Actually I should be explaining what the title of our blog means, but there's a travellog that goes with it and that's for later. Meantime I'm going to introduce another record of the week and this time it's all about fun and gay and jolly. First imagine yourself feeling real shitty and down and everything sucks. Not so difficult if, like me, you already were a housewife and desperate when Teri was still doing the Lois thing.  Now what can you do ? You either grab a load of Agatha Christie novels and bury yourself under a blanket, but hey if you pick this option: who's going to do the cleaning, the cooking, the washing, pick the kids up from school, walk the dog, be the eternal wonder woman ? Exactly.
The alternative choice here is: Calypso is like so! Here's a medicine that'll have you back on your feet and even dancing in no time.
When I was sort of little I used to copy the LOVE-HATE tattoos Robert Mitchum had on his fingers in Night of the Hunter. His picture had a real sinister feel for me then (which was cool too) but since Karin's brother fabricated a copy of Mitchum's Carribean journey into hoolasound for me I can only associate him with fun, jolly and gay. The music instantly transfers you to sunny Trinidad  (I was supposed to retire there when I was all grown-up anyway) with imaginary Daiquiri and straw skirt. His use of the local lingo is extremely funny at times like for instance in Jean and Dinah, originally from the Mighty Sparrow, where he takes the side of Calypsonians and mocks yankee, dropping every 'the' and pronouncing his TH as D)
In 2004 a French filmdirector Bruno Collet put together a short animation film also titled Calypso is like so, about an actor getting too caught up in his role thus becoming his character Robert Mitchum, before freaking out and killing everybody on set. Or something like that. A podcast from dutch radio focusing on the film and also on the soundtrack (exerpts from the cd by mitchum):  http://www.concertzender.nl/programmagids.php?detail=24717&date=2007-09-23
I'd very much like to see the short film so if it hits you tube please whistle, anybody. I learn Merengue!

    hello my sweet,
I'm seriously suffering from a postvacational depression. The natural high i was on after being in your uplifting and inspirational presence seems to desinflate like a cheap balloon.Of course it doesn't help that just about everything seems to be going wrong.
First when I got back to the hotel where I work my boss completely didn't understand that I was feeling tired from all my holidaying  (and all that horrible overeating) and needed to take it easy. He swamped me with work and was  therefore most definitely up for a tubular bells award (for those of you that do not understand, please try listening to tubular bells by Mike Oldfield) Then because I really really didn't feel up to anything both my husband and youngest son got ill,and i ended up having to care of absolutely everything! Well,as if that wasn't enough ,I found out that the stupid f***ing people at the stupid f***ing hotel where we stayed in Ghent charged me with an extra 220€, just for the hell of it!
And on monday (monday!) while I'm allready super late for work,I was out of gasoline , so I have to stop by the gas station first.Hurrying like a crazy woman, mumbling all kinds of not so sweet words,I want to pay with my visa which the gas station person could not accept because I had no credit ,because the stupid f***ing hotel took all the money I had left. Whaaaaaa!!!!
Really, I need to be treated with love and respect ,doesn't anybody get that?
    Anyways,that's all for now.
Loveya, missya and hope to see you soon
    Karin

This week's record of the week:
FINALLY I managed to order Kak-Ola by the virtually unknown yet muy importante band KAK. The one-album-wonder from San Francisco roamed through the California psychedelic circuit around 1968 but added some country to the psyche-rock of their fellow bands and thus got a really unique sound which, together with their incredibly beautiful melodies, makes them eternity-proof.
