-- Angle said he believes TNA will be in a ratings war with the WWE within two to three years, much like it was during the late-'90s when it was WWE and WCW. He said TNA has come a long way in five years and has gone further than the WWE did in their first five years.
(novum/lb)
Mike Knox def. Stevie Richards Big Show def. Colin Delaney ECW Champion Kane & CM Punk def. Chavo Guerrero & Shelton Benjamin
MIAMI While some WWE Superstars, such as CM Punk and Kane, have been basking in the glow of what transpired on Sunday night in Orlando, Fla., many were experiencing the effects of a WrestleMania XXIV hangover, especially Chavo Guerrero. The self-proclaimed Mexican Warrior lost his ECW gold to the Big Red Machine, and it seems he wont rest until he earns it back.
Meanwhile, Stevie Richards recent stroke of misfortune continued. The ECW Original was one of 23 Superstars who lost the Battle Royal to eventual ECW Champion Kane at WrestleMania. Then on ECW, the rivalry between Mike Knox and Richards came to a head when they met in one-on-one action for the first time.
For the last few weeks, these two ECW Superstars have been attacking each other in locker room. When they met in tag action last week, Knox & Layla were victorious over Richards & Kelly Kelly. Knoxs winning streak continued this week when he picked up a solo victory over the ECW Original. Where will their rivalry lead next?
In other ECW action, April Fools Day paid a visit to the Land of the Extreme when General Manager Armando Estrada said he was ready to offer Colin Delaney a contract to be a WWE Superstar. Too bad for Delaney it was April 1, and instead of a contract, Estrada presented Delaney with a giant challenge: Big Show.
Delaney would earn his coveted contract if he could beat the 7-footer, but the youngster didnt stand a chance. In mere minutes, Big Show picked up an easy victory, then offered a warning to The Great Khali, who confronted The Worlds Largest Athlete the night before on Raw.
Finally, a retribution-seeking Guerrero teamed up with a vengeful Shelton Benjamin in tag team action against Kane & CM Punk. The new ECW Champion and Mr. Money in the Bank proved why they were victorious on Sunday at WrestleMania, picking up the win on ECW. (WATCH)
WWE unhappy with this week's RAW rating Posted by Bobby Spade on 04/02/2008 at 01:05 PM
Internally WWE was not happy with the Raw rating from Monday night. The company was expecting the show to do at least a 4.0 coming out of WrestleMania. The show ended up doing a 3.9 rating. WWE did not even have the rating sent out company-wide due to how disappointed they were with it. Usually WWE sends the RAW rating out to some members of the staff, but not this week.
Cryme Tyme def. Lance Cade & Trevor Murdoch Paul London & Brian Kendrick def. World Tag Team Champions Hardcore Holly & Cody Rhodes (non-title) Intercontinental Champion Chris Jericho def. CM Punk (non-title) WWE Champion Randy Orton def. Matt Hardy (non-title) Maria def. Santino Marella in an Anything Goes Match
ORLANDO, Fla. CM Punk is learning that being Mr. Money in the Bank has its privileges. But one of its biggest drawbacks is that other Superstars want to use you as a stepping stone and test of their mettle.
On Raw, the newest Money in the Bank winner went head-to-head with one of his opponents from the night before Intercontinental Champion Chris Jericho. And Y2J was out to prove that Punks victory over him and five other Superstars was a fluke.
During the fast-paced match, Y2J countered Punks Go To Sleep, then pulled the Straightedge Superstar in close and hit the Codebreaker to score the pinfall.
Jericho got the redemption he wanted, but Punk had the satisfaction that he took the Intercontinental Champion to the limit proving when the time comes to cash in the Money in the Bank briefcase, hell be a threat to any champions gold.
Hands full for Orton With the WWE Championship shining on his shoulder, Randy Orton crowed about defeating both Triple H and John Cena at WrestleMania, declaring his reign as champion the Age of Orton. But John Bradshaw Layfield had other ideas, telling the third-generation Superstar he deserved a title match as a reward for proving that he was the toughest Superstar on Raw in his Belfast Brawl victory 24 hours earlier.
As Orton yelled at the departing self-made millionaire, Matt Hardy slipped into the ring and attacked the champion from behind. The man who Orton punted in the head months ago, lengthening his recovery from a ruptured appendix, wanted revenge on the Legend Killer. Hardy later demanded a match with Orton a request granted by General Manager William Regal.
