Emotions Backstage 'Mania Posted by Xing Hu on 03/31/2008 at 09:45 AM
- One veteran worker said that last night was one of the most emotional nights that they have ever witnessed in a WWE locker room with the retirement match of Ric Flair. When Flair returned backstage from his match against Shawn Michaels he received a very warm reception from the entire WWE roster. Many stars embraced Flair and shared tears with him.
A power failure occurred at WrestleMania XXIV during the Bunny Mania match. According to several correspondents they lost lights, all the monitors, and the huge video board above the ring. While the engineering crew worked vigorously to get the power back on, they used backup power to light the ring. Several people reported that it was very hard to see the ending of the Bunny Mania match as the backup power had very limited lighting. The power was restored shortly after the Randy Orton vs. John Cena vs. Triple H match started.

Surprise Entrant In The MITB Ladder Match Tonight? Posted by Bobby Spade on 03/30/2008 at 01:15 PM
At this morning's WWE Bacon, Bagels, and Biceps Brunch in Orlando, Florida Matt Hardy was asked when he would return to the ring. Hardy commented by saying, "tonight's a good night."
While nothing has been confirmed and it could be likely that Hardy was just telling fans what they wanted to hear, it is possible that he could be added to the Money in the Bank ladder match at tonight's WrestleMania XXIV.
After his brother Jeff was suspended for 60 days for a Wellness Policy violation, one WWE source said they were still under the impression that they would have 8 participants in the Money in the Bank ladder match. However, as we have seen on WWE television, only 7 participants have been announced.
Rey Mysterio unhappy with his current pay? Posted by Bobby Spade on 03/28/2008 at 05:38 PM
Rey Mysterio is said to be unhappy with his current pay because he doesn't feel like he's making as much as other top wrestlers in the company, reports prowrestling.NET. However, the two sides are currently negotiating a new contract. Mysterio's WWE contract expires late this year or early next year. Most WWE wrestlers are under the impression that returning stars Chris Jericho and Big Show were lured back to the company with huge downside guarantees.
-- There were a number of wrestlers in TNA who were upset over managements decision to show Robbie McAllister during Thursdays live Impact. One source said the wrestlers thought it was a classless act, since Robbie was only there to see his friend Johnny Devine work and hes now in trouble with Vince.
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. Intercontinental Champion Chris Jerichos first match on SmackDown since returning to WWE saw Y2J face United States Champion MVP in a non-title Champion vs. Champion encounter.
Both Superstars will participate in the Money in the Bank Ladder Match Sunday at WrestleMania XXIV, and in their final match before the Citrus Bowl, Jericho picked up a disqualification victory. The Ballin Superstar wasnt finished, however, and he tried to make one last statement before the career changing Ladder Match. He attacked with his gold in hand, but Y2J ducked and delivered a Codebreaker to the cocky U.S. Champion.
Jericho then made his own bold move, smashing MVP in the face with a ladder.(WATCH) The tension between these two champions is at the boiling point, and Sunday in the Money in the Bank Ladder Match, Y2J and MVP will undoubtedly look to further their career at the expense of the other. Will either competitor be successful, or will someone else step in and take the opportunity of a lifetime?
Monstrous challenge On SmackDown, four Superstars who will take part in the 24-Man Battle Royal at WrestleMania competed in an Over-the-Top-Rope Challenge. Kane, The Great Khali, Mark Henry and Chuck Palumbo all were in Fayetteville to improve their stock for WrestleMania, with ECW Champion Chavo Guerrero looking on from ringside. The Worlds Strongest Man displayed the intensity and strength that has always made him one of WWEs most feared competitors, eliminating Khali and Kane to win the challenge.
The Mexican Warrior then attempted to weaken Henry with a post match assault, but the Worlds Strongest Man demolished the ECW Champion with a Worlds Strongest Slam. With the Battle Royal to name a new No. 1 Contender to the ECW title just 48 hours away, Chavo Guerrero may have seen his grip on the gold loosen ever so slightly.
