Sting Discusses WWE, the Match with Jeff Hardy

Sting Discusses WWE, the Match with Jeff Hardy
Posted by Steve Carrier on 06/23/2011 at 11:55 AM

    - Sting recently spoke with The Baltimore Sun. Here are some highlights:

Do you have any more film projects in the works?

It’s so tough [because of the wrestling schedule]. I’ve had to pass on a couple other projects with some really good people, but I’m looking forward to doing some more. But, yes, I know that I will have time coming up here and I’d like to do a whole bunch more.

There is a lot of adult content on Impact Wrestling. As a man of faith, is it a concern for you to be on that type of show?

Absolutely. There’s no question about it. This is something that many Christians will use as their ace in the hole, and I’ll use it, but I’m not going to use it in a real loose way, and that is that Jesus Christ himself went in amongst the sinners – the murderers, the adulterers, the idolaters, the drunkards, and so on and so forth. And he didn’t come to judge them, he came to save them, be a doctor to them. I’m not putting myself on that level obviously, but at the same time, we are in the world, we are not of the world, if we are believers. I’m not going to put myself in a shell – it’s just not going to work that way. You have to get out there somehow or another and try to be a light or be the salt of the earth, and that’s all I’ve tried to do. As far as the content goes, I will only involve myself in situations that will not jeopardize my walk or my witness. You won’t hear vulgar things coming out of my mouth or sexual innuendos and all that kind of stuff.

In your current story line with Hulk Hogan, it almost seems as if there are some religious overtones as far as you trying to save the Hulk Hogan character and get him back on the right path. Is that the case or am I reading too much into it?

You know, there’s probably a thread of that in there for sure. Most of my story lines do have some sort of a redemptive quality to them. Vince Russo is writing a lot of this stuff, and many people may not know this, but he also is a believer. He writes with that kind of flair. The other thing, too, is I really believe that because of the nostalgia of Hulk Hogan – you know, he made an appearance on “American Idol” and got a huge, gigantic reaction – wrestling fans all over the place would love to see the story line for real. I think they want to see him come back and just be Hulk. I’d like to see it.

What was your reaction when WWE began airing the mysterious vignettes early this year that turned out to be for The Undertaker’s return, but initially had a lot of wrestling fans believing that the videos signaled that you were coming to WWE for to face The Undertaker at WrestleMania? And the second part of my question is: Did WWE contact you to come in and do something at that point?

I’ll answer the second part first. Yes, I was contacted by WWE people. The vignettes I can honestly tell you that I do not understand that one even now, unless it was some kind of deal where they were just trying to test the waters, I really don’t know, because so many people were saying, “I hope it’s Sting, I hope it’s Sting.” I thought, “Gosh, I wonder if they’re going to shoot themselves in the foot there by making this choice, because if things do not work out, why did they do it to begin with?” I had all kinds of things going through my head. But, yeah, I was very, very close to going up there, and I believe there probably would have been something with Undertaker. That was the word at least.

What are your thoughts on what went down the night you faced Jeff Hardy at the Victory Road pay-per-view?

I want to be careful with my words here because I really like Jeff Hardy. I’m hoping he can come back because that guy is so talented, but he has personal issues in his life and it just became too much for him, too overwhelming, and he just couldn’t cope and didn’t know how to handle it. So he made some bad choices and he’s having to deal with those choices and the consequences now. I hear he’s doing much, much better. Last I heard, he was riding his bike 10 miles a day and just getting in great shape and his life was getting in some kind of order.

You’ve said in the past that you intended to retire several times, but every year when your contract comes up in TNA, you get talked into staying for another year. At this point, how much longer do you plan to continue wrestling?

You know, you’re right. I think I’ve said every year for at least the last four years that this will be my last year. And I’m speaking the same way again now. I think I’ve smartened up a little bit. When I know it’s done, I’ll know it’s done. I’m going to go as long as I can, but, honestly, whether I want to or not, I cannot see going too much farther.

What You Didn't See On RAW
Posted by Dave Mitchell on 06/21/2011 at 01:12 AM

    - There was no dark match after Monday's RAW went off the air. The six-man tag team match that had been advertised locally took place on RAW.

    - The arena was around half-full. Many seats in the upper deck on the non-camera side were tarped off.

    - Zack Ryder was very over with the crowd, as were CM Punk and Randy Orton. Fans were very vocal when Punk announced he is leaving WWE on July 17th.