Hardy had Orton on the ropes, hitting the Twist of Fate on the WWE Champion on the floor. But instead of leaving Orton outside the ring and winning by countout, Hardy rolled him back into the ring, where the cunning champion used his last ounce of strength to shock Hardy with an RKO and cover him for the pinfall victory.
As Orton caught his breath in the locker room, JBL approached the champion, picked up the WWE Title for a long look, and dropped it back in the champs lap another reminder that the millionaire was gunning for Raws top Superstar and his gold.
Settling the score Maria begged her former boyfriend, Santino Marella, to call off their Anything Goes Match on Raw. But her former beau refused, saying he thought Divas belonged in the kitchen, not in the ring. Bad idea, buddy!
A cadre of Divas Ashley, Victoria, Mickie James, Jillian, Michelle McCool, Kelly Kelly and Melina all attacked Santino during the match, aiding Maria. They slammed him to the mat and held him down, allowing Maria to crush Marellas grapefruits with a booming head butt. She rolled up the wounded Italian for an easy 1-2-3 as the Divas celebrated her victory.
Standing Tall Sporting a bruised jaw from Floyd Money Mayweathers loaded punch at WrestleMania, the Big Show said that he was ready to go back to his old championship ways, dominating the WWE as the Largest Athlete in the World.
But the Great Khali begged to differ. The Punjabi Giant interrupted Big Show, and got in the giants face. Khali yelled at Show in his Punjab dialect, but when the 441-pounder threatened to escalate the confrontation by raising his fists, Khali chose to save it for another day.
Back on the attack Even the best of friends have disagreements. Paul London and Brian Kendrick seem to have patched up their recent problems, just in time to topple the World Tag Team Champions, Cody Rhodes & Hardcore Holly, on Raw.
In the non-title match, Kendrick was able to roll up a distracted Rhodes and bridge over for the winning pinfall. The two quick-as-a-hiccup high flyers celebrated after the match, as they served notice to the tag-team ranks that the former World and WWE Tag Team Champions are mended, and on the rise.
Brooklyn, Brooklyn While one tag team patched up their differences, another popular team of Superstars returned to Raw, challenging the former World Tag Team Champions.
JTG & Shad Cryme Tyme entered the Amway Arena to an electric welcome for their matchup with Lance Cade & Trevor Murdoch, who saw their hats sold in an impromptu ringside auction the last time they met. The boys from Brooklyn capitalized on a Murdoch mistake, allowing JTG to roll him up for a surprising pinfall victory.
Honoring the Greatest Ever One night after Nature Boy Ric Flairs career came to an end at the Citrus Bowl, all of the WWE Superstars and notable friends and opponents from Flairs illustrious career honored the 2008 Hall of Fame inductee.
The night ended with Shawn Michaels embracing the "Nature Boy," as HBK finally came to terms with his historic win over his good friend, and the burden he carries as the man who ended Flairs career.
- Rey Mysterio's biceps got infected from his initial surgery, so he's now had three operations. Many close to the situation are worried about the new procedure that was used, as Dr. James Andrews, an expert in this field, doesn't do it that way. Nonetheless Mysterio is still slated to return to the ring by June.
News on Cryme Tyme's return to WWE Posted by Bobby Spade on 03/31/2008 at 10:50 PM
Shad Gaspard and JTG returned as the tag team Cryme Tyme to WWE on tonights edition of Raw from the Amway Arena in Orlando, Florida in a match against Trevor Murdoch and Lance Cade.
It is interesting to note that both Shad and JTG posted blogs on their MySpace pages yesterday that included the letters T.N.A.B. They also changed their profile pictures on MySpace to an image of these letters. This led to speculation from their fans that they were going to TNA. Obviously the letters have another meaning or were used to throw people off before returning tonight on Raw.
Cryme Tyme was released by WWE back in September due to a backstage incident at a WWE show involving Trevor Murdoch and Lance Cade.
Update: Reader Eric Johnson reporting... I'm not sure why anyone thought T.N.A.B meant Cryme Tyme was going to TNA... try... THE NIGGAZ ARE BACK
Many wrestling fans were hopeful that Ric Flair's match against Shawn Michaels would be the final match to close out last night's WrestleMania XXIV. It turns out that Flair was offered the main event spot but turned it down.
There was a pitch made by a creative team member to have the final shot of WrestleMania be a spotlight on Flair's boots and robe. However, Flair strongly disagreed with those sentiments when the idea was brought up to him during a press conference held prior to the WWE Hall of Fame convention.
