007 on the sidelines.

After an exam with world-renowned Dr. Lloyd Youngblood, it was determined that Helms will need surgery to repair two broken vertebrae in his neck. The surgery, which will be performed by Dr. Youngblood in San Antonio, Texas on Monday, will be similar to that undergone by such Superstars as Edge and Chris Benoit, and recovery time will be at least one year before Helms can return to the ring.

“I’ve been having a great deal of pain in my neck and back for the last couple weeks, but I thought it was just one of those injuries we always get, like a pinched nerve or something,” Helms told WWE.com in an exclusive interview.

Unfortunately it wasn’t, as an MRI and further testing found the full extent of the damage.

“It turns out that I have two cracked vertebrae, and one of them is pressing into my spinal cord,” Helms revealed. “One is just demolished, and they told me that the pain I had outside my neck was pretty common; they call it pain referral. One is pressing so far into the spinal cord that I could risk paralysis if I kept going. We get bumps and bruises all the time, and I’ve been to the hospital before thinking something was wrong when I was just banged up, so I thought that this time too. I have a high tolerance for pain, but this pain is 24/7.”

Helms was busy this past weekend, with four SmackDown live events in three days, and it was about halfway through Saturday when he realized his injury was something substantive.

“Right before the second show in White Plains, I was trying to do some calisthenics and I couldn’t do my pushups. I thought maybe I was just tired, but when I tried to flex my triceps, it wouldn’t stiffen up. That made me think I had some nerve damage, so I talked to the trainers and Dr. Rios and they sent me for the MRI.”

Helms has always been known to give 100 percent every time he steps in the ring, and that didn’t stop once he knew something was wrong.

“I teamed with Chavo Guerrero in all four of my matches this weekend and he kept telling me to take it easy, but you know me.”

Helms has had plenty of support from his friends and fellow Superstars in the locker room, but the thought of sitting out a year brings out unfamiliar emotions.

“We have a pretty supportive locker room. Edge actually called me and everybody’s been standing behind me, which helps a lot,” an emotional Helms said. “I've been around a long time, and when the doc told me I couldn’t wrestle again for a year, that’s when the emotions really set in.”

The worst part, Helms said, was actually telling his family about the injury.

“My love for sports-entertainment came from my dad’s love for it,” Helms revealed, pausing a moment to collect his thoughts and emotions. “My father and I bonded over sports-entertainment, we used to watch together when I was a kid. He’s kind of lived vicariously through my career now as I’ve progressed, and it was really hard to tell him.”

One thing Helms is sure of: WWE hasn’t seen the last of him.

“Realistically, it’s hard to think of the future when you’re not sure if there is one, but anyone that knows me knows I’m a 100 percent guy,” Helms said. “It’s going to be a year of hard work and rehab, but WWE hasn’t seen the best of me yet so I can’t go out on a down note.”

the end of RVD in WWE
    QUOTE
Rob Van Dam's match with Snitsky on Tuesday could have very well been his last match ever in WWE. Wade Keller of the Pro Wrestling Torch is reporting that RVD is officially done with World Wrestling Entertainment as of last Wednesday. WWE felt that keeping RVD around and burying him on TV was not worth it and it was better to get him off TV as soon as possible.

His contract wasn't going to expire until late June at the earliest, but WWE officials cut that short because RVD said he would not re-sign with them and they had nothing for him until then. Despite the early release, RVD has a no-compete clause, and thus he can't show up in TNA next week for instance.

He is expected to sign with TNA after a long deserved summer break. If and when he joins TNA, it will probably be in September at the earliest. TNA is trying to land a two hour slot for the fall season on Spike, so if they end up getting it, they'll probably hold him off for the two hour show's debut.

KURT ANGLE STRIPPED OF THE TNA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE – CORNETTE ANNOUNCES KING OF THE MOUNTAIN MATCH
Following last Sunday’s “Sacrifice”, controversy surrounded the TNA World Heavyweight Title, as Kurt Angle, Christian Cage and Sting all claimed they should rightfully be champion. As a result of what took place at the Pay-Per-View, Jim Cornette stripped Kurt Angle of the TNA World Title and announced that a new champion would be crowned in the King of The Mountain Match at Slammiversary! The first qualifying bout took place on Thursday night, with Angle beating “The War Machine” Rhino to advance to the Pay-Per-View bout!

WHAT IS THE LINK BETWEEN STING AND THE FALLEN ANGEL?
Also on Thursday night, “The Fallen Angel” Christopher Daniels defeated Raven in a “First Blood” match, but things got strange after the bout when Daniels approached Sting backstage and began speaking to the icon. Daniels told Sting “I’m committed to the path – just like you told me” and that Daniels had taken to heart the advice Sting had apparently given him. A confused Sting told Daniels his recent actions are not what he intended by his words. What is the link between Sting and The Fallen Angel? Hopefully we’ll find out more to this intriguing story.

WHO IS MANAGER JAMES MITCHELL’S NEW “CREATURE”?
Does maniacal manager James Mitchell have a new prospect to manage in TNA? According to an interview with Mitchell that aired on Thursday night, he is set to unveil a new “creature” in Total Nonstop Action that will be a force unlike the promotion has ever seen! Now that Mitchell has cut ties with Abyss, when will we see this new force under the guidance of the evil manager? Tune into “iMPACT!” to find out!

OTHER NEWS ITEMS FROM THURSDAY’S “IMPACT!” -

    - Robert Roode has sued Eric Young for everything he’s worth! On Thursday’s “IMPACT!”, Roode served Young with legal papers saying that although he can’t fire him, he will take every cent he owns.

    - X Champion Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley defeated the team of Jerry Lynn and Tiger Mask. After the bout, Sabin and Shelley continued their attack, which brought our Mr. Backlund and “Black Machismo” Jay Lethal to help Lynn and Tiger Mask.