Untamed fury Just two days before he represents SmackDown in the war for brand supremacy against Raws Umaga, Batista faced the challenge of another Raw Superstar Snitsky. The Animal wasted no time decimating Raw General Manager William Regals hand-picked challenger with ease. When the bell rang, Batista speared Snitsky, delivered a spinebuster and then sealed the impressive victory with a Batista Bomb.(WATCH) If his match with Snitsky is any indication, The Animal is focused and more intense than ever heading into his match with the Samoan Bulldozer.
Loose Change Both John Morrison and CM Punk are former ECW Champions, and this Sunday at WrestleMania they will have the chance to earn a World Title Match of their choosing when they participate in the Money in the Bank Ladder Match. On SmackDown, the two faced off in a Money in the Bank Preview Match, with Punk gaining some momentum before The Granddaddy of Them All by making the WWE Tag Team Champion Go To Sleep.
Wet n Wild As the Diva Competition rolls on, Assistant General Manager Theodore Long announced that Eve was the latest Diva voted out of the running to win a custom Beverly Hills Chopper, leaving two finalists Cherry and Michelle McCool. The final duo teamed up on SmackDown to take on Victoria & Maryse in a Wet n Wild Water Fight Match, with eliminated Eve as the special referee. This match was exactly as advertised wet n wild, with McCool picking up the win for her and Cherry with the Wings of Love. Who will win the Diva Competition? Your votes count so be sure to text your favorite SmackDown Divas name to 44993! (WATCH) More on this competition...
Also on SmackDown Rising Superstar Kofi Kingston, undefeated since debuting in ECW, joined forces with Jesse & Festus on Friday night to take on the trio of former World Tag Team Champions Cade & Murdoch and current WWE Tag Team Champion The Miz. All six Superstars will take part in the 24-Man Battle Royal at WrestleMania, but this night belonged to the Superstar from Jamaica, who picked up the win when he pinned Miz. Will one of these six young studs step up and outlast 23 other Superstars at WrestleMania XXIV and earn a title match against Chavo Guerrero?
You raise me up As World Heavyweight Champion Edge showed last week with his vicious Con-Chair-To, he is out to destroy Undertakers legacy at WrestleMania. On SmackDown, the Rated-R Superstar was joined by his fiancée, General Manager Vickie Guerrero, Curt Hawkins & Zack Ryder for a Burial of Undertakers WrestleMania Undefeated Streak. The ceremony was cut short when Edges WrestleMania opponent appeared and tried to send one last message before their showdown on Sunday.(WATCH)
- Gregory Helms is back in the gym following his neck fusion surgery. He said he is healing up slower than he would like but doesnt want to come back less than 100%.
Snitsky pins Tommy Dreamer (24-Man Tag Team Match) Shelton Benjamin def. Carlito Mike Knox & Layla def. Stevie Richards & Kelly Kelly (Mixed Tag Team Match) ECW Champion Chavo Guerrero def. Tommy Dreamer (non-title)
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. Just five days before The Granddaddy of Them All, Superstars got a taste of whats in store for them Sunday at WrestleMania XXIV.
Shelton Benjamin and Carlito looked to sneak a peek at the money that will dangle above them when they face each other along with CM Punk, John Morrison, Chris Jericho, Mr. Kennedy and Montel Vontavious Porter with a title opportunity on the line. If the Money in the Bank Preview Match is any indication, Carlito has some work to do before heading to Orlando, Fla., as the self-proclaimed Coolest Superstar in WWE fell to the Gold Standard. (WATCH)
Later in the evening, Kelly Kelly & Stevie Richards teamed up to take on Layla & Mike Knox. Kellys ex-boyfriend and the ECW Original have traded attacks in the locker room during the past several weeks, though the two had never met before in the squared circle. Kelly and Layla have had their own intense rivalry brewing for months, ever since Layla assisted The Miz in making the blondes life a living hell.
Knox & Layla came out on top this time as Kelly's ex pinned Richards to get the win. The two Divas will see each other again at WrestleMania as Lumberjacks in Playboys BunnyMania Match, pitting Womens Champion Beth Phoenix & Melina against Maria & Ashley.
