Labour announce London mayor candidate selection plan

The Labour Party has announced details of how it will choose its next candidate for London Mayor.

Any Londoner who supports the party will be able to take part, by signing up and paying £3. They will then vote for their preferred candidate in a primary contest.

But candidates David Lammy, Christian Wolmar and Diane Abbott all say they are unhappy with the proposed timetable.

And Times columnist Matthew Parris explains why he is interested to see how the primary contest might work.
