Backstage Reaction To CM Punk’s Promo On WWE Raw

Backstage Reaction To CM Punk’s Promo On WWE Raw
Posted by Andy Steven on 06/28/2011 at 09:19 AM

While some people backstage knew it was coming, CM Punk’s shoot promo on Monday Night Raw certainly had everyone buzzing. When Punk started talking about being “a Paul Heyman guy,” and referenced controversial, past WWE names like Brock Lesnar, many wrestlers watching on the monitor were said to be “simply and solidly stunned” according to one WWE Superstar we spoke with, and several others were trying to find out Talent Exec John Laurinaitis’ reaction as well.

While no one believes Punk went into business for himself, the majority of the Raw locker room was said to be “in shock” (according to one source in production) over how strong the shoot promo was, and the delivery.

We will have tons more on this breaking story as it continues to develop.

WWE NXT Results (6/28/11) - Conor O'Brian Leaves & Submission Wrestling Returns
Written by Brooks Oglesby on Jun 28, 2011 - 10:41:53 PM

    WWE NXT Results - 6/28/11

-It's elimination time, as we head into the seventeenth week of NXT Redemption! The opening titles roll, and commentators Todd Grisham and William Regal welcome us from Phoenix, Arizona. Regal guesses that Conor O'Brian will be eliminated tonight as Darren Young makes his way to the ring.

-Darren says that Chavo Guerrero is not here because he quit on him. He's done more than Chavo in his short time here, and he's done it all by myself. He says that tonight, he's going to show everyone why he'll be the NXT winner. Conor O'Brian walks out and says that when he's done with Darren, there won't be any more talks about what Darren has done. The only talk will be about how Conor O'Brian took your NXT Redemption and turned it into absolute destruction.

Match #1: Darren Young vs. Conor O'Brian

-The two rookies lock up and fight around the ring. Conor eventually pushes Darren and himself through the second rope to the outside. Conor gets back into the ring, Darren follows, and Conor drops him with a clothesline. He then goes to strikes, hitting Darren with a European uppercut for a two-count. He rams Darren into the turnbuckle, then pulls him out into a short-arm clothesline. It gets a two-count, and Conor applies a modified wristlock. Darren gets up and runs the ropes, hitting a shoulder block, but Conor gets up and stops Darren in his tracks. Darren rolls off to the apron and Conor follows. Both men are on the apron and Darren hits a neckbreaker onto the apron as we go to commercial.

    -Commercial

-Both men are up and Darren hits a shoulder block for a two-count. Conor is seated and Darren torques Conor's neck. Conor gets to his feet and hits the ropes, only to run into Darren's elbow. Darren hits a number of boots to Conor's face as he tries to get up, but that only gets a two-count as well. Darren goes back to the neck crank and the crowd starts booing. Conor slowly makes his way to his feet and hits a quick flapjack on Darren. He then slingshots Darren into the turnbuckle and tries for a school boy, but Darren kicks out. Darren whips Conor into the corner and Darren runs the ropes, but he gets leveled with a huge big boot. Conor suplexes Darren onto the ropes. Darren gets up and quickly slams Conor's shoulder into the second turnbuckle. Darren then hits the Three Amigos on Darren, and goes up to the top rope to a chorus of boos. Darren hits a frog splash for the three-count.

    Winner: Darren Young

-Yoshi Tatsu vs. Tyson Kidd is announced for later tonight.

-Yoshi Tatsu is backstage with another shrine. His Yoshi Tatsu action figure is in the center. Tyson Kidd comes up and picks up Yoshi's action figure. He taunts Yoshi and starts pulling off the figure's limbs. Yoshi goes nuts and takes Kidd down. Referees come in to pull them apart while Yoshi starts yelling in Japanese.

    -Commercial

-Yoshi Tatsu looks upset and is all business as he makes his way to the ring. Kidd comes out with a smirk and Yoshi's glare never leaves Kidd.

Match #2: Yoshi Tatsu vs. Tyson Kidd

-Yoshi tackles Kidd and they're just brawling. Kidd rolls out of the ring and recuperates, but Yoshi hurries out. Kidd tries to trick Yoshi, going back into the ring and trying to take advantage when Yoshi follows, but Yoshi dodges, gets back into the ring, and takes Kidd down once again. Kidd throws Yoshi into the corner and stomps Yoshi down. Kidd whips Yoshi but Yoshi counters with a kick to the face. Kidd takes control again, whipping Yoshi into the corner. Yoshi falls out of the ring by the steel steps and Kidd gets out of the ring and hits a low dropkick on Yoshi, ramming him into the steps.