Gunner responds to internet wrestling fans
Posted by Corbin Nordhoff on 06/22/2011 at 11:36 AM

Gunner posted a diatribe on his Twitter account in response to wrestling fans criticizing TNA's "Wrestling Matters" initiative.

"If ya shoot why don't u realize first "wrestling matter" is the whole package! Promo's, matches and everything!! It takes stories to build to good matches," Gunner wrote. "I know everyone has opinions but don't be an idiot!!

"Wrestling is a whole new world than it used to be!! How about learning to cut a promo or do backstage SHIT before u shoot on a company." He continued, "WWE and Impact both have promos and in ring segs for a reason...to BUILD to a match! Oh I got it, let's just have random ass matches for no reason.

"And there is Gunner's 2 cents worth!!! Fools."

TMZ: Scott Hall sentenced to jail
Posted by Corbin Nordhoff on 06/21/2011 at 11:26 AM

    From TMZ.com:

Wrestling legend Scott Hall was sentenced to 10 days in Seminole County Jail yesterday ... for drunkenly resisting arrest back in May 2010 -- TMZ has learned.

For those unfamiliar, Hall was booked back in early May 2010 when cops found Hall -- aka Razor Ramon -- drunkenly yelling and cursing at patrons in a Florida bar. Hall was allegedly uncooperative with police ... and was popped for resisting arrest.

According to court records in Seminole County, Florida Hall was sentenced to 10 days in jail ... but the time was reduced to 2 days for time served.

We're told Hall is planning to check in to jail on July 5th -- and a rep for the wrestler says he'll be in the medical unit because of his "bad health."

    WWE NXT Results - 6/21/11

This is now the longest-running season, as we head into our sixteenth week of NXT Redemption! There is a recap of Lucky Cannon's time on NXT Redemption. His short-lived romance with Maryse is reviewed, and we are reminded of his elimination last week. The recap ends with a slap to Cannon from Maryse. The opening titles roll, and commentators Todd Grisham and William Regal welcome us from Hershey, Pennsylvania.

The fourth elimination will take place next week. Voting begins tomorrow at noon.

Hornswoggle's music hits and out comes Hornswoggle and Titus O'Neil. Hornswoggle mumbles for a while and Titus translates. Titus says that Hornswoggle has something to say to Maryse, who comes on out. Maryse asks what he wants and Hornswoggle mumbles a bit more. Titus says that Hornswoggle has a surprise for her, and to close her eyes and hold out her hand. She holds her hand too high, so Titus picks up Hornswoggle, who places another little black box in her hand. She opens it to find a ring pop. Maryse asks if Hornswoggle really thinks a woman like her would really care for a ring pop. She says that Hornswoggle is a little person with a little brain. She calls him a fat troll and tells him to find a woman his own size. She throws the gift at him and walks out.

Hornswoggle looks sad and Zack Ryder's music hits. Ryder comes out and asks how he got further with Hornswoggle as a pro than when Ryder was his pro in NXT Season 2. Titus says that Ryder suffers from spray tan overdose. He reminds Ryder that he was the first one eliminated because of him. Titus says that he's going to win this season of NXT with Hornswoggle, and he's going to prove that Hornswoggle is the better pro. Titus says that everyone knows who the better pro is and Matt Striker comes out. Striker makes a match for tonight: Zack Ryder vs. Titus O'Neil. Woo woo woo, you know it.

Match #1: Vladimir Kozlov, Conor O'Brian & Yoshi Tatsu vs. JTG, Chavo Guerrero, & Darren Young

There is a recap of Yoshi Tatsu vs. Darren Young from last week, which ended in Darren winning due to interference from Chavo Guerrero. JTG then entered the fray before Vlad and Conor ran out and cleared the ring.

Darren Young and Conor O'Brian start out in the ring. They lock up and Darren transfers into a side headlock. Conor quickly takes control with a grounded wristlock. Conor gets up and continues to work the arm with a hammerlock, but Darren flips out and applies a wristlock of his own. Conor takes control again with another hammerlock, but Darren gets out and runs the ropes, but runs into a shoulder block and a European uppercut from Conor. Darren rolls out of the ring and gets a short pep talk from Chavo before he rolls back in. He tags Chavo in. Chavo takes control with a kick to the solar plexus and a flurry of strikes to the upper back of Conor. Conor whips Chavo and hits a charging shoulder block which sends Conor reeling into his corner. JTG is tagged in, as is Yoshi Tatsu. They stare each other down and JTG continually runs around the ring so Yoshi can't land any kicks before tagging in Darren Young. Darren keeps Yoshi in the corner and tags in Chavo, who gets some quick strikes in the corner. Chavo chokes Yoshi on the second rope and whips Yoshi into the corner, but Yoshi hops over Chavo's head, lands on his feet, and drops Chavo with some kicks. Yoshi tags in Vladimir and gets some trapped headbutts. Chavo gets on the turnbuckle and jumps, but Vlad catches him and hits a falling powerslam. The action starts to break down as Vladimir goes after Darren on the apron. JTG hops off the apron and the faces stand in the ring as we go to commercial.