Flair told reporters that nothing is more important than the title belts and insisted that his match with Michaels did not belong in the main event position.
Emotions Backstage 'Mania Posted by Xing Hu on 03/31/2008 at 09:45 AM
- One veteran worker said that last night was one of the most emotional nights that they have ever witnessed in a WWE locker room with the retirement match of Ric Flair. When Flair returned backstage from his match against Shawn Michaels he received a very warm reception from the entire WWE roster. Many stars embraced Flair and shared tears with him.
A power failure occurred at WrestleMania XXIV during the Bunny Mania match. According to several correspondents they lost lights, all the monitors, and the huge video board above the ring. While the engineering crew worked vigorously to get the power back on, they used backup power to light the ring. Several people reported that it was very hard to see the ending of the Bunny Mania match as the backup power had very limited lighting. The power was restored shortly after the Randy Orton vs. John Cena vs. Triple H match started.

Surprise Entrant In The MITB Ladder Match Tonight? Posted by Bobby Spade on 03/30/2008 at 01:15 PM
At this morning's WWE Bacon, Bagels, and Biceps Brunch in Orlando, Florida Matt Hardy was asked when he would return to the ring. Hardy commented by saying, "tonight's a good night."
While nothing has been confirmed and it could be likely that Hardy was just telling fans what they wanted to hear, it is possible that he could be added to the Money in the Bank ladder match at tonight's WrestleMania XXIV.
After his brother Jeff was suspended for 60 days for a Wellness Policy violation, one WWE source said they were still under the impression that they would have 8 participants in the Money in the Bank ladder match. However, as we have seen on WWE television, only 7 participants have been announced.
Rey Mysterio unhappy with his current pay? Posted by Bobby Spade on 03/28/2008 at 05:38 PM
Rey Mysterio is said to be unhappy with his current pay because he doesn't feel like he's making as much as other top wrestlers in the company, reports prowrestling.NET. However, the two sides are currently negotiating a new contract. Mysterio's WWE contract expires late this year or early next year. Most WWE wrestlers are under the impression that returning stars Chris Jericho and Big Show were lured back to the company with huge downside guarantees.
-- There were a number of wrestlers in TNA who were upset over managements decision to show Robbie McAllister during Thursdays live Impact. One source said the wrestlers thought it was a classless act, since Robbie was only there to see his friend Johnny Devine work and hes now in trouble with Vince.
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. Intercontinental Champion Chris Jerichos first match on SmackDown since returning to WWE saw Y2J face United States Champion MVP in a non-title Champion vs. Champion encounter.
Both Superstars will participate in the Money in the Bank Ladder Match Sunday at WrestleMania XXIV, and in their final match before the Citrus Bowl, Jericho picked up a disqualification victory. The Ballin Superstar wasnt finished, however, and he tried to make one last statement before the career changing Ladder Match. He attacked with his gold in hand, but Y2J ducked and delivered a Codebreaker to the cocky U.S. Champion.
Jericho then made his own bold move, smashing MVP in the face with a ladder.(WATCH) The tension between these two champions is at the boiling point, and Sunday in the Money in the Bank Ladder Match, Y2J and MVP will undoubtedly look to further their career at the expense of the other. Will either competitor be successful, or will someone else step in and take the opportunity of a lifetime?
Monstrous challenge On SmackDown, four Superstars who will take part in the 24-Man Battle Royal at WrestleMania competed in an Over-the-Top-Rope Challenge. Kane, The Great Khali, Mark Henry and Chuck Palumbo all were in Fayetteville to improve their stock for WrestleMania, with ECW Champion Chavo Guerrero looking on from ringside. The Worlds Strongest Man displayed the intensity and strength that has always made him one of WWEs most feared competitors, eliminating Khali and Kane to win the challenge.
The Mexican Warrior then attempted to weaken Henry with a post match assault, but the Worlds Strongest Man demolished the ECW Champion with a Worlds Strongest Slam. With the Battle Royal to name a new No. 1 Contender to the ECW title just 48 hours away, Chavo Guerrero may have seen his grip on the gold loosen ever so slightly.
Untamed fury Just two days before he represents SmackDown in the war for brand supremacy against Raws Umaga, Batista faced the challenge of another Raw Superstar Snitsky. The Animal wasted no time decimating Raw General Manager William Regals hand-picked challenger with ease. When the bell rang, Batista speared Snitsky, delivered a spinebuster and then sealed the impressive victory with a Batista Bomb.(WATCH) If his match with Snitsky is any indication, The Animal is focused and more intense than ever heading into his match with the Samoan Bulldozer.
