Honda Pacific Coast
Also known as PC800 Production run: 1989 to 1998 800cc, 46 peak horsepower
The Pacific Coast was another one of Honda's oddball experiments that was both a commercial failure and a cult success. Essentially unchanged during its entire production run, the Pacific Coast was aimed at customers who wanted their motorcycles to be more car-like. Whether this succeeded in attracting people who wouldn't otherwise buy motorcycles is unknown, but it certainly succeeded with a certain segment of long-distance riders who appreciated reliability and utility. The PC800 could be cleaned with a garden hose. It had shaft drive for freedom from the chores of chain lubing, adjustment, and replacement. It had self-adjusting valves like the Goldwing and the CB700SC. And it had a trunk -- a single watertight lid over two large saddlebag-type compartments each big enough for a full-face helmet.