    -Commercial

-Kidd is in control with a modified hammerlock on Yoshi. Yoshi gets to his feet, but Kidd stops Yoshi with a knee to the gut and a back suplex with his arm trapped. Yoshi fights to his feet with a chop, but Kidd stops Yoshi again with a kick to the quadricep. Kidd attacks the arm, stretching it with the bottom ring rope. He stomps on Yoshi's hand and applies an armbar. Kidd yells to give up, but Yoshi won't. Yoshi gets fired up, gets to his feet, and hits an arm drag. Both men hit the ropes and both men hit a flying clothesline. Both men are down as the referee starts the count. They both get up at 5 and Yoshi starts with the Flair chops. Yoshi drops Kidd with a gut kick and hits his signature snapmare-kick to the face combination. Kidd reels in the corner and Yoshi hits his double knee attack and a spinning wheel kick, which gets a two count. Yoshi goes to the top rope, but Kidd runs up to the corner and tries to hit a superplex, but Yoshi pushes him away. Yoshi tries to make it to the top, but Kidd runs back over and dropkicks the rope, dropping Yoshi where it hurts. Kidd hits a picture-perfect frankensteiner for a very close two-count. Kidd gets up slowly and Yoshi tries for a small package, but Kidd gets out. Kidd tries for a suplex, but Yoshi rolls out and drops Kidd with a roundhouse kick to the head for the three-count.

    Winner: Yoshi Tatsu

-Titus O'Neil will take on JTG up next.

-JTG is backstage checking out his bling. Hornswoggle sneaks up behind him in a trash can and tries to steal JTG's necklace from a table. JTG catches him and gets in Hornswoggle's face, but Titus runs over and stops JTG. JTG says that he doesn't like a thief, but Titus says that leprechauns like gold. JTG says he'll be keeping an eye on Hornswoggle and walks off.

    -Commercial

-Maryse makes her way out. She will be joining the commentary team. Hornswoggle's music hits to a nice pop and out come Titus O'Neil and Hornswoggle. We get a recap of Maryse rejecting Hornswoggle last week. Hornswoggle looks upset in the ring while Maryse has a big grin on her face. She says she's just honest as JTG makes his way to the ring.

Match #3: JTG vs. Titus O'Neil

-Titus whips JTG and drops him with an elbow strike. Titus forces JTG into the corner and throws him right back out. Meanwhile, Hornswoggle goes over and gives Maryse a note. It says "I love you. Do you love me?" with boxes marked Yes, No, and Maybe. JTG is back in control with a scoop slam. He then hits a back suplex which JTG modifies into a neckbreaker. JTG applies a chinlock as Titus gets to his feet. JTG switches to a front headlock, but Titus just flips JTG over. Titus hits a clothesline and a shoulder block, then whips JTG into the corner and hits a powerslam. Titus whips JTg, but he catches the ropes and rolls out. JTG looks at Hornswoggle, and Hornswoggle goes up onto the apron and starts taunting and gesturing. Titus pulls JTG up into the ring and hits Clash of Titus for the win.

    Winner: Titus O'Neil

-Hornswoggle gets up on Titus' shoulders and they celebrate. Maryse stands up with her note and rips it in half. Hornswoggle's smile disappears and he gets off of Titus' shoulders. Maryse yells at Hornswoggle and he and Titus leave the ring.

    -Commercial

    Elimination

-The rookies are lined up at ringside as Maryse and Matt Striker stand by. Maryse says that this is the moment we've been waiting for, and Matt Striker reminds us what's at stake. He says that the rookies have given a lot, and it's all up to the WWE Universe and the WWE pros. He reminds us that the Redemption points will come into play in the event of a tie. Titus O'Neil has 22 points. Darren Young has 7 points. Conor O'Brian has 3 points. With that said, it's time to see who's going home.

    Conor O'Brian has been eliminated.

-Titus shakes Conor's hand as he thanks everyone who voted for him. He thanks Vladimir for being a good pro and a good friend. He says that if Hunter is listening, he was never good at the game of life, but he just wants a chance to play the game.

