Niveaudaling taalvaardigheid als gevolg van progressief en leerling-gecentreerd onderwijs
*Years of progressive, child-centred and relevant education have conspired to keep the masses down by restricting their ability to read, write and speak their own language.
For example, child-centred education turns children away from the teacher both physically and metaphorically. If they are spending most of their time in groups speaking to each other, they are being denied the opportu...nity to learn new vocabulary and correct pronunciation from the one person in the class who may (but frequently may not) have a better command of the English language.
If these children never see a textbook, then they are also being denied the opportunity to look at technical vocabulary or a variety of sentence structures.
If these children are being taught using an IWB and there isnt a decent, ordinary whiteboard in the class (my experience) that can be used, then even the teacher is inhibited! IWBs are great for KS1, but atrocious for the demonstration of the kind of writing expected in the new curriculum because of lag or lack of definition. Only being able to write three words with a wireless, feckin, child-friendly, giant, banana-yellow crayon on an IWB is rather frustrating, so I just end up using Word to demonstrate, therefore the children dont get to see my joined writing as often.
