After a long weekend full of hiking I finally found the time and the legs to go out for a spin on the Merlin. I set out on my lap towards Nodebais . The trails were bone-dry and there was a stiff breeze blowing from the west once I left the cover of the forest. Legs felt surprisingly good though and I could maintain a good tempo. After finishing this lap I rode on my Ignatius lap. Over the Kouter into Heverlee forest and all the way to the arboretum before returning over Vaalbeek into Meerdael forest. Good average speed and a good ride in general.

A problem with the hot water boiler prevented me from riding a bike or do any other kind of prolonged physical activity over the weekend up to today. The faulty part was exchanged and I was able to ride out again in the late afternoon. I took the Merlin for a blast around Meerdael Forest. The sun quickly disappeared behind dark skies and the temperatures dropped fast. I let the bike go on the downhills and did not avoid the more technical singletracks or the steeper climbs. Just taking it easy to not overexert myself and I was enjoying the forest trails. Trails that were bonedry and hard. My legs felt fine and I could keep up a good pace throughout the entire ride. With 500 heightmeters it wasn't exactly flat either. Good vibes.

Still good weather and the trails looked to be perfect. Took the Merlin out for a spin , starting along the Green Bloso route. The trails were superdry and the bike was giving me comfort and speed, a combination only good full suspension bikes offer. Injected myself on the Blue Bloso route near the Zoete Waters. The climbs on this route were challenging for my legs but I managed to keep the heartrate down and push just hard enough on the pedals to avoid the pain. I decided to follow the Blue back to the Green which led me along flatter lanes back to my starting point. At the end of the ride I could feel the strength draining from my legs. Still a long way to go but with nearly 40K and 2 hours I hope I took a step towards cycling fitness.

Klik op de afbeelding om de link te volgen Went out for a hike this morning but the rain pushed me back in after an hour. So I decided to go for a ride on the Tacx Satori to burn some excess calories and frustration about my short hike. Ride went fine and of course whilst I was riding indoors the weather cleared out .

The weather was great today with temps still around 18 degrees when I rode out around 6.30Pm. The summer time was on so that left us with an hour more light in the evening. I took the Merlin out in the dry and dusty forest. There was a smell of flowers and a million little flies were flying around, reacting to the mild temperatures. The ride went fine. I took my lap towards Nodebais and then added a Meerdael Loop, going in and out of the Kouterbos. legs felt a little tired after last weekend double hiking treat but I still managed to set a PR on one of my Strava segments.

Klik op de afbeelding om de link te volgen No light left when I got home from work so I got on the Hilset for a couple of kilometers on the Tacx Satori. I did 55 squats - part of a 30-day challenge leading up to 250 squats, not sure if that is at all possible but we'll see - first and my legs felt a bit tired when I started the ride. Didn't push too hard on the pedals, opting for a high rpm rhythm instead.

Time for another outside ride. Took the Obed out for a spin along my Meerdael laps. The weather was overcast but dry except for a few drops at the end of the ride. The legs felt fine and I made a point of putting some pressure on them during the climbs. The wind was playing with me, mostly against me during the return on the bigger lap but in the end I could make it my ally when I raced from Vaalbeek to Blanden.

I started again with a slightly higher resistance - 3 on a scale of 10 - and every 5K I did a about 20 to 30 seconds on the highest resistance until I could feel the pain in my muscles. Legs felt stronger than in the beginning of the week but I still have a long way to go. had to concentrate on making perfect circles. At the end of the ride the average was a little higher than last monday.

Another beautiful and sunny day as I rode out in the late afternoon for an hours' worth of forest riding with the Litespeed Obed. Pace was fast and I concentrated to make good revolutions on the climbs. Trying to get some strength in my legs again, one climb at a time. I did a couple of my Meerdael reference laps and my average speed was good.

I started with a slightly higher resistance - 3 on a scale of 10 - and every 5K I did a couple of rounds at full resistance. This only took about 20 to 30 seconds until I could feel the pain in my muscles. I have lost a lot of my strenght the last couple of years, focussing on high revs and supple riding. But I will try to make my legs stronger again, with cycling and also doing some more squats and lunges during my Core and Pilates workouts.

Today the weather forecast called for sun and mild temperatures so in the lat afternoon I took the Obed out for a spin in Meerdael Forest. This was my first ride outside of the year and I thoroughly enjoyed the feeling of the mild breeze. Taking in the smells of the forest with the first flowers adding to the scent. I stayed inside the forest and rode some small loops, getting used to a bike that moved around -as opposed to the static feeling of a bike on the rollers.

Klik op de afbeelding om de link te volgen Rain and generally unpleasant weather outside so I was glad I could stay indoors for a spin on the Hilset on the Tacx Satori. Reading a crime story by Jo Claes and listening to my favorites on Spotify I was happily spinning away. Klik op de afbeelding om de link te volgen Found some time for a bike ride this evening. Bad weather outside, wind rain and temperatures a very mild 10 degrees C. Indoors on the Tacx Satori I went for 30K . Keeping an even pace throughout the ride, upping the resistance from 2 to 3 during a couple of kilometers and then dropping it again for tha last 5K. Legs felt rested because I hadn't done serious hiking for the last couple of days - the weekend saw me cover almost 50K - and this evening ride further relaxed my muscles whilst upping the heartrate to an agree-able and comfortable 115 bpm average with a 130bpm peak.

Klik op de afbeelding om de link te volgen Time for a ride on the Tacx Satori. It had been a while since I cycled and my legs were strong from a lot of hiking. Getting on the bike allows me to relax my legs and I could maintain a good pace throughout the ride. My heartrate stayed well into the safe regions. If the weather holds I might consider taking a bike ride outside this weekend.