Loose Change Both John Morrison and CM Punk are former ECW Champions, and this Sunday at WrestleMania they will have the chance to earn a World Title Match of their choosing when they participate in the Money in the Bank Ladder Match. On SmackDown, the two faced off in a Money in the Bank Preview Match, with Punk gaining some momentum before The Granddaddy of Them All by making the WWE Tag Team Champion Go To Sleep.
Wet n Wild As the Diva Competition rolls on, Assistant General Manager Theodore Long announced that Eve was the latest Diva voted out of the running to win a custom Beverly Hills Chopper, leaving two finalists Cherry and Michelle McCool. The final duo teamed up on SmackDown to take on Victoria & Maryse in a Wet n Wild Water Fight Match, with eliminated Eve as the special referee. Also on SmackDown Rising Superstar Kofi Kingston, undefeated since debuting in ECW, joined forces with Jesse & Festus on Friday night to take on the trio of former World Tag Team Champions Cade & Murdoch and current WWE Tag Team Champion The Miz. All six Superstars will take part in the 24-Man Battle Royal at WrestleMania, but this night belonged to the Superstar from Jamaica, who picked up the win when he pinned Miz. Will one of these six young studs step up and outlast 23 other Superstars at WrestleMania XXIV and earn a title match against Chavo Guerrero?
You raise me up As World Heavyweight Champion Edge showed last week with his vicious Con-Chair-To, he is out to destroy Undertakers legacy at WrestleMania. On SmackDown, the Rated-R Superstar was joined by his fiancée, General Manager Vickie Guerrero, Curt Hawkins & Zack Ryder for a Burial of Undertakers WrestleMania Undefeated Streak. The ceremony was cut short when Edges WrestleMania opponent appeared and tried to send one last message before their showdown on Sunday.(WATCH)
- Gregory Helms is back in the gym following his neck fusion surgery. He said he is healing up slower than he would like but doesnt want to come back less than 100%.
Snitsky pins Tommy Dreamer (24-Man Tag Team Match) Shelton Benjamin def. Carlito Mike Knox & Layla def. Stevie Richards & Kelly Kelly (Mixed Tag Team Match) ECW Champion Chavo Guerrero def. Tommy Dreamer (non-title)
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. Just five days before The Granddaddy of Them All, Superstars got a taste of whats in store for them Sunday at WrestleMania XXIV.
Shelton Benjamin and Carlito looked to sneak a peek at the money that will dangle above them when they face each other along with CM Punk, John Morrison, Chris Jericho, Mr. Kennedy and Montel Vontavious Porter with a title opportunity on the line. If the Money in the Bank Preview Match is any indication, Carlito has some work to do before heading to Orlando, Fla., as the self-proclaimed Coolest Superstar in WWE fell to the Gold Standard. (WATCH)
Later in the evening, Kelly Kelly & Stevie Richards teamed up to take on Layla & Mike Knox. Kellys ex-boyfriend and the ECW Original have traded attacks in the locker room during the past several weeks, though the two had never met before in the squared circle. Kelly and Layla have had their own intense rivalry brewing for months, ever since Layla assisted The Miz in making the blondes life a living hell.
Knox & Layla came out on top this time as Kelly's ex pinned Richards to get the win. The two Divas will see each other again at WrestleMania as Lumberjacks in Playboys BunnyMania Match, pitting Womens Champion Beth Phoenix & Melina against Maria & Ashley.
In addition to the Divas and the Money in the Bank Ladder Match competitors, 24 other Superstars got a pay-per-view preview. ECW on Sci Fi kicked off with a 24-Man Tag Team Match, featuring all participants of WrestleManias 24-Man Battle Royal, which will broadcast exclusively on WWE.com. Sundays humongous contest will determine who faces Chavo Guerrero for his ECW Title later that night. Snitsky earned the victory for his team at the expense of Tommy Dreamer, who sprang up from the canvas and wasted no time in challenging Guerrero to a non-title bout later in the night.
The ECW Original wasn't able to prove himself in the main event, as Guerrero hit him with the three-count. Before anyone could leave the ring, each of the 23 other competitors in the 24-Man Battle Royal joined the action in an all-out brawl, suggesting ECW may be a preview that the Mexican Warrior should keep in mind in seeing two dozen Superstars hungry for gold.