Kozlov is in control of Chavo as we come back. Vlad forces Chavo into the face corner and tags in Conor. Conor takes control with some shoulder blocks and tries a delayed vertical suplex, but Chavo hits an upside-down knee to the head and gets out. He then tags in Darren, who works Conor's leg. Darren hits a scoop slam, making Conor's legs land on the ropes. He then tags in JTG, who stomps on Conor's legs. He gets to his feet using the ropes, but JTG hits an innovative neckbreaker for a two-count. Chavo is tagged in and hits a slingshot body splash. He then stretches Conor's leg on the bottom rope and tags in Darren. Darren applies a modified half crab before releasing it and slamming Conor's knee onto the canvas. Chavo is tagged in and drops a number of elbows on Conor's leg before torquing the knee of Conor. Conor is forced into the heel corner, but knocks everyone away with a number of punches, only to fall to a low dropkick by Chavo. JTG is tagged in and rams Conor's knee against the steel ring post, which gets a two count. JTG taunts Conor as he tries to gets to his feet. JTG keeps him down as Chavo is tagged back in. Conor fights to his feet and hits a number of strikes on Chavo before Chavo takes him down by the knee and tags in Darren. Darren slams Conor's head onto the top turnbuckle pad, but Conor fights out of the corner. Darren climbs to the second rope and jumps, but Conor catches him and hits a big flapjack. Conor gets a tag to Yoshi after Darren gets a tag to JTG. Yoshi hits a number of Flair chops. Yoshi hits a double knee attack onto JTG in the corner, and then attacks the two heels on the apron. Yoshi hits a shining wizard, but the pin attempt is broken up by Darren and JTG. They try to suplex Vladimir, but he reverses and suplexes both men by himself. Meanwhile, Yoshi turns his attention to JTG and hits a roundhouse kick to the head for a three-count.

Winners: Vladimir Kozlov, Conor O'Brian & Yoshi Tatsu

Tyson Kidd is backstage (with no tuft of hair!), on the phone with his former rookie, Lucky Cannon. He's saying that he can't do anything about getting him back in the show. Kidd finds a shrine of sorts in the locker room, a Yoshi Tatsu action figure surrounded by candles. He goes up to it, but the real Yoshi yells "Don't touch!" Kidd scoffs and walks off. Yoshi sits down and places a Hershey's chocolate bar in front of his action figure (which gets a big pop from the hometown crowd).

Match #2: Zack Ryder vs. Titus O'Neil

Hornswoggle is on the apron in support of Titus. Ryder takes control, hitting a number of strikes on Titus in the corner. The referee separates the two and Titus takes control, throwing Ryder into the corner. Titus hits a number of strikes of his own and a scoop slam for a two-count. Ryder quickly runs out of the ring while Grisham puts over Z! True Long Island Story. Ryder gets back into the ring and gets a headlock takedown from Titus. Ryder makes his way to his feet and whips Titus, but gets shoulder blocked. Titus hits a big short-arm clothesline on Ryder, who reels in the corner. While he recooperates, Hornswoggle sneaks over and bites Ryder on the butt. Ryder climbs out of the ring, saying "Are you serious, bro?!" as we go to commercial.

Titus takes control with a European uppercut. A "Let's go Ryder!" chant breaks out, but Titus hits a backbreaker for a two-count. Ryder goes into the corner and hits a kick to Titus' face when he walks over. A "Woo Woo Woo" taunt from Ryder gets boos from the crowd. Ryder takes Titus back down with a flying forearm and keeps him grounded with a side headlock. Titus fights to his feet and hits a jawbreaker. Titus pushes Ryder away with a big boot, but Ryder knocks Titus down into the corner with a big boot of his own. Running face wash in the corner by Ryder gets a two-count. Ryder goes back to a side headlock, but Titus counters with a back suplex. Titus is fired up and hits two shoulder blocks followed by a running clothesline. Titus picks Ryder up and hits a fallaway slam. Ryder falls out of the ring and looks like he's about to attack Hornswoggle. Titus hurries out of the ring, but Ryder gets back into the ring. He stomps Titus when he gets back into the ring, backs up, and hits the Rough Ryder for the three-count.