    - During a backstage interview, Sonjay Dutt personally apologized to Kevin Nash for attacking him at the Sacrifice Pay-Per-View. Nash accepted the apology, but said he wouldn’t be as forgiving if anything happened in the future.

MORE NEWS AND NOTES FROM SUNDAY’S ACCLAIMED “SACRIFICE” PAY-PER-VIEW EVENT

Catch the replay all week long on Pay-Per-View
    By Bill Banks

On Sunday night, Total Nonstop Action delivered what many are calling one of the best wrestling Pay-Per-Views of the year with the three-hour “Sacrifice” spectacular. You can catch the replay all week long on Dish Network, DirecTV, InDemand, TVN, Viewer’s Choice Canada and many others.

There are several major news items to report from Sunday’s epic event…

    - Obviously, both “Wildcat” Chris Harris and “Cowboy” James Storm had to be attended to by medical personnel following their bloody and violent classic at “Sacrifice”. Storm, in particular, was badly cut after being catapulted face-first into the bottom of a table by Harris. Storm received further damage after being hit in the face by Harris with a beer bottle. The bleeding from both TNA stars was so extensive that TNA officials were forced to change the ring canvas before the next bout.

    - Also on Sunday night, the world witnessed the reunion of one of the most legendary tag teams in wrestling history – The Steiner Brothers! Following the Pay-Per-View, both Steiners avoided discussing the possibility of teaming up again. However, TNAwrestling.com has learned that Rick Steiner told friends after the Pay-Per-View that he plans to be at Monday’s SpikeTV tapings in Orlando.

    - In a strange turn of events at Sacrifice, “The Fallen Angel’ Christopher Daniels - still bloodied from his bout with Rhino earlier in the night - was seen attempting to talk to Sting in the backstage area. In recent weeks, Daniels has been using Sting’s black bat and wearing a Sting mask. Plus, this was the first time we’ve seen Daniels speak since his return at Destination X. What is going on involving Sting and Daniels? Tune into “iMPACT!” to find out.

    - In a bout that truly defined Total Nonstop Action, Robert Roode’s TNA stock skyrocketed on Sunday night as he defeated “The King Of The Mountain” Jeff Jarrett. Following the bout, Roode and Ms. Brooks attempted to double-team Jarrett, but Eric Young hit the ring and joined Jarrett in applying figure-four leglocks to both Roode and Brooks!

New World Champion Crowned At Sacrifice - Kurt Angle! News

    May 13th, 2007 23:57
KURT ANGLE IS THE NEW WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION
Major news items from Sunday’s “Sacrifice” Pay-Per-View
    By Bill Banks

There are several major news items to report from Sunday’s “Sacrifice” Pay-Per-View extravaganza, including the crowning of a new World Heavyweight Champion! Replays are available all week long on InDemand, DirecTV, Dish Network, TVN, Viewer’s Choice Canada and more! Call your local cable or satellite provider for availability!

KURT ANGLE CROWNED NEW WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION
History was made at Sunday’s “Sacrifice” as Kurt Angle claimed the World Heavyweight Title in the three-way bout against former champion Christian Cage and Sting. Cage tried all he could to stir the hatred between Angle and Sting, but in the end, it was Angle getting Sting to tap out to the Ankle Lock just as the icon was scoring the pin on Cage. As a result, Kurt Angle is the new World Heavyweight Champion! Tune in Thursday night on “iMPACT!” on SpikeTV for more news on this huge title change!

    - Team 3D retained the World Tag Team Title on Sunday night in the three-way bout against The Latin American Xchange and Scott Steiner & Tomko when 3D got the pin on Tomko. However, there was big news after the match as “The Dog Faced Gremlin” Rick Steiner made his return to join brother Scott in the ring as “Big Poppa Pump” and Tomko were about to fight! Did Scott call his brother Rick in as backup? What will Tomko have to say about all this? Tune in Thursday night on “iMPACT!” to find out!

    - X Champion Chris Sabin retained his title on Sunday night over “Black Machismo” Jay Lethal and Sonjay Dutt. After the bout, a frustrated Sonjay Dutt attacked Kevin Nash and nailed him in the knee with a dropkick before leaving the ring. Later, an enraged Kevin Nash said that Dutt had crossed the line and that he would kick his @#$ this Thursday night on “iMPACT!”.

    - In the Texas Death Match, “Wildcat” Chris Harris defeated “Cowboy” James Storm in a bloodbath that saw both Jackie Moore and Gail Kim get involved. Harris got the win after smashing his former partner with the same beer bottle that blinded him months ago!

    - “The Samoan Submission Machine” Samoa Joe got the win over “The Phenomenal” AJ Styles after Joe tricked Styles into thinking he was injured. Earlier in the bout, Styles attempted to pull the same stunt, but Joe eventually turned the tables on him.

    - In the four-way X Division match, it was Jerry Lynn getting the win against Alex Shelley, Senshi and Tiger Mask when Lynn beat Shelley. After the bout, Chris Sabin hit the ring to help Shelley assault Lynn, which brought out Mr. Backlund to chase off the brash X stars.

    - “The Fallen Angel” Christopher Daniels used a baseball bat to get the win over “The War Machine” Rhino, but Rhino exacted his revenge after the bout. Rhino bloodied Daniels and attempted to hit him with a piledriver through two steel chairs, but TNA security stopped him before he could do so.

    - On Sunday afternoon during a meet and greet with fans, Damaja and Basham attacked BG and Kip James, injuring BG and forcing him out of the bout. As a result, Kip James went it alone against Christy Hemme’s team. Damaja and Basham were eventually disqualified during the bout, but not before they did their damage to Kip.
