Burano (Quick simple fun games)
In Burano gaan de spelers bouwen aan het eiland Burano. De typisch, kenmerkende gekleurde huizen worden stelselmatig opgebouwd op wel een héél speciale en unieke manier. De spelers hebben bij aanvang van een ronde een aantal van deze gekleurde stenen in hun voorraad. Hiermee bouwen ze een piramide op die ze in de loop van de ronde (seizoen) terug gaan demonteren en inzetten om bepaalde acties uit te voeren. De volgorde waarin ze hun stenen dus opbouwen is enorm belangrijk, want enkel vrijliggende stenen kunnen gebruikt worden. In de loop van het spel gaan de spelers vissen, kant maken en de huizen bouwen, waarvoor ze allemaal overwinningspunten scoren. De speler die het meeste punten weet te vergaren, wint het spel.
In de boordevolle doos vinden we erg kleurrijk speelmateriaal : 1 speelbord, 1 actiebord, 1 hoofdeiland-speelbord (waarin de blokjes netjes op hun plaats blijven zitten), 18 aanleghuizen in 6 kleuren, 48 daktegels (in 4 soorten), 4 seizoensfiches, 120 gekleurde blokjes (20 van elke kleur), 4 handelsscheepsfiches, 12 kantwerkhuizenfiches, 6 gekleurde actiefiches, 33 munten, 48 viskaarten, 16 gebouwkaarten, 4 spelersborden, 4 ringfiches (bestaande uit vier stukken), 52 arbeidersfiches, 1 startspelerfiche, 4 tijdswielen en 4 vissersbootjes. De opstelling vergt wel wat werk maar wordt netjes en overzichtelijk weergegeven in de spelregels. Zowel de opstelling van het algemene speelbord als de individuele spelersborden worden met afbeeldingen voorgesteld.
Het spel verloopt over 4 seizoenen, opgedeeld in 14 ronden (zijnde 4 in de lente en zomer en 3 in de herfst en winter). Een ronde bestaat telkens uit 3 grote fasen : 1) het opbouwen van de piramide met beschikbare blokken 2) de acties van de spelers : waarbij ze hun piramide terug afbreken, huizen gaan bouwen, kantklossen en gaan vissen 3) opschonen : tussentijdse tellingen leveren punten op, nieuwe blokjes worden verworven, de voorraden worden aangevuld en de startspeler schuift door.
Het opbouwen van de piramide : de spelers gaan met de blokjes uit hun voorraad (die elke ronde door de spelers simultaan uit de algemene voorraad gekozen worden) een piramide bouwen, bestaande uit een basis van 9 (3x3) blokjes, met daarop een verdiep van 4 (2x2) blokjes en 1 blokje als top. Resterende blokjes worden afgelegd en leveren je 1 munt op. Indien je met minder dan 14 blokken aan de slag moet gaan, bouw je eerst de basis en zo omhoog. Deze opbouw moet binnen 1 minuut gebeuren en je mag niet spieken wat de andere spelers aan het doen zijn.
De spelers voeren, afhankelijk van het seizoen, 4 of 3 actieronden uit. In een actieronde mag een speler tot 4 mogelijke acties uitvoeren. De mogelijke acties die de spelers kunnen ondernemen zijn : A) Kies een huis : leg één vrijliggend blokje uit je piramide op één van de drie velden in de voorbereidingsvakken van je spelersbord. Indien deze alle drie gevuld zijn, mag je deze actie niet kiezen. B) Bouw een huis : leg één van de blokjes uit je voorbereidingsvelden op het algemene speelbord, aangrenzend aan een eerder gelegd blokje en voer de desbetreffende actie (die overeenkomt met de gezette kleur) uit. C) Plaats een dak : plaats één van de daktegels uit je persoonlijke voorraad op twee blokjes op het algemene speelbord en scoor de punten en voordelen van de daktegel. De kleur van de blokjes moet overeenkomen met die op de daktegel. Je kan enkel verticaal of horizontaal bouwen, max. 3 hoog en mag niet overlappen of daken laten overhangen (wat op zich allemaal logisch is). Als beloning krijg je 2 privilegepunten OF kies je één gebouwkaart. Je scoort ook de punten of het effect dat op de daktegel staat. Indien je geen van bovenstaande acties kan of wil uitvoeren, ontvang je 1 munt.
De acties van het speelbord : afhankelijk van de kleur van ingezette huis ga je één van de drie mogelijke acties mogen uitvoeren bij het bouwen van een huis. De kleuren worden elk seizoen herverdeeld en willekeurig bij de acties geplaatst. Elke actie hangt vast aan twee mogelijke kleuren. 1) Vissen : beweeg je vissersboot naar een aangrenzend eiland of de haven (één stap). Probeer de kleuren van je ring te laten overeenkomen met die van de eilanden. Dit is eigenlijk niet met woorden uit te leggen en moet u op het voorbeeld kunnen zien. Maar afhankelijk van het aantal overeenkomstige kleurtjes krijg je een aantal viskaarten op handen als je op een eiland zit. Staat je vissersboot i de haven, kan je eerder verworven viskaarten gaan inruilen voor punten. Zo vragen de handelsscheepstegel dezelfde viskaarten, diverse soorten, paartjes of drie dezelfde kaarten. Na het vissen worden arbeiders ingezet op het eiland waar er gevist is. Ook dit hangt af van het aantal overeenkomstige kleuren. Op deze manier gaan de arbeiders van je ring naar het speelbord en worden symbolen op je ring vrijgespeeld die tijdens de inkomsten dan weer van toepassing zijn.
2) Kantklossen : werkt in zekere zin een beetje gelijkaardig als het vissen. Dit keer ga je je arbeiders echter inzetten op de kantklosfabrieken op het centrale deel van het speelbord. Belangrijk is dat arbeiders hier aan elkaar moeten grenzen en dat je dus echt goed de kleuren moet gaan combineren. Ook nu weer worden arbeiders van je ring weggespeeld, zodat de inkomsten gaan verhogen. Indien je een veld afdekt in het fabriek met een muntsymbool, ontvang je één munt.
3) Inkomsten : voor elke zichtbare munt op je ring ontvang je één munt. Optioneel mag je voor elke teruggetrokken arbeider van de eilanden één extra munt per arbeider toevoegen. De arbeiders komen dan terug op je ring te liggen van het laagste nummer naar het hoogste.
Na een seizoen volgt er een opschoonfase waarin een tussentelling plaatsvindt. Je scoort punten voor meerderheden aan arbeiders op de eilanden en voor arbeiders op de kleuren in kantklosfabrieken die overeenkomen met resterende blokken in je piramide. Je scoort 2 punten voor elke steen die je kan afgeven en die overeenkomt met één van je arbeiders in de kantklosfabriek. Tenslotte is er een bonus voor het aantal aangrenzende arbeiders in de fabriek. Na het scoren worden de actiekleuren terug geschud en verdeeld, krijg je nieuwe blokjes (afh. van het aantal vrijgespeelde huissymbolen op hun ring). Privilegepunten die je tijdens het spel verdient, kunnen gebruikt worden om extra te vissen, arbeiders van tegenstanders uit de fabriek te gooien of extra blokken te nemen uit de voorraad bij het opbouwen van de piramide in een volgende ronde.