In addition to the Divas and the Money in the Bank Ladder Match competitors, 24 other Superstars got a pay-per-view preview. ECW on Sci Fi kicked off with a 24-Man Tag Team Match, featuring all participants of WrestleManias 24-Man Battle Royal, which will broadcast exclusively on WWE.com. Sundays humongous contest will determine who faces Chavo Guerrero for his ECW Title later that night. Snitsky earned the victory for his team at the expense of Tommy Dreamer, who sprang up from the canvas and wasted no time in challenging Guerrero to a non-title bout later in the night.
The ECW Original wasn't able to prove himself in the main event, as Guerrero hit him with the three-count. Before anyone could leave the ring, each of the 23 other competitors in the 24-Man Battle Royal joined the action in an all-out brawl, suggesting ECW may be a preview that the Mexican Warrior should keep in mind in seeing two dozen Superstars hungry for gold.
(novum/vsv)
UPLAND, Calif. Candice Michelle underwent successful surgery Monday afternoon at the San Antonio Ambulatory Surgical Center. The operation was scheduled shortly after the Diva re-injured her clavicle on Raw a week ago in her first match back after nearly five months of recovery.
It was my fault, Candice had informed WWE.com only hours before her surgery. I was getting ready for a dropkick, and I thought it might be more effective if I landed on my back. I landed on my left shoulder and hurt [the clavicle] right then and there.
The fall led to Candice not only re-breaking her clavicle, but completely displacing it as well. In the previous instance, the bone had still been aligned and therefore did not require surgery. But now, any activity, wrestling or otherwise, could have caused further significant damage.
The doctor said I could take a non-surgical route, but it would take a minimum of six months doing nothing, she said. Ive been dying already, after having been out for five months. Im completely ready to get it fixed and be able to make a real comeback to the ring.
Although she will not be able to participate in the BunnyMania Match at WrestleMania XXIV, Candice will not let the operation keep her from attending The Granddaddy of Them All. She'll be supporting Maria in Orlando, Fla., no matter what.
Dont get me wrong Im a little scared, Candice admitted. Ive never had surgery of this nature. At the same time, the healing process is a lot quicker once you have a plate and pins in there, and I can start rehabbing almost immediately.
The Diva was upset that she would not be able to enter the squared circle this Sunday, but she understands how this surgery will benefit her in the long run. It provides her with a chance to truly recover from an injury that has aggravated her for some time.
It was hard for me to come back to Monday Night Raw, she said. In my heart, I didnt feel like I was really coming back because I was still being held back by my injury. It was hard to be in the same building as Beth Phoenix, and know that I couldnt get back into that ring and show people the fire that I had in my heart.
The Womens Champion isnt completely off the hook, however. Candice hasnt yet had an opportunity for revenge against the in-ring Glamazon whom she holds responsible for her initial injury. But that day may not be so far away.
For me to miss out on things like WrestleMania, the fire has built up that much more. When I return, its going to be a real comeback this time.
Stay tuned to WWE.com for updates on Candice Michelles condition.
United States Champion MVP & Carlito def. Intercontinental Champion Chris Jericho & CM Punk The Great Khali def. Hardcore Holly Santino Marella, Melina & Womens Champion Beth Phoenix def. Jerry The King Lawler, Maria & Ashley in an Intergender Tag Team Match Ric Flair, Shawn Michaels, Triple H & John Cena def. Umaga, John Bradshaw Layfield, The Big Show & WWE Champion Randy Orton in a No-Disqualification WrestleMania Showcase Match
COLUMBIA, S.C. United States Champion Montel Vontavious Porter and Carlito will be enemies this Sunday in the Money in the Bank Ladder Match, as a championship contract hangs above them at WrestleMania.
But for one night at the Colonial Center, the Franchise Playa and the cool customer worked like a well-oiled machine, defeating Intercontinental Champion Chris Jericho & former ECW Champion CM Punk in a Money in the Bank preview on Raw. Watch the video | Photos
In the end, it was a mistake by Y2J that cost his team the match. As Punk and MVP fought, the U.S. Champ ducked Jerichos enzuiguri attempt and it caught Punks chin, stunning the Straightedge Superstar. Carlito pulled the Intercontinental Champ from the ring, allowing the SmackDown Superstar to roll up Punk for the pinfall.