-Striker has a surprise for us. They won't be going to the finals alone. They will be joined by Derrick Bateman, and his former pro, Daniel Bryan. They both come out to the ramp close the show.

-That's it for this week's edition of NXT Redemption. Thanks for reading.

WWE Chairman Vince McMahon suspends CM Punk

WWE Chairman Vince McMahon suspends CM Punk

Raw’s abrupt conclusion Monday night was not due to technical difficulties. The decision to suddenly end the broadcast in that manner was made by WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon, who gave this quote to WWE.com:

“CM Punk was suspended indefinitely for his unprofessional conduct as soon as Raw went off the air.”

With his WWE contract expiring on July 17, one can only assume that this suspension effectively terminates CM Punk’s tenure with WWE.

Raw results: What happens in Vegas ...
By: James Wortman June 27, 2011
    Tags: Raw: June 27, 2011
LAS VEGAS – The WWE Universe went for a spin in the city of sin for Raw Roulette, the one night of the year when matches, competitors and stipulations are determined by the whirling of the wheel.
R-Truth def. WWE Champion John Cena in a Raw Roulette Non-title Tables Match (WATCH | PHOTOS)
Millions of visitors “hit the tables” each year when they journey to Las Vegas, but typically not like this. In the final Raw Roulette bout of the evening, R-Truth faced WWE Champion John Cena in an emotionally charged Tables Match. All too eager to silence “Little Jimmys” around the globe by sending their hero crashing through the hardwood, Truth brought the fight to The Champ early on, but it was ultimately CM Punk who would decide the match’s outcome when he saved Truth from an Attitude Adjustment through the pine. Then, while Cena was distracted by The Second City Savior, Truth drove The Champ through a table propped up in the corner of the ring.

Rey Mysterio & Alex Riley def. The Miz & Jack Swagger in a Raw Roulette Tornado Match (WATCH | PHOTOS)
The Miz and Jack Swagger aren’t exactly known for adhering to rules and regulations, so a tagless Tornado Match is probably the best way these two sinister Superstars could ever join forces. However, as the ring nearly buckled under the combined weight of their massive egos, The Awesome One & The All-American American suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of Rey Mysterio & The Miz’s former apprentice, Alex Riley.

As revealed earlier in the night, all four of these ring warriors will meet in this year’s Raw Money in the Bank Ladder Match, which will guarantee the winner a WWE Title opportunity at the time and place of their choosing. Although The Miz & Swagger each hold Money in the Bank victories – achievements that they both parlayed into World Title reigns – their odds of repeating that success seem a lot less likely with A-Ry and The Master of the 619 involved. Thanks in no small part to some amazing offense by Riley, Mysterio scored a pinfall after hitting Swagger with a frog splash.

Divas Champion Kelly Kelly def. Nikki Bella in a Raw Roulette Submission Match
    (WATCH | PHOTOS)
SmackDown commentator Booker T had his fingers crossed in the hopes that Divas Champion Kelly Kelly would face Brie Bella in a Pillow Fight, but the Raw Roulette wheel instead mandated that the Divas would compete in a Submission Match. Even though no actual pillows were present, feathers did indeed fly between these battling beauties.

Coming off her momentous Divas Title victory one week earlier on Raw, the newly minted champion held nothing back against the feisty former titleholder, giving the WWE Universe an idea of what to expect when the rivals collide once again in a Divas Title rematch at WWE Money in the Bank. After putting Brie away with a Boston crab, Kelly Kelly found herself on the receiving end of a Bella beatdown when Nikki entered the fray. Thankfully, there was an angel in Sin City in the form of Eve, who assisted her friend in turning back the twins.

Alberto Del Rio def. Big Show in a Raw Roulette Steel Cage Match; Mark Henry ravaged cage (WATCH | PHOTOS)
Not even a steel cage door could keep an enraged Mark Henry from preying on Big Show during the giant’s confined clash with Alberto Del Rio. Just three days after assaulting Show in the locker room area on SmackDown, The World’s Strongest Man struck again, this time tearing the door off the steel cage and brutally mauling his massive adversary.

Always knowing a good opportunity when he sees it, the sly Mexican Aristocrat escaped the cage through the open doorway as Henry continued to batter Show. In a terrifying display of ferocity, Henry then nailed the giant with the steel door, sending him crashing through the cage wall itself.

