Imagine You are stranded on an island and there is no food
for you to eat. The only thing you could eat to survive is insects. Would you
do it?
Well in many cultures it is not so uncommon for people to
consume insects. In some societies insect-eating is uncommon or even taboo. Insect-eating
is the most popular in North,
Central,
and South America;
and Africa,
Asia, Australia,
and New Zealand.
Now insect-eating is rare, but some countries want to show that eating insect can
have health benefits. So if you are hungry and you need to eat something, just
eat insects.
Hello reader, ever wondered how long a cow has to suffer
until it ends up on your plate?
First the cows are sold from a farmer, then they are
transported in huge quantities which is very bad for a cow, and because they
are so pushed against eachother when they are transported to a breed farm. Some
of them will die of fatigue. Those cows who died on the way IS the meat between
a big mac or any type of fast food meat. Those who
survive on the way to the breed farm have to survive very hard circumstances. For example
the farmer injects antibiotics for the cows so that the farmer can get maximum amount
of meat. And many horrible things that I cannot explain in words Cause Ive
seen what they do in a documentary called Earthlings.
Something typical for our food culture of today is the use of
prepackaged food. In the last 10 years, the production of these dishes
has rapidly increased.
The people who buy this are often people who dont have enough
time to prepare a home cooked meal because of their job or their
schoolwork for example.
The average consumers are parents with
full time jobs. This is an easy solution for when youre
short on time, though not a healthy one.
Prepackaged food contains a high amount of
additives that make it possible for it to stay edible for so long. It
contains lots of sodium and added sugars. It also contains a large
amount of fat and if you consume it very frequently, it could possibly
cost you years of your life according to experts, because its so bad
for your health. These prepackaged
meals are also a contributing factor to the fact that the amount of
obese people is increasing so much.
Our food culture has changed a lot in the past and is still changing. The factors that used to influence what food we ate are still there: television, friends, family, magazines However, there is a new factor that has an enormous impact on what we eat: social media. Because of social media we are more demanding on what our food should look like, how it should be served But the most important thing that social media have changed is the fact that everything needs to be healthy. Social media make us think that if something is not healthy we are ought not to eat it. The health-vibe is everything nowadays. You cannot go on Instagram without seeing the healthy lifestyle being promoted. And of course this influences a lot of people. Our food culture is very low-fat, vegan, vegetarian Which of course is not a bad thing. But if you are caught eating fast-food it is often frowned upon. Another thing that social media changed in our food culture is that it should not only taste good, but it has to look good. Why even go out and have a meal if I doesnt look pretty on your social media? This is a new problem that we did not have ten years ago. Social media has changed the way we think about food. Social media has changed our food culture.