As the foursome stepped from the ring, they knew that the pinfall wouldnt matter this Sunday. Only the man that pulls the prized Money in the Bank briefcase from its 20-foot-high perch at the Citrus Bowl will make his championship dreams become reality.
Old Yeller?! At home in Flair Country, Ric Flair told the Colonial Center crowd that he had lost respect for his friend and WrestleMania opponent, Shawn Michaels who made a crucial save in Flairs match against Mr. McMahon last week. Flair blasted HBK for having no confidence in him against the Chairman.
The Showstopper came to the ring, and swore he was doing what he thought Flair would have done in the same circumstance. He again promised to leave everything in the ring against the Nature Boy, and Flair reiterated that he expected nothing less from Mr. WrestleMania. He showed HBK his NWA World Championship Title that he won in 1981, and said he wanted Michaels to bring out the best in him for one more night. Watch the video | Photos
As HBK turned to leave, he reminded Flair of the story of Old Yeller and how a family had to put their cherished dog out of its misery when it was sick. HBK promised to dispatch the Nature Boys career in a similar manner, which enraged Flair enough to slap The Showstopper twice in the face. Michaels left the angry Nature Boy fuming in the ring.
Giant problems In a preview of the 24-man Battle Royal at WrestleMania, The Great Khali established himself as the odds-on favorite to earn an ECW Championship opportunity by defeating one-half of the World Tag Team Champions, Hardcore Holly. Photos
In a match famous for its everyone for themselves attitude, itll likely take a group effort to topple the Punjabi giant in the Citrus Bowl.
Gender bending A one-on-one Divas contest between Maria and Melina became an Intergender Tag Team Match as Ashley, Beth Phoenix, Santino Marella and Jerry The King Lawler got involved in the proceedings.
With intergender rules allowing men to wrestle women, Marella frequently found himself grappling in the ring with his former girlfriend and current Playboy cover girl.
But as Maria sent Santino to the outside, Melina and The Glamazon swept out Marias legs with a crushing chop block from behind. Santino rolled back into the ring and covered his former love interest for the 1-2-3. Watch the video | Photos
After the match, it was learned that Ashley will replace the injured Candice Michelle in the BunnyMania Match at WrestleMania, as she and Maria will face Beth Phoenix and Melina.
Eight is enough General Manager William Regal ordered eight of WWEs top Superstars battling this Sunday to face off in the nights main event. In the no-disqualification WrestleMania Showcase Eight-Man Tag Team Match, John Cena, Triple H, Ric Flair & Shawn Michaels competed against Big Show, Umaga, John Bradshaw Layfield & WWE Champion Randy Orton. But few of the combatants stayed in the ring for long, being pulled away by their WrestleMania opponents.
With only HBK and Flair left to face Orton, the Nature Boy went for his patented Figure-Four Leglock, but HBK broke up the attempt. Still seething from Michaels promise earlier in the evening that hed end Flairs misery at WrestleMania, the Dirtiest Player in the Game low-blowed his friend, then slapped the Figure-Four on Orton until the WWE Champion tapped out.
Jericho believes the MITB ladder match is the best part of mania just because its a new spectacle where creativity is a must, since there is so many ladder matches, it has to be different. He also promises something unique and never seen before in a ladder match.
TNA officials are hoping that Sting's return to TNA next week will be enough to increase curiosity & interest in the promotion. TNA doesn't really have any other "surprises" left in the bag because Hulk Hogan is definitely not coming in and Rob Van Dam has no interest in wrestling at the moment.
PWInsider.com reports that Konnan filed a lawsuit against TNA Wrestling in which he accuses the company of racial discrimination. The lawsuit includes allegations of drug use among "higher ups" in the company

BILOXI, Miss. They say strange things happen on the night of a full moon. But it didnt take lunar activity, just the onset of WrestleMania XXIV for wild things to take place on Friday Night SmackDown. A Deadman, a Big Red Monster, an Animal, a Silverback, two 7-foot giants and a Rated-R Superstar were on the prowl, looking to vanquish their opponents on The Road to WrestleMania.