Kofi Kingston def. U.S. Champion Dolph Ziggler in a Raw Roulette Non-title Player’s Choice Match (WATCH | PHOTOS)
Vickie Guerrero’s earned no shortage of nicknames during her WWE career, but “Lady Luck” certainly isn’t one of them. As Kofi Kingston prepared to spin the wheel to determine the stipulation for his non-title bout with Vickie’s business associate, United States Champion Dolph Ziggler, the shrieking she-devil intervened and demanded to take the wheel herself. Unfortunately for Vickie – but fortunately for The Dreadlocked Dynamo – the Raw Roulette wheel landed on the “Player’s Choice Match” option, which Kingston used to bar her from ringside.

Attaining a measure of retribution after Ziggler stole a victory and a title defense in their 2-out-of-3 Falls Match one week earlier on Raw: Power to the People, Kingston proved to his longtime rival that there are few Superstars that can withstand his controlled frenzy, putting away the blond blowhard with Trouble in Paradise from out of nowhere.

Following this key victory, Kingston aims to keep this momentum going as he prepares for the Raw Money in the Bank Ladder Match in three weeks, when he will clash with Evan Bourne, The Miz, Rey Mysterio, Alex Riley, Jack Swagger, R-Truth and Alberto Del Rio.(MATCH PREVIEW)

Sin Cara def. Evan Bourne in a Raw Roulette No Count-out Match (WATCH | PHOTOS)
Ask and you shall receive. After a tabulation mishap prevented the WWE Universe from witnessing international sensation Sin Cara battle Evan Bourne on Raw: Power to the People, WWE ensured that the high-flyers would collide just one week later in Las Vegas. In a No Count-out Match decided by the Raw Roulette wheel, the aerialists delivered thrills that were more than worth the seven-day wait.

In the end, the masked marvel overcame the speed and agility of “Air” Bourne, securing a pinfall victory with a stunning aerial maneuver, leaving Las Vegas with his remarkable WWE undefeated streak intact.

Kane def. CM Punk in a Raw Roulette Mystery Opponent Match by Count-out
    (WATCH | PHOTOS)
Whenever The Big Red Machine hits the ring, betting on red seems like a no-brainer. Knowing that his days in WWE are numbered, and that any injury could stack the odds against him in his WWE Title encounter with John Cena at WWE Money in the Bank, CM Punk escaped Kane’s fiery onslaught by exiting the ring and intentionally getting himself counted out.

    CM Punk interrupted Shawn Michaels
    (WATCH | PHOTOS)
WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels spent his entire in-ring career in the hunt – whether it be for thrills, competition or championship glory. With that in mind, it’s no surprise that the retired HBK is spending a great deal of his spare time proving his mettle against some of the most cunning game imaginable in the great outdoors, a pastime Michaels was eager to share with the WWE Universe as he kicked off a special Raw Roulette edition of Monday night’s hottest show.

As Michaels announced the premiere of his new hunting and lifestyle program called Shawn Michaels’ MacMillan River Adventures, debuting the following night on the Outdoor Channel, a brash CM Punk disrespectfully interrupted and threatened the returning Showstopper, reminding him and the entire WWE Universe that once his contract expires at WWE Money in the Bank on July 17, that will be the last time we’ll see The Second City Savior – and the WWE Championship.

After HBK dispatched WWE Tag Team Champion David Otunga with some Sweet Chin Music, Raw’s anonymous General Manager chimed in to tell Punk that since The Straight Edge Superstar has only three Mondays left in WWE, they’re going to count. With a spin of the wheel, the New Nexus overlord found himself facing a mystery opponent: Kane! If that wasn’t enough, Michaels tuned up the band again for Otunga’s tag team partner Michael McGillicutty, ensuring that, given Mason Ryan’s absence due to injury, Punk would face The Devil’s Favorite Demon without his armbanded lackeys.

Abyss responds to comments from Matt Hardy
Posted by Corbin Nordhoff on 06/26/2011 at 02:44 PM

It was reported yesterday that Matt Hardy was asking for fans to tweet him if they had asked for a refund at recent TNA house shows because he wasn't on it. It seemed like a matter of time before "someone" else in TNA responded to that. It finally did by way of Abyss as he posted the following on his Twitter:

"Our roster of talent is the best and brings everything they have to the ring everynite and our Impact live events give the fans alot for their money. No refunds required or requested. Thanks for being great fans no matter whos on the show. You guys are the best".
