Issur Danielovitch Demsky is een Amerikaans acteur, die bekend is geworden onder zijn artiestennaam Kirk Douglas.

Douglas werd in New York geboren als zoon van Russisch-Joodse ouders. Alhoewel hij opgroeide in een arme buurt, slaagde hij er in een goede opleiding te voltooien en was hij actief in sport. Na studie aan St. Lawrence University kreeg hij een beurs voor de American Academy of Dramatic Arts. Net voordat hij dienstnam in de Amerikaanse marine in 1941, speelde hij in een aantal kleine Broadway producties. Na de oorlog werd hij op voorspraak van studiegenote Lauren Bacall gecast als hoofdrolspeler in The Strange Love of Martha Ivers. Sindsdien heeft hij in totaal aan meer dan 85 producties deelgenomen, waaronder kaskrakers als Gunfight at the O.K. Corral en Spartacus. Douglas is tot op hoge leeftijd actief gebleven als acteur.
Douglas was tot 1954 getrouwd met Diana Dill. Met haar kreeg hij twee zonen: acteur Michael Douglas en producent Eric Douglas. Na zijn scheiding is hij hertrouwd met Anne Buydens. Samen met haar kreeg hij nog twee zonen: producent Joel Douglas en acteur Peter Douglas. Eric Douglas overleed op 6 juli 2004 aan een overdosis drugs
In 1996 kreeg Douglas een beroerte. Als gevolg hiervan heeft hij sindsdien problemen met praten.
