The Hobbit kost 500 miljoen!

Het nieuws dat The Hobbit wellicht in 3D uitgebracht zou worden, werd pasgeleden nog bekend. Het is nu zeker dat de film in 3D uit gaat komen. En daar komt bij dat er een astronomisch hoog prijskaartje aan hangt: een verbijsterende 500 miljoen dollar.

Daar staat wel tegenover dat er nog altijd geen groen licht is vanuit MGM, maar de reden daarvoor lijkt duidelijk. Het prijskaartje is namelijk veel te hoog voor de studio, die nog altijd met geldproblemen zit. Als men zou besluiten The Hobbit volledig te betalen, zou dat mogelijk ten gevolge hebben dat Bond 23 door een andere studio wordt geproduceerd.

Unless a third party steps in, Warner Bros most likely funds production because MGM can’t. The movement on The Hobbit doesn’t help James Bond, which is post-bankruptcy business. If Spyglass partners Roger Birnbaum and Gary Barber close the deal and turn MGM into a stripped down production entity, they will have every studio chasing 007. While Warner Bros, Fox and especially Sony Pictures Entertainment will be players, I hear Paramount stands a good chance. Birnbaum and Barber have a great relationship there as co-financiers of Star Trek, and Paramount can certainly use the films as its distribution deal with Marvel winds to a conclusion.

Het is dus goed mogelijk dat Warner Bros. de film gaat produceren en James Bond naar Paramount gaat. Het zou dus ook betekenen dat we gewoon een drieëntwintigste James Bond film krijgen, en dat The Hobbit daadwerkelijk vanaf 2012 in de bioscopen draait.
