"Then, we have the small issue of textbooks. In Singapore, the ministry of education has a list of approved textbooks that have been written by experts. The textbooks, which are an integral tool of a mastery curriculum, are written so that one exercise follows another in a smooth progression. Even the common misconceptions have been mapped out and worked into the teaching sequence that runs alongside the textbooks. How can English teachers mimic this approach with a few worksheets cobbled together from TES resources?
Many primary teachers have only a GCSE in maths; how can they be expected to map out a sequence of exercises which includes all the possibilities for common misconceptions in their spare time. Added to this burden is the fact that worksheets will need to be personalised. It seems to me that this aspect alone negates the possibility of teaching a mastery curriculum in English primary schools. "
