    Tijdens de Spike TV Awards heeft acteur Mark Wahlberg de rest van de wereld verzekerd dat er een vervolg zal gaan komen op David O. Russells Oscargenomineerde boksfilm The Fighter. Wahlberg speelde in het origineel de hoofdrol met o.a. Christian Bale en Amy Adams.

    Tijdens zijn ontvangstspeech voor de award voor 'Guy Movie of the Year' zei Wahlberg dat er nog genoeg is te vertellen over Micky Ward en dat dit bewust is bewaard voor een tweede film. Hij blikt zelfs al vooruit op een derde film.

    “We left out Arturo Gatti fights out for a reason, because that’s for ‘Fighter 2. We’re not going to do Fighter 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8, but we’re going to do 2. We’re going to the Ward-Gatti trilogy.”

    De echte Micky Ward staat het meest bekend om zijn drie bokswedstrijden met Arturo Gatti in 2002 en 2003. Twee daarvan werden door Ring Magazine gekroond tot “Fight of the Year”.

    Co-sterren Christian Bale en Melissa Leo ontvingen beiden een Oscar voor hun rol in de film. Verder haalde de film wereldwijd meer dan 129 miljoen dollar binnen.