    Winner: Zack Ryder

Ryder holds up the L-I hands as he walks up the ramp. He yells "All day!" as Hornswoggle sadly checks on Titus O'Neil to end the show.

Raw results: The people have spoken

    Tags: Raw: June 20, 2011
BALTIMORE – Let freedom ring! One night after WWE swept into Washington D.C. for Capitol Punishment, democracy continued to bloom as the WWE Universe exercised their right to vote thanks to a special, three-hour Raw: Power to the People.

WWE Champion John Cena, World Heavyweight Champion Randy Orton & Alex Riley def. R-Truth, Christian & The Miz in an Elimination Tag Team Match (WATCH | PHOTOS)
While members of the WWE Universe were busy exercising their rights, R-Truth, Christian & The Miz were busy exercising their mouths. The three came up short at Capitol Punishment the night before and had complained to SmackDown GM Theodore Long, who finally arranged a match for them against WWE Champion John Cena, World Heavyweight Champion Randy Orton & Alex Riley.

The only question that remained was under which stipulation would the six fight? The WWE Universe determined they would battle in an Elimination Match (79%), far surpassing the one fall to a finish (15%) and 20-minute time limit (6%) options.

When the bell rang, the tension reverberating between the six Superstars was clearly evident. Hot off his massive victory over Miz, A-Ry appeared pumped. He took the fight to Christian and his former boss like a veteran ring leader. Although the aggression was impressive, Riley found himself the first to be eliminated. Next up, Miz and R-Truth would fall in close succession, leaving Christian to tackle both Cena & Orton.

Captain Charisma grew so excited at having eliminated the World Heavyweight Champion that he appeared not to remember The Champ remained in the bout. As Christian occupied himself with Cena, The Viper slithered in and nailed him with a surprise RKO. The move allowed the WWE Champion to snap on the STF, forcing Christian to tap out and handing Cena’s squad the victory.

Shawn Michaels and Raw Roulette to return to Raw next week
Vegas, baby, Vegas! All the action takes place in Sin City, Las Vegas, next Monday night when Shawn Michaels returns to Raw. The WWE Hall of Famer will be on hand during one of WWE’s most exciting nights, Raw Roulette.

Michael Cole def. Vickie Guerrero in a Dance Competition (WATCH | PHOTOS)
All hail the Cole-aroonie! Michael Cole busted out a few “unique” dance moves to slay Vickie Guerrero in a Dance Competition. The WWE Universe took matters into their collective hands and voted for the Raw announcer to compete against the shrieking violet. Cole collected 47% of the vote while Jerry Lawler grabbed 39% and Booker T cleared 14%.

Daniel Bryan def. Cody Rhodes in a No Count-out Match (WATCH | PHOTOS)
All the paper bags in the world can’t mask the ugliness of Cody Rhodes’ behavior lately. The narcissistic Superstar was scheduled to face off against Daniel Bryan in a match with the stipulation to be determined by the WWE Universe. With a total of 51%, a No Count-out Match triumphed over a Paper Bag Match at 43% and a Collegiate Rules Match at 6%.

At the end of the bout, Bryan emerged victorious over his self-fawning foe. Rhodes, however, tried to save face. With help from his cohort, Ted DiBiase, the masked man leveled the submission specialist with a Cross Rhodes before slipping a paper bag over his head.

CM Punk def. Alberto Del Rio and Rey Mysterio in a Triple Threat Falls Count Anywhere Match (WATCH: PART 1 | PART 2 | PHOTOS)
CM Punk doesn’t play small ball. He proved it once again when he defeated both Alberto Del Rio and Rey Mysterio in a Triple Threat Match to determine the No. 1 contender for the WWE Championship. Per the WWE Universe, the three Superstars competed in a Falls Count Anywhere Match, which garnered 66% of the vote as opposed to 23% for a No Disqualifications Match and 11% for a Submission Match.

As if his victory weren’t enough of a laurel to rest upon, The Second City Savior went on to explain that his WWE contract expires the day of Money in the Bank, taking place in his hometown of Chicago. Punk then informed the WWE Universe that he not only intends to win the WWE Championship from John Cena, he intends to take the title with him when he exits WWE.

