Geen plaats voor Loki in ‘The Avengers: Age of Ultron’

Fans van Tom Hiddlestons personage Loki mogen zich verheugen op Thor: The Dark World, een film die bij ons eind oktober in de bioscoop verschijnt. Hij zal echter niet te zien zijn in The Avengers: Age of Ultron. De aandacht gaat dit keer uit naar de kwaadaardige Ultron en regisseur Joss Whedon vindt dan ook niet dat er in de sequel ruimte is voor Loki. Zijn afwezigheid is nu bevestigd door Hiddleston zelf:

[Loki's] not in it. Here’s the thing: I don’t think there’s anything else Loki could contribute to The Avengers, narratively. Joss gave me so many wonderful things to do in that first film that we’d only be trying to repeat ourselves, and probably less well in the second one.

Hiddleston meent dat zijn afwezigheid helemaal geen nadeel hoeft te zijn. De franchise blijft op deze manier vernieuwend, aldus de acteur.

When I think of all the things I loved as a child, for example, Hans Gruber wasn’t in Die Hard 2. And in Indiana Jones, by the time he moved from the Lost Ark to the Temple of Doom, there was a whole new bad guy. [Ed: even though Temple of Doom was an older bad guy, we'll allow it.] I think keeping it fresh and new is good for The Avengers even though it’s a shame for me. And let’s face it, there’s seven or eight of them as it is, and Joss is thinking about adding two more, so the screen’s gonna be a busy place. But I had the time of my life on that film. It was the most fun ever.”

Na het zien van de post-credit sequentie van The Avengers dachten we allemaal nog dat Thanos de slechterik zou gaan worden in het tweede deel. Maar toen werd ineens naar buiten gebracht dat Ultron onze Marvel helden het leven zuur zal gaan maken. Volgens Whedon is Thanos zelfs nooit een optie geweest:

We have to stay grounded. It’s part of what makes the Marvel universe click – their relationship to the real world. It’s science-fiction, and Thanos is not out of the mix, but Thanos was never meant to be the next villain. He’s always been the overlord of villainy & darkness.

Nog even terug naar Thor: The Dark World. Hieronder vind je een nieuwe afbeelding van Loki en tegelijkertijd de vooruitblik naar de nieuwe trailer. Zoals gezegd verschijnt de tweede Thor film op 31 oktober, terwijl The Avengers: Age of Ultron in 2015 in de bioscopen uitkomt.