MVPs VIP Lounge For the first time in almost six years, Raws Chris Jericho paid a visit to the land of SmackDown as a guest on U.S. Champion MVPs VIP Lounge. The two Money in the Bank Ladder Match opponents traded verbal barbs, including Jericho poking fun at alternative names for MVP. The self-proclaimed highest paid entertainer tried to elevate himself with a lot of tough talk, but Jericho literally brought him back down to earth when he knocked the United States Champion from atop a ladder in the ring. (WATCH) Is this symbolic of what were going to see when the two meet in just nine days at WrestleMania?
One Punch KO For yet another week, Big Show crushed those foolish enough to step into the ring with the angry, dominant giant. This week, it was three competitors who fell victim to the 7-footer. Big Show made quick work of the trio, finishing off the least fortunate with a powerful knock-out blow, followed by an easy pin. As the WrestleMania showdown between Big Show and Floyd Mayweather draws near, the risk for the boxing champion appears to increase with each passing week.
Rampaging Animal The look in Batistas eyes on SmackDown told the story: You dont want to get in his way not now, not when The Granddaddy of Them All is just nine days away. Deuce & Domino found this out the hard way, as The Animal went on the offensive right from the start of their 2-on-1 Handicap Match. Despite their two-man advantage, the former WWE Tag Team Champions were no match for their opponent, who Batista Bombed Domino for a decisive win. The Animal appears to be right on form to face Umaga in their Raw vs. SmackDown battle for brand supremacy at WrestleMania.
Tag Titles Intact Earlier in the week on ECW, things looked promising for the Biscuits n Gravy team when Festus pinned The Miz in a Six-Man Tag Match. But with the WWE Tag Team Titles on the line on Friday Night SmackDown, this time it was The Miz who pinned Jesse. The Shaman of Sexy must be content with keeping tag team gold in place, but will be looking for future gold if he can succeed in the Money in the Bank Ladder Match.
Also on SmackDown Just when you thought you were watching two of SmackDowns biggest men do battle Kane and Chuck Palumbo The Great Khali made his way into the arena and made the encounter that much bigger. Khali went right for Kane and delivered a Khali Bomb, ending the match without a victor.
But, the parade of big men wasnt over, as the Worlds Strongest Man Mark Henry came into the arena to make his mark. The self-proclaimed Silverback went on a path of destruction, first lifting and slamming the 400-pound Punjabi giant, then laying waste to Palumbo with a massive avalanche, and finally lifting and slamming Kane to the canvas. The four will meet again in the WrestleMania 24-Man Battle Royal. Will Henry be able to repeat this display of dominance, or will one of SmackDowns big men deliver some payback on The Grandest Stage of Them All?
Although compared to the likes of Khali and Henry, the competitors were smaller in stature, but the animosity was just a fierce when the SmackDown Diva Contest continued on Friday. In an Arm Wrestling Competition, Michelle McCool took first place yet again this week. Then, SmackDown Assistant General Manager Theodore Long delivered the bad news to Victoria fans that she was eliminated from the competition, according to your votes. (WATCH) Next week, the Divas continue to battle it out, hoping to win the custom Beverly Hills Chopper. More on this competition
Harmful melody When World Heavyweight Champion Edge defeated Funaki, he borrowed some of Undertakers signature moves by mocking the Phenoms RIP gesture and using the Tombstone Piledriver to dismantle his opponent. After the champions easy win, he grabbed the ring mic and let it be known: Tonight, I step up to a whole new level.
Later in the night, the Ultimate Opportunist delivered on his promise. Though Undertaker defeated ECW Champion Chavo Guerrero using his blood-drawing submission move, Edge, Curt Hawkins and Zack Ryder launched a steel-chair attack on The Phenom. In an ugly display, the Rated-R entourage relentlessly pummeled an outnumbered Undertaker, with the champion ultimately knocking out his WrestleMania opponent with a brutal Con-Chair-To.