Kofi Kingston def. U.S. Champion Dolph Ziggler in a 2-out-of-3 Falls Match by Disqualification (WATCH: PART 1 | PART 2 | PHOTOS)
Research and destroy. Those three words best sum up Dolph Ziggler’s approach to Kofi Kingston. For weeks, the bombastic blond scouted Kofi, studying his moves and pinpointing his vulnerabilities. It all paid off at Capitol Punishment when Ziggler defeated The Dreadlock Dynamo to become U.S. Champion. At Raw: Power to the People, the freshly-minted champion faultered, however, after the WWE Universe chose 2-out-of-3 falls as the stipulation with 51% over Vickie Guerrero Banned From Ringside (31%) and Submission (18%).

With the Superstars tied up at one fall apiece, Ziggler punched Kofi in the head with a microphone causing him to be disqualified and allowing him to retain the title since a title cannot change hands on a disqualification.

SmackDown GM Theodore Long arranged main event match
There are losers and there are sore losers. And then there are R-Truth, Christian and The Miz. After coming up empty last night, the three complained to SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long until he agreed to arrange a Six-Man Tag Team Match main event pitting WWE Champion John Cena, World Heavyweight Champion Randy Orton & Alex Riley against Truth, Christian & Miz.

Kane def. Mark Henry in an Arm Wrestling Contest by Disqualification (WATCH | PHOTOS)
After his scary-strong body slam of Big Show at Capitol Punishment the night before – that poor announce table didn’t stand a chance – Mark Henry reupped for more devastation, this time against Show’s former tag team partner, Kane. As designated by the WWE Universe, the two titans clashed in an Arm Wrestling Contest (52%). The contest, which was chosen rather than an Over the Top Rope Match (35%) or a Body Slam Match (13%), showcased some menacing muscle.

In the end, The Big Red Monster would prevail by disqualification when Henry reached across the table and clocked his opponent. Henry then craved a sequel to his earlier slaughter. As he had done the night before with The World’s Largest Athlete, he hoisted up his adversary and hurled him mercilessly through the announce table with The World’s Strongest Slam.

Mason Ryan def. Evan Bourne (WATCH | PHOTOS)
Evan Bourne was forced to compete in a flight vs. might duel when Mason Ryan captured the majority of votes (51%), topping both Sin Cara (30%) and Jack Swagger (19%). Despite some high-altitude heroics on the part of Bourne, the massive Welshman pummeled his much smaller opponent for the victory.

Kelly Kelly def. WWE Divas Champion Brie Bella (WATCH | PHOTOS)
The people have spoken – and so has Kelly Kelly, loud and clear. After being chosen to take on WWE Divas Champion Brie Bella, Kelly Kelly (53%), who beat out Beth Phoenix (36%) and Eve (11%), took full advantage. With Brie’s equally tricky twin, Nikki, looking on, Kelly relieved the former champion of the title and began her very first championship reign with the butterfly-emblazoned title.

Raw GM arranged Triple Threat Match to determine No. 1 contender for WWE Title (WATCH)
Go ahead, Punk, keeping digging yourself deeper. The Second City Savior not only insulted the WWE Universe by flat-out telling them their choices during the night’s Raw: Power to the People would be horrible, he also insulted the anonymous Raw GM by insisting he get an opportunity to face WWE Champion John Cena for the title at Money in the Bank in Chicago next month, he continued to interrupt the GM’s decisions. All this led the GM to force Punk to face both Alberto Del Rio and Rey Mysterio in a Triple Threat Match to determine the No. 1 contender for the WWE Title later tonight.

CM Punk Promises "Monumental" Event On RAW

CM Punk Promises "Monumental" Event On RAW
Posted by Dave Mitchell on 06/20/2011 at 02:33 PM

    - CM Punk is something "monumental" on tonight's 3-hour "Power To The People" edition of WWE RAW. CM Punk wrote on his Facebook page today:

"Last night at Capitol Punishment, I not only defeated Rey Mysterio, I also vowed to perform the most honest act in WWE history. Join me on tonight's Power to the People episode of Monday night Raw, and witness the genesis of something monumental."

It has been widely reported that CM Punk will be leaving WWE when his WWE contract expires this summer. Since making the above announcement on Facebook earlier today, Punk's Facebook page has been bombarded with fan comments telling him not to leave WWE.

Alex Riley injured at Capitol Punishment?

Alex Riley injured at Capitol Punishment?
Posted by Roscoe De Soto on 06/20/2011 at 11:42 AM

It's being reported that Alex Riley's right bicep was badly bruised after his match against The Miz at last night's WWE Capitol Punishment PPV.

As of right now there is no confirmation on the severity of the injury, however, the worst case scenario would be a torn bicep tendon.
